The Guess Who

The Guess Who are a Canadian rock band from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Initially gaining recognition in Canada, the group also found international success from the late 1960s through the mid-1970s with numerous hit singles, including “No Time“, “American Woman“, “These Eyes” and “Share the Land“. Several former members of The Guess Who, notably Burton Cummings and Randy Bachman (of Bachman–Turner Overdrive), have found considerable success outside the band.

The band was inducted into The Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1987.[1] In 2002, Randy Bachman, Burton Cummings, Garry Peterson, Donnie McDougall and Bill Wallace received the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement, Canada’s highest honour in the performing arts, for The Guess Who’s contribution to popular music in Canada.[2]

The NCAAP & all these butt hurt Black academic mofos really are revealing themselves with this mess. They’ll go after the Obamas, Alicia Keys, & other light-skinned brothers & sisters in the Black community & hold them to the fire but will give an immediate pass to a White woman who lied about her background while draped in both Blackface & hair extensions?!! Felicia are you f’ing serious? Are the Wayans Bros. using this for a sequel to “White Chicks”? WTF!!

Florida Walmart calls police on black customers for shopping too slow
    June 13, 2015 at 11:10 AM

A Walmart in Pensacola Florida in under fire after video surfaced of the police being called on some shoppers who were doing nothing wrong.

When the police showed up, they became aggressive with the shoppers, who were African-American, and asked them to leave. When the group tried to finish up their shopping before they got out, the police thought they were taking too long to leave and arrested one of them.

What’s more, this incident comes on the heels of another recent Walmart video, this one involving two white women.

In the video, two women came to blows, brawling in the aisle of a Walmart as one woman’s 6-year-old son gets involved and begins throwing shampoo. In stark contrast to the Florida shoppers, these women were not arrested and were in fact gone by the time police arrived. Their descriptions were not taken down by security, either.

Video shows Arkansas cops slamming cooperative blind, black man to the ground
    12 JUN 2015 AT 10:12 ET

A legally blind Little Rock, Arkansas man who can be seen on video complying with police officers is asking why the officers roughly threw him to the ground in a June 1 incident, resulting in a back injury, local station Fox 16 reports.

In a police report obtained by Fox 16, one of the officers claims that Eric Wilson “pulled away violently causing me to lose grip,” and he was “afraid that Wilson would strike myself or my partner with the handcuff.”

But video of the incident shows nothing of the sort.

Wilson, who told reporters he can only see shadows, can be seen walking toward the two police officers when they summon him. When they tell him to take his hands out of his pockets, he does so. The video shows Wilson standing quietly with his hands behind his back as the officer goes to handcuff him. The officer then suddenly pushes Wilson to the ground.

“When they tell him to ‘come over here,’ he walked towards them,” Wilson’s attorney Reggie Koch told Fox 16. “When they tell him ‘take your hands out of your pockets,’ he takes his hands out of his pockets. What more do they want?”

The incident occurred at about 4 p.m. after Wilson had gotten off work at Lighthouse for the Blind. He missed his bus and began to walk home. Police were called by someone who reported a man “fitting Wilson’s description” who was either running away or chasing someone, and who looked afraid, the station reports.

Police reported seeing a black handle sticking out of Wilson’s pocket. That turned out to be a clock designed to read the time for blind people.

Kurdish-Syrian force advances on key border town held by Islamic State

BEIRUT — A Kurdish-Syrian force is advancing toward one of the Islamic State’s most strategically vital possessions, capturing territory in the group’s landmark province of Raqqa and threatening to inflict what could be the most significant defeat yet for the militants.

The Kurdish-led force, backed by U.S. airstrikes, closed in from the south, east and west on Saturday on the Syrian-Turkish border town of Tal Abiyad, a key Islamic State stronghold on which the militants rely for trade with the outside world and also the flow of foreign fighters who sustain their strength on the battlefield.

“No longer can the Islamic State claim control of an entire province in either Syria or Iraq.”

Yeah the news is bad from time to time but ISIL is starting to get squeezed.

    Posted by Zandar
For now, fast track trade pact authority for President Obama is off the table as House Democrats folded and Republicans didn’t have the votes

Hours after President Obama made a dramatic, personal appeal for support, House Democrats on Friday thwarted his push to expand trade negotiating power — and quite likely his chance to secure a legacy-defining accord spanning the Pacific Ocean.

In a remarkable blow to a president they have backed so resolutely, House Democrats voted to end assistance to workers displaced by global trade, a program their party created and has supported for four decades. That move effectively scuttled legislation granting the president trade promotion authority — the power to negotiate trade deals that cannot be amended or filibustered by Congress.

“We want a better deal for America’s workers,” said Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the House minority leader, who has guided the president’s agenda for two terms and was personally lobbied by Mr. Obama until the last minute.

The vote that prevented the president from obtaining trade promotional authority now imperils the more sweeping Trans-Pacific Partnership, a proposed trade agreement with 11 other nations along the Pacific Ocean that affects 40 percent of the global economy on goods ranging from running shoes to computers.

“They have taken their own child hostage,” said Representative Charlie Dent, Republican of Pennsylvania, adding, “Does it hurt the president? Of course it hurts the president, but it hurts America more.”

The Democratic revolt left Republican leaders trying to summon support from their own party for trade adjustment assistance, a program they have long derided as a waste of money and a concession to organized labor. Eighty-six Republicans voted for the program, more than double the 40 Democrats who supported it. But the trade adjustment assistance bill failed when 303 voted against it.

