O come, O come, Emmanuel is a translation of the Latin text (“Veni, veni, Emmanuel“) by John Mason Neale and Henry Sloane Coffin in the mid-19th century. It is a metrical version of a collation of various Advent Antiphons (the acrostic O Antiphons), which now serves as a popular Advent and Christmas hymn. Its origins are unclear, it is thought that the antiphons are from at least the 8th Century, but “Veni, veni Emmanuel” may well be 12th Century in origin.[3][4] The text is based on the biblical prophecy from Isaiah 7:14 that states that God will give Israel a sign that will be called Immanuel (Lit.: God with us). Matthew 1:23 states fulfillment of this prophecy in the birth of Jesus of Nazareth

Justice Department will launch investigation into practices of Chicago police
The Justice Department plans to launch an investigation into the patterns and practices of the Chicago Police Department, a wide-ranging review similar to those that scrutinized the police departments in Ferguson, Mo., and Baltimore, according to several law enforcement officials.
The civil probe, which the officials say could be announced early this week, comes as Chicago continues to grapple with protests after the release of a video showing the police shooting of Laquan McDonald, which prompted murder charges for the officer involved and the resignation of the city’s police chief. The Justice Department is already investigating the McDonald shooting, but this new investigation by the department’s civil rights division would focus on the police department’s practices broadly to determine whether any of them contribute to civil rights violations.

Seriously, I am not a bit hopeful about the DOJ investigating anyhting tied to Rahm Emanuel in any meaningful productive way.
As PBO’s former Chief -of-Staff, and now a major city mayor he is a total disgrace.
And it is DOUBTFUL AG Loretta Lynch and her crew will uncover anything meaningful regarding this case. She will stand behind the dias and spout the same manufactured lines, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, ALSO TOO!
Just tweeted basically the same thing.
Yeah, the DOJ has been investigating the police killing of Laquan McDonald since last April, I believe. And they have divulged zero information in spite of the release of the dashcam video, just that they are still investigating. I’d like to know what these investigators do all day.
At this point DOJ stands for Denier Of Justice!! I’m so over the governments interpretation of justice.

Minorities Get Less Pain Treatment in E.R.
By NICHOLAS BAKALAR NOVEMBER 30, 2015 3:09 PM
White patients receive more pain treatment in emergency rooms than African-Americans and other minorities, a new study reports.
Researchers studied four years of data collected nationwide by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. They used a sample of 6,710 visits to 350 emergency rooms by patients 18 and older with acute abdominal pain.
White and black patients reported severe pain with the same frequency — about 59 percent. But after controlling for age, insurance status, income, degree of pain and other variables, the researchers found that compared with non-Hispanic white people, non-Hispanic blacks and other minorities were 22 percent to 30 percent less likely to receive pain medication. Patients were also less likely to receive pain medicine if they were over 75 or male, lacked private insurance or were treated at a hospital with numerous minority patients. The study is in the journal Medical Care.

White Debt
Reckoning with what is owed — and what can never be repaid — for racial privilege.
By EULA BISS
DEC. 2, 2015
The word for debt in German also means guilt. A friend who used to live in Munich mentioned this to me recently. I took note because I’m newly in debt, quite a lot of it, from buying a house. So far, my debt is surprisingly comfortable, and that’s one quality of debt that I’ve been pondering lately — how easy it can be.
……………………
‘‘Only something that continues to hurt stays in the memory,’’ Nietzsche observes in ‘‘On the Genealogy of Morality.’’ My student-loan debt doesn’t hurt, though it hasn’t seemed to have gotten any smaller over the past decade, and I’ve managed to forget it so thoroughly that I recently told someone that I’d never been in debt until I bought a house. Creditors of antiquity, Nietzsche writes, tried to encourage a debtor’s memory by taking as collateral his freedom, wife, life or even, as in Egypt, his afterlife. Legal documents outlined exactly how much of the body of the debtor that the creditor could cut off for unpaid debts. Consider the odd logic, Nietzsche suggests, of a system in which a creditor is repaid not with money or goods but with the pleasure of seeing the debtor’s body punished. ‘‘The pleasure,’’ he writes, ‘‘of having the right to exercise power over the powerless.’’

