BLACK LIVES MATTER is not just something on a T-Shirt…and, if you want Black Votes – Come Correct With A REAL Answer

ICYMI….

Black Lives Matter Protestors came to NetRoots Nation…and here’s a response from someone running for the Democratic Party nomination

Black people are the base of the Democratic Party.

If you can’t answer questions that are of interest to us, you need to take your ass on home.

The Bernie-stans were in particular vicious on Twitter towards Elon James White (This Week in Blackness).
Elon is no Black Panther.
He’s not even a Black Panther-wannabe.

He is, however, out of PHUCKS-TO-GIVE.

Elon James White ‏@elonjames 5m5 minutes ago

Elon James White retweeted John Chang

If calling out bullshit makes White Progressives Republicans, then how progressive were there really?

Elon James White added,

John Chang @wallachang

@elonjames You’re going to drive White Progressives to the Republican Party and your causes will lose.

https://twitter.com/rowenick/status/622522371249827840

One said that Elon should resign…
https://twitter.com/elonjames/status/622597680951209984

If you can’t handle the logical questions of Elon James White…
you need to sit down and STFU.

And, the entire, ‘ folks just need jobs’ approach by Bernie is tireseome.

How would a job have helped Tamir Rice?
How would a job have helped Trayvon Martin?

Sandra Bland was in Texas because she had just landed her DREAM JOB.

The PROBLEM, is the attack on Black people by the POLICE.

And, it’s a valid problem.

I’ve said several times….

That Pookey and Ray-Ray don’t believe in law enforcement should not bother you.

That I, and countless other college and higher degreed Blacks believe in law enforcement on the same level as Pookey and Ray-Ray IS the problem.

If it’s all about ‘just having a job’,

then take a look at this video from Mr. Bougie himself, Lawrence Otis Graham, on the dresscode and other rules that he has imposed on his children.

Between him and his wife, they have FOUR Harvard Degrees.

He ends his video:

” I just want to keep them ALIVE.”

Show me where a WHITE couple with FOUR Harvard degrees, has EVER expressed anything like this.

I believed that Trayvon was an 8.5 quake on the San Andreas fault for Black parents….I stand by that.

“All Lives Matter” as a retort to “Black Lives Matter” is the same as the cops wearing t-shirts saying “I Can Breath” as a retort to the “I Can’t Breath” t-shirts. Both responses come from the same place. A place of white privilege and racist hate. One must question the mentality that requires the creation of the “All Lives Matter” slogan. It is an example of white folks attempting to hijack a serious movement by African-Americans and make a joke of it, minimize it. And for what purpose? What about Black people protesting against police brutality offends them so much that they felt a need to create their own retort? I can understand the defensiveness of the cops, but what are these leftists defending? Sanders has been race baiting since the start of his candidacy. It is clear to me that Sanders is a White supremacist and his candidacy attracts the white folks on the left who were/are not “ready” for a Black president (I am not naïve enough to think all this bullshit is a coincidence). The fact that Sanders chose to run against PBO, not the GOP tells me where he and his supporters are coming from. I don’t give a shit about what he may or may not have done 50 years ago (who knows what his motives were for marching at that time, and a person’s views can evolve over 50 years). There are a lot of folks who had second thoughts about civil rights for Black folks when Black people started to show themselves as the equal (and often times the superior) to his or her white counterparts.

Any Black person whose house, car or education is better than that of a white “friend” knows what I am talking about (you are accepted so long as you stay in your “place”, but once they see you as a threat, all bets are off). The Dems who covet the vote of whites who left the party in protest of civil rights embrace the “All Lives Matter” slogan because it is a way of demonstrating that they don’t have to “kowtow” to the concerns of Black voters. If you don’t have the guts to use the “Black Lives Matter” slogan, you definitely won’t fight hard for issues important to the AA community. This is the signal these candidates are sending to the “Reagan Democrats”. They and their supporters get really mad when Black folks point out the game being played.

    Just saw this.

We want a nation where young black men and women can live without fear of being falsely arrested, beaten or killed. #BlackLivesMatter— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) July 19, 2015

This is the earlier one that he might have modified:

Sandra Bland, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray and too many others.— Bernie Sanders (@BernieSanders) July 19, 2015

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

Looks as if he is starting to listen, absorb, and support BlackLivesMatter. Hope so.

      • Liza says:

Here’s what is interesting. Bernie either sees the opportunity that is being handed to him on a silver plate, or he reacts defensively, or he does nothing. Those are his three choices. O’Malley doesn’t matter for obvious reasons. And Hillary didn’t show up.

