    Yesterday Sen. Ted Cruz introduced his tax plan. Let’s let the Tax Foundation describe it:

    This plan would institute a flat 10 percent tax rate on all varieties of individual income, with a large standard deduction and personal exemption….The plan would replace the corporate income tax and all payroll taxes with a broad-based “Business Transfer Tax,” or value-added tax (VAT), with few exemptions.

    I just want to make a quick point about this: if it ever became a serious proposal, AARP would go ballistic. Wonks might support a switch from an income tax to a VAT, but old people decidedly don’t. Here’s why.

    Businesses would pay Cruz’s VAT and then pass along the cost to consumers. In practice, you can think of it like a sales tax. If it’s been around forever, everything is fine. But if you replace existing income and payroll taxes with a VAT, the elderly get screwed

    Prior to last night’s Republican debate in Boulder, Colorado, I challenged John Kasich and Jeb Bush to have the courage of their “convictions” and to call out the other candidates for their constant dependency on bullshit and fantasy. When the debate began, it seemed as though Kasich, at least, had read my advice because he came out guns blazing, talking about how the party was on the verge of nominating someone who is manifestly incapable of doing the job. And his argument was well-presented and reality-based.

    KASICH: To talk [as Ben Carson does] about we’re just gonna have a 10 percent tithe and that’s how we’re gonna fund the government? And we’re going to just fix everything with waste, fraud, and abuse? Or that we’re just going to be great? Or we’re going to ship 10 million Americans—or 10 million people out of this country, leaving their children here in this country and dividing families?

    Folks, we’ve got to wake up. We cannot elect somebody that doesn’t know how to do the job. You have got to pick somebody who has experience, somebody that has the know-how, the discipline.

    Of course, Trump immediately responded with a sharp reminder that Kasich worked for Lehman Brothers at the time that that firm’s collapse nearly brought us a second Great Depression. It’s doubtful that Kasich got the better of the exchange, but I do think that Kasich was speaking for a lot of people and I guess that his message probably resonated with much of the Establishment. In any case, someone needed to say it.

    Republican Debate: Post-Policy Trumps Post-Truth

    As a way to highlight the differences between Republican establishment and insurgent candidates, I have sometimes referred to the former as post-truth and the latter as post-policy.

    As a reminder, here’s how David Roberts defined the traditional Republican approach of post-truth politics.

    Republicans thus talk about “taxes” and “spending” and “regulation” in the abstract, since Americans oppose them in the abstract even as they support their specific manifestations. They talk about cutting the deficit even as they slash taxes on the rich and launch unfunded wars. They talk about free markets even as they subsidize fossil fuels. They talk about American exceptionalism even as they protect fossil-fuel incumbents and fight research and infrastructure investments.

    In short, Republicans have mastered post-truth politics. They’ve realized that their rhetoric doesn’t have to bear any connection to their policy agenda.

    On the other hand, post-policy means not even having to bother with rebranding policies that Americans oppose. It simply means fighting anything and everything the opposition attempts to do while ginning up the outrage. You simply demand a repeal of everything from Obamacare to the Iran Deal and executive actions on immigration and threaten to shut the government down if you don’t get it.

    Donald Trump has absolutely mastered post-policy politics. He says that he’s going to deport the 11 million undocumented people in this country and when asked how he will accomplish that – he simply says…”management skills.” Ben Carson’s, “when I talk about a 10% flat tax, I don’t really mean 10%” is another great example.

    By now, you’ve probably heard about the epic tale told by a woman named Zola, about a trip to Florida involving Jess, Z, and Jarrett. If you have not heard of this story, you have not been on the internet for the last 36 hours, and you were probably being productive with your life. Kudos. The rest of us, meanwhile, have been hemmed up as we’ve been riveted by the tales of trapping gone wrong, told by Zola on Twitter. HERE IS THE STORY. READ IT.

    I have spent the last day hollering at this story. Zola’s story gave me drama, suspense, comedy and thriller. It was like a ratchet Lifetime Movie and it is worthy of big screen. I’m honestly waiting for someone to run Zola a book deal so I can give her my money because she is a gifted storyteller.

    One thing I really appreciated about the story, are the lessons Zola passed on to us. There were so many things to take away to apply to your own life. You might not realize that you could extract teachable moments from tales of 2 strippers taking an ill-forsaken trip to Florida, America’s penis. But you just gotta open your eyes and look all around you. There’s inspiration everywhere.

    For example, I never knew “Vibing over our hoeism” is a perfectly acceptable pasttime. Does that mean you create a hoeism playlist and jam together in bonding of shared love of the traplife? Because if so, that sounds great and should be an Apple Music commercial. Or a Spotify playlist we can all subscribe to.

    An Elmer’s restaurant in Vancouver, Washington, is facing a $100,000 lawsuit from Brian Eason, a black customer who says a server asked him to prepay for his breakfast. The server said a few people ran out on the bill recently, so they were asking people to prepay, which Eason then did.

    When Eason ordered a new drink, his server asked him to prepay again.

    “I said, ‘This is kind of odd that I have to prepay every time I order my food and drink,'” Eason told the Oregonian. “She said, ‘I think it’s discrimination and my boss is here, and she’s forcing me to have me do this.’

      I have kin folk who are well-accomplished, and I know countless others that don’t get the Hollywood SHINE. The efforts to strip away the major successes of Black folks is the goal here. I don’t give a SHIT what Cosby did off the set. He’s not the only actor that has a SHADY ASS PAST.