Republican leaders then passed, in a 219-to-211 vote, a stand-alone bill that would grant the president the trade negotiating authority he sought. But that measure cannot go to the president for his signature because the Senate version of the legislative package combined both trade adjustment and trade promotion.

I want to make another point about TPP. An article by Ron Brownstein in the National Journal pointed out that Democrats are out of step with the times and their own constituents. The kind of manufacturing we see today in America is more on a high tech level. The day of the blue collar manufacturing job with no skills or degree is never coming back. Also the point about NAFTA being mainly responsible for certain manufacturing leaving is not true. Studies have shown that because of globalization those jobs would have gone away NAFTA or no NAFTA. Actually NAFTA helped keep some of those jobs in America because they only moved apportion of operations to countries in a back yard (Mexico). Now NAFTA wasn’t the best deal but it was not the monster that the emos like to make it out to be.

The TPP will increase exports and move more people to high level manufacturing jobs that pay higher wages. We will also gain greater connections and influence in these fast growing countries. The Democrats fail to understand that their base is no longer white blue collar workers. The party is more white collar and ethnically diverse with a large presence in urban centers that depend heavily on trade. These anti-TPP democrats need to realize that some of these unions like the AFL-CIO are useless and out of date. The emos may say that rank and file democratic voters don’t support trade deals like TPP, but polls have showed that they actually do. Like others have pointed out a majority of blue collar whites vote for the GOP not the Democratic party.

Former Rikers Island inmate killed himself days before facing new charges in court
BY Ben Kochman , Shayna Jacobs , Bill Hutchinson
    NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
    Thursday, June 11, 2015, 2:30 AM

A Bronx man who spent three nightmarish years as a teen in Rikers Island awaiting trial killed himself just days before he was due back in court to face new charges his lawyer blasted as “baseless.”

Kalief Browder, who hanged himself with an air-conditioning cord on Saturday, suffered flashbacks from his Rikers experiences when busted in April for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, according to his brother. “It definitely brought back some bad memories,” Kamal Browder told the Daily News.

A judge rejected a request from his attorney, Paul Prestia, to dismiss the charges but Bronx prosecutors said they would toss the case once they received a death certificate. “The last time Mr. Browder had a case in Bronx County, it took them three years to dismiss the charges, and that’s why he’s no longer with us,” an angry Prestia said at the hearing.

Browder and his brother, Kamal, 23, were arrested after cops broke up an April 20 fight they were involved in on Prospect Ave. near their Bronx home.

Kamal explained he had been mugged earlier that evening and his brother agreed to help confront the robber. When they caught up to the mugger, a yelling match ensued causing the culprit’s mom to come out of her house and shoo them away.

But as the Browder brothers backed off they were followed by friends of the man they accused, including one who incensed Kalief by slapping Kamal.

“He was defending me,” Kamal said of his brother.

He said he was trying to get Kalief to walk away about 9:30 p.m. when cops rolled up.

“I was trying to hug my brother, tell him, ‘Come on, ‘Come on’ when cops pushed me and my brother away and arrested us,” Kamal told The News.

A criminal complaint says the brothers ignored orders to move along. “They wrapped their arms around each other tightly, and they further refused to let go of each other,” the complaint reads.
The brothers, according to the complaint, “flailed their arms and twisted their bodies, refusing to be handcuffed.”

Officers took the pair to Central Booking, where they were held for the night and released the next morning on their own recognizance.

“We talked about it, talked about how we got locked up for no reason,” said Kamal, who appeared at Wednesday’s court hearing.

Prestia noted the April arrest was “eerily similar” to one in 2010 that led to a then 16-year-old Kalief being locked up for three years at Rikers awaiting trial on robbery charges.

“They were baseless charges,” the lawyer said of the recent arrest. “They will never prove this case, they’ll never try this case, they’ll never win this case.”

Prestia said Kalief’s torturous ordeal at Rikers is what drove him to suicide. But his recent arrest “underscores their incompetence,” he said of Bronx prosecutors.

      — Explosives experts detonated an explosive device found under a police vehicle, police said in a tweet. No one was injured. Officers are also investigating a suspicious package at a police substation.

[Previous story, posted at 6:51 a.m. ET]
(CNN) — Attackers opened fire on Dallas police headquarters early Saturday, then an armored van parked in front of the building drove off and rammed a squad car, authorities said.

Police returned fire, and the van fled with the suspects.

After the attack, police found suspicious bags near the headquarters. At least one contained explosives, prompting evacuations from areas around the police headquarters.

As an explosives robot approached one of them, it blew up, Maj. Max Geron tweeted. No one was injured.

Authorities believe up to four people may have opened fire from various locations with automatic weapons, including from the van, said Police Chief David Brown.

It was 2012, and Rachel Dolezal had a warning for her adopted brother as she prepared for a new life in Spokane, Washington.

“She just told me, ‘Over here, I’m going to be considered black, and I have a black father. Don’t blow my cover,’” Ezra Dolezal, 22, told BuzzFeed News in an interview.

Rachel also told him to tell people that he and her other adopted brother were her “blood brothers,” he said.

His sister did not offer “any logical explanation” for why she was changing her identity, and Ezra never confronted her about it. But it was the next stage after growing apart from her parents, Ruthanne and Larry Dolezal, and leaving their home in Montana.

“She wanted to make a new life for herself but she took it to the ultimate extreme,” Ezra said. “Not only did she move out to Spokane, but she created a whole new identity for herself.”
