Cooley High is a 1975 American film based upon the real high school located on the near north side of Chicago, produced and released by American International Pictures and written by Eric Monte (co-creator of Good Times). The film, set in 1964 Chicago, Illinois, stars Glynn Turman and Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs, and features a soundtrack made up primarily of 1960s Motown hits.
The film is considered a classic of black cinema, and its soundtrack featured a new Motown recording, G.C. Cameron’s hit single “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday”. That song was covered in 1991 by Motown act Boyz II Men on the group’s first LP, named Cooleyhighharmony in honor of this film.

Monte based the film on his experiences from attending the real-life Cooley Vocational High School (which is no longer standing) that served students from the Cabrini–Green public housing projects in Chicago. While the film was set in and around Cabrini–Green, it was primarily filmed at another Chicago-area housing project. Monte has said he wrote the film to dispel myths about growing up in the projects: “I grew up in the Cabrini–Green housing project and I had one of the best times of my life, the most fun you can have while inhaling and exhaling”

There’s been a steady unmasking of a multitude of racial hate, resentment, entitlement etc. that’s laid dormant or simmering beneath the surface – and much of it stems from largely everyday, seemingly ‘normal’ and ‘innocuous’ biases that soon build up into blinding hate..
We all remember when the DHS in 2009 warned of serious threats from white supremacists/right-wing extremists and violent antigovernment groups – and then Homeland Security Director Janet Napolitano had to quickly withdraw the report and apologize once the usual suspects and stokers of the flame rose up in arms..
Suppression of that report did not make the threats it accurately identified go away..

Our nation needs an infusion of kindness teachings in schools, a media blitz of condemnation of racial hate, and a declaration by all good people that haters, racial discriminators, and bigots with be rejected.

Blindspot Renewed for Season 2 at NBC

Blindspot has a freshly-inked renewal deal to show off.
A mere two months into its launch, NBC has already picked up the rookie hit for a second season.
Blindspot thus far is averaging 8.7 million weekly viewers and a 2.4 rating — sometimes equaling the combined demo delivery for time slot rivals Castle and NCIS: LA. Those numbers grow to 12.7 mil and a 3.7 with best available DVR playback data.
“We are over the moon with the success of Blindspot, and want to thank our producers and amazing cast for creating one of the most riveting shows on television,” said Jennifer Salke, President of NBC Entertainment. “We literally can’t wait to see what the second season will bring.”
Blindspot is the first new fall series of the 2015-16 season to snag a Season 2 renewal.

Brown: Rauner’s reversals unlikely to jolt Springfield into gear

Faced with the prospect of an embarrassing legislative defeat, Gov. Bruce Rauner caved in Monday and promised to undo his indefensible crippling of the state’s child care assistance program.
The governor called it a “compromise,” although it was closer to a full retreat. He was clearly the one who gave up the most.
Later in the day, the governor’s office released a letter indicating it is backing off a separate initiative that would have greatly restricted home and community-based services to the elderly and disabled.

Illinois House Democrats under the leadership of Speaker Mike Madigan indicated they may forge ahead Tuesday with a planned vote on legislation to revoke Rauner’s child care cuts — and to strip the governor of the emergency rulemaking authority that he used to make them.
The argument is they don’t trust Rauner to honor the bargain he made with rank-and-file legislators, which doesn’t bode well for the thornier issues of balancing the budget and helping Chicago’s schools.

Tenn. woman arrested after pointing gun at black man for asking for a cigarette lighter

A 67-year-old Tennessee woman was arrested and charged with aggravated assault after drawing her gun on a black man authorities said posed no threat to her, WTVF-TV reported.
“I have never been so afraid of anything in my whole life I don’t think,” Sherry McLain said of the encounter in a Walmart parking lot last weekend. “This guy is the bad guy and I’m the one in handcuffs walking away.”
According to the Murfeesboro Daily News Journal, security footage shows 52-year-old James Crutchfield walking past McLain and turning toward her, but not behaving toward her in a threatening manner.
McLain has insisted that Crutchfield approached her even after she drew her handgun and told him to stop. But the footage actually shows him backing away from her with his hands up before approaching another woman, Diane Miller, and telling her to call the police before running into the store. WTVF reported that Crutchfield never got within 10 feet of McLain during the encounter.
Crutchfield told police that he had asked McLain if she had a cigarette lighter since he had just bought cigarettes in the store, only for her to brandish her weapon. The footage reportedly shows McLain lowering her gun after he got away from her, only to raise it again when Crutchfield approached Miller and a child.
Miller’s daughter, Keeley Benoit, corroborated the police’s account of the incident, saying that “the gun was being pointed at the three of them and [McLain] says, ‘I’m going to shoot you. I’m going to kill you.’”
McLain, who has a legal permit for the gun, faced a $15,000 bond and was also charged with reckless endangerment.
“What are we supposed to do if we can’t protect ourselves?” she asked. “I’m 67 years old.”

