At the age of twenty-nine, English writer William Chatterton Dix was struck with a sudden near-fatal illness and confined to bedrest for several months, during which he went into a deep depression.[1][2] Yet out of his near-death experience, Dix wrote many hymns, including “What Child is This?”, later set to the traditional English tune “Greensleeves“ and retitled as “What Child Is This?”

    Rev. Run knows how to keep himself a tv show. Now, he’s got the one on the travel channel, and I just watched all the episodes so far. I loved the family’s trip to Hong Kong. The tailor was hilarious. And, the image of Rev. Run, going to this hideous looking building in a bad looking part of Hong Kong, only to open the doors to find this fantastic looking indoor skateboard park and game place – with two young entrepreneurs who obviously LOVED hip-hop and were gobsmacked to have THE REV RUN of RUN DMC in their business..I loved it..LOL

    Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Crushes Records, Topping Largest Box Office Weekend of All Time

    Star Wars: The Force Awakens stormed the box office and walked away with an estimated $238 million in its first three days domestically (including $57 million in Thursday night “previews”) along with another $279 million internationally for a massive $517 million worldwide opening. Suffice to say, this shatters the domestic box office opening weekend record of $208.8 million set by Jurassic World earlier this year, but the record-breaking doesn’t end there.

    In just its first day of release Force Awakens brought in an estimated $120.5 million setting a new record for the largest Friday, opening day and single day. All on its own, that opening day was also enough to break the previous December opening weekend record of $84.62 million set by The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey in 2012. Additionally, the film now holds the following domestic records:

      Just got home from the movie Star Wars. Disney knows where the money is. The most diverse cast I’ve seen yet in any Star Wars movie. I wish Lupitia could have a role where we get to see that BEAUTIFUL BLACK FACE, along with those wise lines in the movie.

    Don’t Blame Mental Illness for Gun Violence

    Those who oppose expanded gun-control legislation frequently argue that instead of limiting access to guns, the country should focus on mental health problems.

    “People with mental illness are getting guns and committing these mass shootings,” said Paul Ryan, the speaker of the House, after the shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., early this month. And Republicans in the Senate backed mental-health legislation even as they rejected bills to require universal background checks and bar people on the terrorism watch list from buying guns.

    But mass shootings represent a small percentage of all gun violence, and mental illness is not a factor in most violent acts. According to one epidemiological estimate, entirely eliminating the effects of mental illness would reduce all violence by only 4 percent. Over all, less than 5 percent of gun homicides between 2001 and 2010 were committed by people with diagnoses of mental illness, according to a public health study published this year.

    New York drug bust nets 136 pounds of cocaine worth estimated $3 million

    NOTICE: “TWO MEN”

    Two men were arrested and nearly $3 million worth of cocaine was seized in New York City in what is being described as the biggest bust involving the drug in recent years as heroin abuse has surged, law enforcement authorities said on Saturday.

    Mark Soto and Xavier Herbert-Gumbs, face felony drug possession charges after authorities said they found a total of 136 pounds (61.7 kg) of cocaine in their vehicles in the Bronx, according to a statement by the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor in New York.

    “This is the largest cocaine seizure that our office has made in recent years,” said Kati Cornell, spokeswoman for the prosecutor. “Recently, we’ve seen a lot more large seizures of heroin, so this case is certainly unusual.”

    Her office did not have information available as to when or how large the last major cocaine bust in New York was recorded. New York City police did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

I saw in previous thread that Ms. SG2 has not been feeling well and I am sending good mojo and prayers your way, and my wishes to all of you for a peaceful, joyous holiday with friends and family. I am flying to Tampa Tuesday to be with my daughter, grandsons, son in law and granddog.

    A no-fly zone and regime change became their biggest points of contention.
    On a night that began with Bernie Sanders apologizing for his campaign aides improperly accessing rival presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s voter database, it was not political shenanigans but pronounced foreign policy differences between the two leading Democratic candidates that proved to be a key fault line in the third Democratic debate Saturday in Manchester, New Hampshire.

