    There have been quite a few articles lately that perhaps King Tut was buried in an antechamber of Queen Neferti’s tomb. An archeologist may soon be allowed to use radar on one of the walls of King Tut’s tomb where slight vertical cracks exist.

    Cruz sternly rebuked by GOP

    The Texas senator’s internal criticism of his leadership is what animates his presidential campaign, but his colleagues appear to be no longer listening.

    Ted Cruz can’t even get a protest vote in the Senate anymore.

    On Monday night, Cruz’s colleagues ignored his attempt to disrupt Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s efforts to fund the government without attacking Planned Parenthood. In an unusual rebuke, even fellow Republicans denied him a “sufficient second” that would have allowed him a roll call vote.

    Then, his Republican colleagues loudly bellowed “no” when Cruz sought a voice vote, a second repudiation that showed how little support Cruz has: Just one other GOP senator — Utah’s Mike Lee — joined with Cruz as he was overruled by McConnell and his deputies.

    It was the second time that Cruz had been denied a procedural courtesy that’s routinely granted to senators in both parties. The first came after he called McConnell a liar this summer.

    Cruz was incredulous on Monday, calling it an “unprecedented procedural trick.”

    “What does denying a second mean? Denying a recorded vote. Why is that important?” Cruz said. “When you are breaking the commitment you’ve made to the men and women who elected you, the most painful thing in the world is accountability.”

    Had Flotus gone Hollywood? Not quite. But her red-carpet-worthy turnout, evocative of Beyoncé at the top of her form, seemed especially well timed, inciting, predictably, an outpouring of mostly upbeat social commentary that eclipsed the event and all but engulfed the web.

    Her shrewdly calibrated allure, which easily rivaled that of any first lady in recent memory, suggests that Mrs. Obama has embraced an enviable position at the intersection of pop culture and politics — just because she can.

      FLOTUS’ heightened magnificence at that State dinner, has them all hot and bothered and shook up… they were so sure they’d shut her down…

      They’re doubling down once again, rebooting their stealth and not so stealth campaigns and attempts at defining her to fit the dubious narratives – complete with negative stereotypes and dog whistles – that they wish to push about her…

      They thought they’d succeeded after years of sustained attacks designed to discredit and destroy her…to break her, and more importantly, to make her disappear, still she rises…no, she soars..

      Seriously, the jealousy, the spite from some quarters these past few days…

    Dems rise against Obama’s financial adviser regs
    By Kevin Cirilli – 09/24/15 04:53 PM EDT

    Ninety-six House Democrats have signed onto a letter calling for President Obama to make significant changes to his regulatory proposal for financial advisers, writing that they’re concerned the current pitch would limit low- and middle-income Americans’ access to financial advice.

    …Obama wants to implement a “fiduciary standard” that would increase disclosure requirements for financial advisers. He says it’s needed to help consumers understand that their financial advisers might be earning a profit from Wall Street institutions by selling them financial advice packages.

    But the industry argues that the proposal is not needed given the
    bevy of regulations that already exist. And they argue that the
    regulations would serve as a disincentive for financial advice firms to take on low-income clients, whose financial planning needs are less lucrative than wealthy Americans.

    The large contingency of Democratic opposition on a financial services issue is rare, especially given that Obama and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) announced the proposal in March at a high-profile event at AARP’s D.C. headquarters.

    Notably, House Minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) and House Financial Services Committee ranking member Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) did not sign the letter.

    Congratulations to Coates.

    It’s fair to say that both Ta-Nehisi Coates and Lin-Manuel Miranda were already having a pretty impressive 2015. Coates, a journalist lauded for his insights into race, politics and culture, launched his memoir, “Between the World and Me,” straight to the bestseller lists. Miranda, already a Tony-winning composer, wrote and stars in the season’s hottest ticket on Broadway, the genre-crossing musical “Hamilton.”

    Their year just got better. Coates and Miranda are among the 24 people awarded MacArthur Foundation fellowships on Tuesday. The so-called genius grants are an annual vote of confidence given to some of America’s best and brightest scientists, writers, artists, academics and entrepreneurs. And the big check that comes with the fellowship doesn’t hurt, either…

    “I take it as a mandate to, excuse my French, go out and kick [butt],” Coates said. “I’m supposed to go out and do something beautiful, something remarkable and great. That’s the meaning of the award, for me. They say, ‘We expect big things from you.’ I expect the same from myself.”…

    He is working on his next book but declined to share any details.

    “For writers, the hardest thing in the world is space and time to write,” he said. “Hopefully, [the grant] will give me that.”…