American Girl Magazine Faces Backlash for Photo of Adopted
Daughter and Two Dads
A magazine for young girls is facing criticism from a conservative mother’s group over a photo of an 11-year-old with her two fathers.
In the November/December issue of American Girl magazine, Amaya Scheer of Maryland is shown with her three younger brothers — Greyson, Makai and Tristan — along with their fathers, Rob (Daddy) and Reece (Dada). Amaya shares her experience in foster care and how her family works to give back to other kids through Rob’s charity, Comfort Cases.
However, One Million Moms, an organization affiliated with the American Family Association, said in a blog post that its members are “disappointed” in American Girl for spotlighting Amaya’s “Forever Family.”
“1MM supports adoption and taking care of orphans as we are biblically instructed to do in Psalm 82:3, but American Girl could have focused the article on the child and not about the parents since it is a magazine for children. The magazine also could have chosen another child to write about and remained neutral in the culture war.”
The group is encouraging readers to not only unsubscribe from American Girl magazine and catalog, but also avoid shopping at the company’s stores until it stops “pushing the homosexual agenda to children.”

How does this happen..? What was he thinking ..? What demons drive human beings to such a bad place they simply stop thinking..? How is his child ever supposed to forgive him for this..? For taking their mother from them – and in such a violent manner..?
At some point he must have cared about this woman, how does he go from that to hating her so much, he kills her..? What is their child to do now without either parent…?

While wild emotions usually overtake human beings in cases like these which tend to devolve into more than child support or whatever else it was supposedly about – there’s simply no excuse for a gun to feature in child visits or conversations about children – or for him to have used it…Which is why there should have been a mature and sensible mediator to help them navigate and tamp things down..
I realize that restraining orders aren’t necessarily effective deterrents when someone is determined to have the last word, but something has to be done to protect young mothers like this from such violent deaths when relationships sour and providing for a child gets muddied up in other extraneous end of relationship fall-out..
Where’s the child now SG..? Hopefully with someone who cares very much for them and is willing and committed to helping through what will be a difficult and traumatic next several years for this child..
It’s just so senseless…and I bet he’s regretting it right now in that jail room…I wish human beings could learn how to step away, and to let things go…things wouldn’t get out of hand as much…

Ben Carson Was Sued for Malpractice at Least Eight Times
One woman, suffering from multiple sclerosis, claimed Carson failed to review her MRI before performing a risky neurosurgical procedure.
Ben Carson had a pretty remarkable track record for a job that involved slicing people’s heads open.
In his three-decade-long career as a neurosurgeon, Carson, the newly minted leader of the ever-fickle Republican polls, faced a total of eight malpractice claims in the state of Maryland, according to the Maryland Health Care Alternative Dispute Resolution Office.
The HCADRO provided The Daily Beast with the documented claims and verified that these were the only in-state claims they had on file. Their records do not cover any out-of-state claims.

The more questions arise about the veracity of Ben Carson’s personal background, the more the Republican presidential candidate characterizes himself as a victim of unfair scrutiny. There’s a tactical value to the argument – it’s vastly easier to attack news organizations than defend inconsistencies in his record – that simultaneously panders to far-right activists who remain convinced that President Obama wasn’t vetted in the 2007-2008 race.
Carson told NBC’s Chris Jansing over the weekend, “I have always said that I expect to be vetted. But being vetted and what is going on with me, ‘You said this 30 years ago, you said this 20 years ago, this didn’t exist, this didn’t.’ You know, I just, I have not seen that with anyone else. Or if you can show me where that’s happened with someone else, I will take that statement back.”
NBC News’ First Read highlighted some details that Carson may not remember from eight years ago.
We found a combined 165 New York Times and Washington Post articles that were all (or partially) about Barack Obama and Jeremiah Wright between the time Obama first launched his presidential bid (Feb. 2007) and his 2008 victory (Nov. 2008). During that same time period, we found an additional 41 New York Times and Washington Post pieces on Obama and Bill Ayers.
This doesn’t even touch on the conspiratorial questions about Obama’s birthplace.
The Washington Post took a step further yesterday, highlighting the kind of granular scrutiny Carson’s 2016 rivals have faced, from an essay Bernie Sanders wrote 43 years ago, to Jeb Bush’s experimentation with drugs in high school, to months of obsessive coverage about Hillary Clinton’s email server management.
Carson feels put upon, as if he’s been singled out by reporters overeager to pick on him, largely because he’s not at all accustomed to being scrutinized. He was a celebrated surgeon, whose judgment and credibility was unquestioned.
Now that he’s seeking the nation’s highest office, Carson suddenly finds media professionals asking him about his claims that appear to untrue – and he’s outraged. How dare journalists press a presidential candidate about dubious stories he may have made up. Don’t they understand? He’s Ben Carson!

The U.S. Appeals Court for the 5th Circuit of New Orleans blocked implementation of Obama’s action to allow children who entered the U.S. illegally to stay, and to permit immigrant parents of U.S. citizens to apply for work permits. Immigration advocates hope the administration will appeal quickly to the Supreme Court, in time for a June ruling