    In September 2000, Oscar Del Toro of Monterrey, Mexico, arrived with his wife and three children at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston to start a new life in the United States. Del Toro, then 38, had spent his whole life in Mexico. His mother and father were naturalized American citizens who lived near Houston and had wanted to bring him to the United States with them. But because he was already an adult, with a wife and a child, he was subject to a long waiting period for a green card. He went on with his life in Mexico, building a business selling laser printers and buying a comfortable four-bedroom house. He had more or less forgotten all about the prospect of moving to the United States when, around Christmas in 1999, his mother told him she had a present for him: an Immigration and Naturalization Service letter inviting him and his family to apply for permanent residency.

    Del Toro’s parents lived in Pasadena, an oil town on the outskirts of Houston. He moved there, too, to a cramped three-room apartment on the north side of town, above the informal dividing line marked by the Spencer Highway. The north side of Pasadena is a mostly Hispanic area, its streets lined with signs advertising carnicerías, peluquerías and abogados de inmigración. In recent years, so many Mexicans have moved there that some Spanish-speaking locals have taken to calling the area ‘‘Nuevo León,’’ for the Mexican border state where many of them, including the Del Toros, came from. As the older part of town — ‘‘historic,’’ goes the official city designation — its compact neighborhoods have streets cratered with potholes, and sidewalks that are slanted and buckling and overgrown with weeds.

    His timing was good. Many Spanish-language businesses were starting from scratch, too, and as they expanded they would need office equipment. What they lacked in money, they made up for in numbers: In 2000, Pasadena, then with a population of about 140,000, was 48 percent Hispanic, on its way to 63 percent today. Here was his real market. Back on his feet, he bought a four-bedroom red-brick house with a yard and a two-car garage, joined the local Chamber of Commerce and, in 2006, secured his citizenship. This was the American dream Del Toro had envisioned. ‘‘I was kind of blessed,’’ he told me. ‘‘I got to start all over again.’’

    As a new member of the growing Pasadena business community, Del Toro became more attuned to the sense of inequality that residents felt on the north side. His customers complained about the sinking sidewalks, about the antiquated drainage systems that turned streets into lagoons during rainstorms. In 2008, Mayor Isbell gave a speech to the Chamber of Commerce in which he linked a new policy cracking down on traffic infractions — drunken driving, driving without insurance — with another policy reporting the immigration status of all those arrested to immigration authorities. To Del Toro’s ears, Isbell was scapegoating undocumented immigrants for all the city’s problems: They drink too much; they cause accidents but they have no car insurance. Del Toro walked out. In his view, Isbell was trying to distract people from what really mattered, the way the south side had flowers and the north side had weeds.

    In 2009, one of Del Toro’s customers, Dana Philibert, a white insurance agent, decided to run against Isbell, promising voters to spend city money more wisely. Del Toro offered to help her by going door to door in the Spanish-speaking north, the way he had for his own business. She lost, but Del Toro realized he had an appetite for American-style politics. Philibert was a Republican, so Del Toro, a golf-playing member of the N.R.A., attended a couple of local Republican meetings, but he quickly decided the party was not for him: not only because Isbell and other Pasadena Republicans had become increasingly bellicose about undocumented immigrants, but also because of its stance on abortion rights and, he emphasized, gay rights — ‘‘I always admired the United States in that aspect,’’ he said. ‘‘You are fine the way you are. You don’t have to be something else.’’

    Greetings ladies, it been a while but I will give thought on the Democratic Debate last night. I’ve been feeling the Bern but now I feel HRC too. I think their agendas are so close that they should run together. The problem with that I couldn’t see either stepping back for the VP seat. But O’Mally as much as he tried can just take a seat.

      Over time, I see no evidence that Hillary can be trusted regardless of what she says now. For me, this goes back to the 1992 election when she and Bill made universal healthcare a cornerstone of Bill’s campaign. By 1994, universal healthcare was DOA and Bill became a Republican (or DINO to use a kinder phrase) and there were years of bad legislation because of that. Hillary’s career as NY Senator was unremarkable (correct me if I’m wrong) and she did not, as far as I know, accomplish anything as SOS that has had a major impact. And her unconditional support for Israel is worrisome, IMO.

      The Clintons, as I see them, are politicians, and not a great deal more. Neither one of them has much of a backbone, and these are not the times for their brand of weakness. Hillary is a talker, that’s for sure, but what has all that talk really accomplished?
