Bree Newsome: America, Tear Down THIS Confederate Flag!

CONTEXT & AMERICA’S HYPOCRISY

Ronald Reagan’s Mantra: “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down THIS WALL!

America’s got a nerve, doesn’t it? Telling other countries to tear down their walls and allow freedom to reign, while BUILDING walls of discrimination, inequality, imposing racial stereotypes of Black Americans being ‘Welfare Queens,’drug dealers, criminals. Yes, we got your Reaganomic, MOFOS!

Bree Newsome’s Mantra : AMERICA, TEAR DOWN THIS CONFEDERATE FLAG!

Grace in ACTION

HELL YEAH! Bree’s 3 Chics SHERO. Thanks, SG2.

According to a statement from the activists they took down the flag because:

“We could not sit by and watch the victims of the Charleston Massacre be laid to rest while the inspiration for their deaths continue to fly above their caskets.”

The Confederate flag was born out of a government defending the enslavement of Black people and resurrected as an emblem for whites violently opposing racial integration. Any government that recognizes the flag is declaring that it cherishes a history of racial terror.

Drop any charges against Bree Newsome, the courageous organizer arrested for taking down the Confederate flag at South Carolina capitol

    This from Tim Wise:

“Historical Memory and he Implicit White Supremacy of American Conservatism”

    http://www.timwise.org/2015/06/historical-memory-and-the-implicit-white-supremacy-of-american-conservatism/

    Excerpts:

”Those who defend the flag consider the black experience irrelevant, a trifle, hardly worthy of their concern. Who cares if the flag represented a government that sought to consign them to permanent servitude? Who cares if segregationists used that flag as a blatant symbol of racist defiance during the civil rights movement? Remembering the courageous heroics of one’s great-great-great-grandpappy Cooter by waving that flag or seeing it on public property is more important than black people’s lived experience of it. That such dismissiveness is intrinsically racist should be obvious.

……….“By their statements, the modern American right shows itself not only dismissive of racism’s continuing presence in the contemporary period, but even its central role in the nation’s history. They demonstrate their ignorance, and more, their nonchalance at the pain and suffering inflicted upon black and brown peoples so as to make possible this country they love so much. Indebted though they are to those peoples of color, without whose forced labor and stolen land they would still be among Europe’s most spectacular failures, white conservatives continue to believe, against all evidence to the contrary, that with this week’s Supreme Court rulings they are among the nation’s greatest historical victims.

The delusion would be laughable were its consequences not so dangerous. People such as this cannot be allowed to wield any power, anywhere, ever again.”

I wish Rosa Parks were alive to have witnessed Bree’s action.

Inanimate/symboli, racist objects are worth more than BLACK LIVES

Another North Carolina activist, James Tyson, climbed over the four-foot wrought-iron fence and held the pole to make sure Newsome didn’t fall, Lewis said. He was arrested alongside Newsome as a group of onlookers cheered off camera.

The 30-year-olds were charged with defacing a monument on state Capitol grounds, a misdemeanor that can bring up to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine, a state Department of Public Safety spokeswoman said

BULLSHIT! Take that bitch down & keep it down. Fucking cowards.

Two state senators who support removing the flag, Democrat Marlon Kimpson of Charleston and Republican Shane Massey of Edgefield, cautioned that illegal actions could hurt efforts to bring it down from its post of 15 years. Massey said the stunt would make “this discussion much more difficult.”

“There are 2 ways the Confederate Flag can be removed forever. Citizens please engage legally or we lose!” Kimpson said on Twitter.

Love it. That would make a great tweet!

“I would have played some music.”

Wouldn’t it be great if someone wrote lyrics for Bree and used the melody from “Sisters Are Doing It Themselves” ?

Every flap of a Confederate flag flying in the wind is like the lash of the master’s /overseer’s whip.

    I so admire Bree!

I admire and honor Bree Newsome in the same way as I do when someone offers first aid to someone. She knew the pain and horror the families of the 9 Charleston church members were experiencing by seeing the flag that inspired the murderer to kill their loved ones.

Bree Newsome is like the Good Samaritan. She provided a balm to the loved ones who had been horrifically robbed of their loved ones and been beaten further down by the flying of that flag of hate and evil deeds that motivated the evil terrorist.

Unlike Good Samaritan Bree Newsome, Gov. Nikki Haley did not offer aid to the suffering loved ones. (Haley weakly claimed she couldn’t even though see knew the State Reps had voted to take it down.)

Unlike Good Samaritan Bree Newsome the State Senators did not offer aid to the suffering loved ones. They chose to wait until this Monday to vote when they could have called themselves together quickly and voted to take it down after the Representatives had voted.

I congratulate Bree for her compassion for the loved ones of the nine and her willingness to be arrested for doing a good deed, for saying by her actions that a symbol for hate that inspired the murderer should not be flying as the loved ones bury their family members and are in the midst of their deep grief.