      Acting and reality= DIFFERENT. The reality of BLACK, PROFESSIONAL, SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE is what these MOFOs are attempting to ERASE. PERIOD.

    Jimmere knew that she had to protect her work and patenting was the only way to go.

    She says, “I wanted to protect my invention from imitators because I knew I could be sitting on a gold mine. Also, I kept hearing Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank saying, ‘What do you have that’s proprietary about your business?’ I wanted to ensure ownership, as well as a legacy for my company.

    Jimmy Prude says that the greatest benefit of his cookies isn’t just that they are good for you, but that they are also delicious. So, what is a vegan cookie? According to Prude, “Vegan just means there are no animal products used in the creation of these cookies.” And why is that important? According to Urban Intellectuals, Prude believes that by keeping animal products (including milk, eggs, and butter) out of the cookies, it creates ” a guilt-free indulgence”.

    Prude is a graduate of Howard University, and while he set up his shop in Chicago’s Auburn Gresham neighborhood, Prude is challenging people everywhere to consider making a change in their food choices. “Amid the rising health concerns (and cost) of people around the world, eating a bit healthier is on our minds….even when enjoying cookies.”

    Hank Adcock of Nectar lost half his right hand in a farming accident in June – but he’ll tell anybody who will listen that he would have lost a lot more if it weren’t for Obamacare.

    “I’d a lost the farm, I guess,” said Adcock.

    The farm has been in his family for three generations, and Adcock has been working it for most of his 62 years. In June, both hands got caught in a hay baler while Adcock worked alone on Straight Mountain.

    But they aren’t particularly rich, which is why the Adcocks didn’t have health coverage since the late 1980s. The family couldn’t afford to pay nearly $1,200 a month for a policy.

    The Obamacare policy they signed up for last year cost $102 a month, and it completely covered Hank’s $63,000 hospital bill. Without it, the family could have been financially ruined.

    “I tell everyone I can about Obamacare, but some people don’t want nothing to do with it.” Adcock said.

    Defense blames Indian grandfather at start of new trial, ‘follow our laws and speak our language’

    The second time around, the opening statements were far sharper, as the defense looked to blame the leg sweep on the victim.

    The U.S. Department of Justice once again seeks to imprison a Madison police officer for up to 10 years for using excessive force in the leg sweep takedown that left an Indian citizen in need of spinal surgery.

    The first trial of Officer Eric Parker ended in a hung jury last month. This time both sides focused much of their opening arguments on the actions of the victim, Sureshbhai Patel, in the moments before the takedown.

    Defense attorney Robert Tuten this time told the jury that the escalation of force was largely the fault of Patel.

    “When you come to the U.S. we expect you to follow our laws and speak our language,” said Tuten. “Mr. Patel bears as much responsibility for this as anyone.”

    The first jury deadlocked 10-2 in favor of acquittal. That’s 10 males, none black, who favored acquittal. Two black women argued Parker was guilty.

    When Republican presidential candidate and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush called out Sen. Marco Rubio at the third GOP debate Wednesday night, he may have insulted a nation. Bush, attacking Rubio for missing a string of Senate votes, said his rival needed to show up to work — which he said wasn’t that hard, given the Senate’s “French work week.” But CNBC reported his comment didn’t sit well with the French ambassador to the United States, Gérard Araud.

    Araud took to Twitter Wednesday night to defend the idea of a French work week, a tradition adopted in 2000 that sets the legal maximum of employee hours at 35. He noted that despite the requirement, French people spend an average of 39.6 hours a week — less than the Germans, who work 39.2.

      I think he realizes that this probably won’t end well…His party is full of kooks, cranks, crooks, scoundrels – and any number of ambitious, green-eyed monsters not unlike himself, who’ll go rogue in a heartbeat – and that’s just within his conference …Factor in the rabid party base and those who egg them on, and he’s in a pretty unenviable position that will need more than a few magazine spreads of him batting his eyelids and flexing his guns to slide through..

          A shallow phony who’s tried so hard to pretend he’s some deep thinker and so-called policy wonk when the truth is the guy is still not much far away intellectually or knowledge-wise from the time he was a salesman for Oscar Myers..

          For a guy who’s been talked-up so much, there’s still nothing in his resume or background – professionally or otherwise – that even remotely suggests or points to excellence, exceptionalism or a unique ability to contribute in a way nobody else can..

          Unimpressive all the way..

    Man Calls 911, Turns In Drugs After Hearing President Obama’s Speech
    Wed 9:14 PM, Oct 28, 2015

    CROSS LANES, W.Va. (WSAZ) — Like many West Virginians, a man from Cross Lanes watched President Obama address the drug addiction problem during his visit to Charleston on Oct. 21.

    Later that day, he called 911 and said he needed help for a drug addiction and asked that deputies be sent to his home.

    The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office released details of the incident Wednesday in a release that ended with, “We applaud this person’s self-initiated efforts and wish him well in his recovery.”

    The Sheriff’s Office said after repeated calls back from 911 operators that day, their deputies went to the man’s home. They said he put his hands on the wall and said he needed help.

    The man, in his mid-30s, then showed Deputy J.A. Smith a cooler full of drugs that included included digital scales, 16 Suboxone packs and patches, marijuana, 19 grams of ecstasy and 158 pain pills.

    The man admitted he was a heavy drug user, had watched the President’sspeech and wanted to live a drug-free life for his mother.

    The Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that no charges will be filed against the man. Instead, he was taken by ambulance to a treatment center where he voluntarily entered a drug-addiction rehabilitation program.

    They did not release his name or address.