    • eliihass says:

I’ve never thought of Bernie Sanders as some unfeeling racist. Like I’ve said before, I think he’s what he’s always been: a Maine politician who’s never tackled the specific issues lived by a black electorate. And who frankly mightn’t care much on a very personal level about us, but unlike other politicians we know, isn’t so desperate to inhabit the White House, he’s willing to patronize and humor us for a moment – until he makes it into the White House.

His supporters like those of other politicians, come with their own specific agenda and perspective that not necessarily speak to or perfectly align with his. In much the same way Trump now plays hero to the racists long nurtured and courted by many a GOP politician and a few Dem ones who resort to courting the racist demographic when they hit a rough patch and need extra votes to push them over.

It’s pretty easy to focus our rage on a politician who for whatever reason has now been singled out when he is no different form all the others. But it’s easy to see how a politician like Sanders doesn’t see our issues as high priority especially when our very own black representatives in Congress and the DNC hierarchy – besides a few moments of opportunistic grandstanding, if even that – have never really made it and us a priority.

Bernie Sanders is probably wondering why for instance he’s never heard a peep from his Senate colleague Cory Booker on this Black lives Matter movement…he’s probably scratching his head wondering how come not any high-profile black politicians have deemed it that important to speak out about it…

Sometimes they’ll take their lead from us and ours. They’ll respond based upon how we and those who look like us in their sphere, respond to us and our issues…

      • Liza says:

Also, Bernie Sanders has been speaking to large crowds that like what he is saying. They’ve cheered him on, so he hasn’t much incentive to change his stump speech. And I definitely understand the need to be cautious because the corporate media are always ready for that “gotcha” moment when they can take someone down, especially someone like Bernie Sanders.

Hopefully, Bernie will see the golden opportunity. And the Democratic leadership will either feel the rising tide within their own ranks or they will really blow this election. But as God as my witness, I do not see how they can be deaf, dumb, and blind to what is happening in this country right now. Yet, they wanted a clear, unhindered path for Hillary straight to the nomination, so at least Bernie should get credit for stopping that from happening. What he does is actually important because even if he loses the nomination, he can still be the conduit through which the anointed one, Hillary, is forced to move left of center and is forced to face the nation’s crises as well as specific demands put forth by black voters via #BlackLivesMatter and other organizations.

@elonjames Default white progressive stance is predicated on feeling “educated.” When you tell them they’re ignorant, they go off the rails

    • eliihass says:

This pretty much sums it up. I actually think it’s much worse than many let on.

The truth is most white people hold these views about us. I’m as unimpressed with those calling out Bernie Sanders as much as I am with Bernie Sanders and his supporters.

In the end it’s all about manipulation. It’s about holding on to just enough black votes to get whatever white candidate they’ve decided they want in.

There isn’t any part of this that has much to do with actually respecting or caring about us.

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

      Powerful comment!

    • eliihass says:

This has been so jarring. This has to be repeated as often as possible until every single person sees just how wrong this is.

Shooter walks into theater and kills. He’s taken in alive and without a scratch to his body.
White ‘survivalist’ shoots and kills 2 police officers, is found and taken in alive 2 months later.

Black kid is murdered in cold-blood for not ‘obeying’ a cop about jay-walking, a story that soon turns into a trumped up ‘charge’ that kid shop-lifted some cigarillos.

Black man is stopped for driving an old model Mercedes in South Carolina. Police shoot him in the back as he runs away scared of precisely what ended up happening to him. Nobody offers cpr. Dead black man is instead handcuffed.

Pregnant black woman gets into a parking lot tiff with white woman. White woman calls cops. Cops ‘interview’ white woman without ever asking her name. Pregnant black woman ends up thrown to the ground, rough-handled, handcuffed and arrested.

      The stories are endless.

Interesting, Ruth Marcus didn’t go on the Sunday talk shows and call those POTUS & FLOTUS hecklers ‘BIZZARE’ wonder why?

    • eliihass says:

No surprise there. Ruth Marcus is a hateful, narrow-minded, die-hard Zionist.

She’s never cared any for the Obamas. She’ll talk up Laura Bush and the British royals, but she’s always been exceptionally hostile to the Obamas who she’s sees as unworthy.

And as I’ve always said, I pretty much take my cues about all of these folks based on their reaction to the Obamas. Especially how they respond to the black FLOTUS who’s refused to take on affectations and reinvent herself in the image of their heralded white first ladies.

If they’ll do it to our black FLOTUS without hesitation, they’ll demean and dismiss the rest of us even easier. We mean nothing to these folks.

They see us and our issues as inconvenient to their agenda. We annoy them when we don’t play along. When we insist on not only been seen and heard, but respected and our lives valued. But they mostly lack any humanity. Our lives mean very little to them even as they insist they aren’t racist and unfeeling – that they do have dear black friends and colleagues. Including the ones seated with them on the roundtable panel when they talk their rubbish.