Without a Gun, a Lone Wolf Terrorist Is Far Less Deadly
By David Atkins
Pro-gun advocates like to say that “guns don’t kill people, people do.” The policy upshot of that philosophy is to deny the agency of the gun itself in gun violence, while deflecting responsibility for gun killings to the individual perpetrator and to a myriad of other social factors from religion to mental illness.
We can enumerate a wide array of statistics to explain that proliferation of guns really is the problem. We can point out that America doesn’t have any more mentally ill than other nations with far less gun violence, that America doesn’t have a greater percentage of impoverished and poorly integrated minorities than other similar nations. We can note that Americans are far more religious than other countries with far less gun violence, so lack of obedience to and faith in God isn’t the answer. We can observe that other nations like Australia have successfully quelled gun violence with strict gun control policies.
But ultimately the human brain responds better to simple examples than to a series of statistics and imperfect correlations.
The simple truth is that the same terrorist impulse is far less deadly when guns are less accessible. Yesterday an ISIS-inspired terrorist in London shouted about revenge for Syria and tried to go on a murder spree. But the death toll was zero—not because of a lack of motivation, but because the perpetrator wasn’t able to gain access to a firearm.

But them 2ND amendment rights THO!
When one seriously tries to argue that the right to own a gun, a tool to kill, super cedes my right to live in peace, that person has a moral deficiency, in my opinion. I do not want to take your gun. I want my life to matter more than your right to own that gun. Unfortunately, we can not control the mind of any individual. We can control the access to death machines though. It seems irresponsible to make available these tools of destruction. Every single day in almost every town in this country someone dies from gun violence. Every year the number of guns sold in this country goes up. Every year the mass casualties increase. The numbers clearly point out that more guns just means more gun deaths. This myth that more guns will keep us safe is untrue. For the sake of our children and our country, we have to change this course. When I think of God, the image I get is not of God strapped within an AK.

Rearranging some things in my living room and gonna try and put my tree up. I decorated the fire place yesterday. It only comes in use at Christmas time for decorations. :)
sounds like a good way to spend a Sunday, SG2
Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel is so beautiful, so Holy. It touches my heart deeply. I love listening to it but then it makes me sad because I don’t have my parents anymore.
The church songs are my favorite ones at Christmas. Takes me back to being in the girls choir in 7th and 8th grades. This is a really beautiful version of Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel.
Indeed, Liza.
I’m not feeling Christmas this year. Peace on Earth etc… rings kind of hollow. But in your honor, SG2, I will set up my Christmas village today, it does seem to make me feel better. I know you love Christmas.
You’re so sweet, Liza. There’s good reason I love you. I’m rearranging some things in my living room. I’m trying to bring some joy to my kids. I want to make it pleasant and happy for them. It makes me happy.
I’m sure you bring joy to many, SG2. :)
I understand, SG2.
My last Aunt passed away last night. She was the last sibling of either one of my parents. I’ve been thinking a lot of Christmas’ past lately.
Oh Rikyrah, I’m so so sorry. My deepest sympathy to you and your family. I’ll be lifting you all in prayer.
I’m sending my love and sympathy to you and your family, Rikyrah.
May the memories of past Christmas family times together warm your heart.
My condolences to you and your family, Rikyrah.
I believe drawing on all those wonderful memories of Christmases past, helps me draw on the love and warmth, and help create new memories for the present moments.
So sorry for your loss, Rikyrah. That certainly seems to be part of Christmas as we get older, thinking about those who had to leave us. But there’s always the children.
I also really love Oh Come, O Come Emmanuel It’s one of my favorites.

Why this single mother of 3 moved her family to the UAE
By Monica Leftwich December 3
Rarely do you hear about a newly divorced mother relocating to the Middle East for a new life. But that’s what Tanai Benard, 32, did two years ago, when she and her three children moved to Abu Dhabi.
The move had been a dream that the Texas mother and her then-husband had — before he backed out. Benard filed for divorce shortly before boarding a plane for the United Arab Emirates.
So I wondered: How does a single mom make it work in a new country? I chatted with her over Skype recently. Here’s a lightly edited transcript of our conversation.