I HEAR YOU; I HEAR & FEEL YOUR PAIN., THE KILLING OF YOUR LOVED ONES, YOUR FEAR AND ANGER OF COPS KILLING BLACK BOYS, MEN, & WOMEN.

They couldn’t even stop. pause long enough and show some REAL COMPASSION, to ACKNOWLEDGE REAL PAIN & ANGUISH & VALIDATE.

Nope, they had to go on about jobs, economy, generalizing, and further marginalizing Democratic base

    • Liza says:

I’m almost sure that it was Eleanor Roosevelt who famously said that to be in politics you must have skin like the hide of a rhinoceros. I hope that is true of Bernie Sanders and I hope that he is able to hear what black folks are trying to tell him. Of the three candidates so far, he seems to be the most empathic. A savvy candidate would see that the 2016 election is not going to happen without the Democrats being forced to take a stand which they are obviously trying to avoid.

It will be interesting to see what Amy Goodman does with this tomorrow. She likes Bernie Sanders but she is also a warrior in the fight against police brutality.

You really have to wonder what these people (Democrats) are afraid of all the time. President Obama just waded into the mass incarceration problem and he’s doing just fine. The Democrats might be surprised at the support they would have, but they’ll never know if they keep trying to play it safe.

      • Ametia says:

One of Sanders’ main problem is his supporters too. They don’t seem to want to listen , hear or validate either. Drudging up his old Civil Rights record and invoking MLK every few sentences, is not listening to the real issue at hand, SYSTEMATIC RACISM & KILLING OF BLACKS BY COPS

PBO has created a blue print for PROGRESSIVE /PRAGMATIC, 21ST CENTURY POLITICS. but it seems as though this is not good enough for some white folks.

I can only summise it is because he is BLACK. Sanders is saying the same things PBO is saying, yet they have repeatedly whined and moaned that he’s not progressive enough, not PURE enough. They are COWARDS.

      • Liza says:

Yeah, white liberals do tend to cut off their nose to spite their face. They seem to be bound by this need to ignore political realities and blame the person in office for failing to deliver ALL they wanted WHEN they wanted. It gets old, really old. Then they move on and adore the next candidate until that person, if elected, inevitably fails. I don’t think they will ever give PBO credit for what he has been able to accomplish in a hostile environment, but they will cheer Bernie for saying many of the same things that candidate Obama has already said, and they will cheer as though it’s all new. But what if Bernie were elected and failed to deliver a single payer health care system? Or what if he failed to raise taxes on the wealthy? I think they would move on to the next darling, probably Elizabeth Warren. And they won’t see the urgency of their favorite candidate needing to address police brutality against innocent black people because they aren’t black.

      • Ametia says:

        Yes; wash, rinse, REPEAT!

#BlackLivesMatter And Impotent Rage, Netroots Nation Edition
July 18, 2015 by Oliver Willis

On Saturday at Netroots Nation, “black lives matter” protesters effectively took over the stage during a question and answer session with Martin O’Malley, and shouted throughout another session with Bernie Sanders. O’Malley spoke about raising the minimum wage and ending the industrial priso complex. Sanders talked about wealth inequality and immigration reform.

The protestors likely didn’t hear any of this over the sounds of their own egos.

There is a fine and upstanding tradition in America of protest. At its most effective, protest is a great tool towards changing public attitudes about key issues (gender, race, sexual orientation, economic policies) and has actually been able to pass laws producing amazing change.

At its worst, protest can simply be an exercise in vanity, an almost childish temper tantrum with no goal or policy set in mind beyond the venal egos of the protesters.

This event appears to be the latter.

I’m sure Hillary Clinton is glad she skipped this sad show.

    http://oliverwillis.com/2015/07/18/blacklivesmatter-and-impotent-rage-netroots-nation-edition/

    • rikyrah says:

But, O’Malley and Sanders couldn’t even handle this.

They don’t even have a remotely ready response to this.

I’m glad they came and protested.

Black people are the base of the Democratic Party.
If you don’t have a credible answer or even an honest recognition of the problem…
why are you running in the Democratic Party?

      • Ametia says:

ALL.OF.THIS. They couldn’t or wouldn’t just VALIDATE the fear, anger, and TRUTH, the FACTS that our black men and women are being KILLED by the police for being BLACK.

    • Ametia says:

100% supporting those protesters! Neither Sanders or O’Malley CAME CORRECT.

As for Hillary, I’m sure she is glad she didn’t attend. She’s not ready to tackle BLACKLIVESMATTER either. None of these fools are ready to become POTUS.
