This is the “class first” approach, originating in the myth that racism and socialism are necessarily incompatible. But raising the minimum wage doesn’t really address the fact that black men without criminal records have about the same shot at low-wage work as white men with them; nor can making college free address the wage gap between black and white graduates. To briefly restate it, from 1619 until at least the late 1960s, American institutions, businesses, associations, and governments—federal, state and local—repeatedly plundered black communities. Their methods included everything from land-theft, to red-lining, to disenfranchisement, to convict-lease labor, to lynching, to enslavement, to the vending of children. So large was this plunder that America, as we know it today, is simply unimaginable without it. Its great universities were founded on it. Its early economy was built by it. Its suburbs were financed by it. Its deadliest war was the result of it.

Track Palin, son of failed vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, is facing several charges in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident at the former Alaska governor’s home Monday night.
The charges were announced by Wasilla police on the same day that Sarah Palin endorsed GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
According to a statement from the Wasilla Police Department issued Tuesday, Track Palin was arrested after police responded at about 10 p.m. Monday to a disturbance at Sarah Palin’s home on Lake Lucille along the West Parks Highway.
“An investigation revealed Track Palin had committed a domestic violence assault on a female, interfered with her ability to report a crime of domestic violence, and possessed a firearm while intoxicated,” police wrote.
Wasilla police investigator Dan Bennett said Tuesday afternoon that the department had no further comment on Track Palin’s arrest, routing questions to charging documents against him filed in Palmer court.
According to a criminal complaint in the case filed by investigator Andrew Kappler, police responded to a 911 call at the home where a female said she had been punched in the face and mentioned the involvement of a firearm. Upon arrival, police found Track walking in the area with a “a visible injury to his right eye.” When asked about the call, Palin denied that a gun was involved but said several were in the home.
“Due to Palin’s escalating hostility, the unknown whereabouts of the 911 caller, and officer safety, Palin was placed into handcuffs,” Kappler wrote.
Palin was ultimately charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault and misconduct involving weapons, as well as interfering with the reporting of a domestic violence crime. He was held at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility.

There’s no doubt that when historians assess the Obama presidency, they will pay a great deal of attention to the deep political divisions within the country, and how those divisions shaped political events. There are racial divisions, class divisions, and, most of all, political divisions. Within Congress, for instance, the parties have been moving apart for the last 40 years, as fewer and fewer moderates get elected and the median of both parties moves toward the edge. But the reality is that while Democrats have moved left, Republicans have been moving right much more sharply — a fact not only established by political science but evident to anyone remotely familiar with Capitol Hill.
Yet Republicans are sure that the fault for all this — long-term trends and recent developments alike — can be laid at the feet of Barack Obama, who is terribly, appallingly, despicably divisive.
If we are divided, it’s only because Obama has divided us. “We have not seen such a divisive figure in modern American history” as Barack Obama, Marco Rubio said in 2012. Four years later, his opinion hasn’t changed; last week he tweeted, “This president has been the single most divisive political figure this country has had over the last decade.” After Obama’s recent State of the Union address, Ted Cruz fumed, “He lectures us on civility yet has been one of the most divisive presidents in American history.” Or as one Republican congressman said last week, “There probably has not been a more racially-divisive, economic-divisive president in the White House since we had presidents who supported slavery.” You won’t find too many Republicans who would disagree.
Yet if you spend some time investigating what evidence Republicans offer when they call Obama divisive, what you find is not actually evidence at all, but their own skewed interpretations of events. “He says ‘It’s my way or the highway’ on legislation!”, they charge — although he doesn’t actually say that. It’s just that he has a different legislative agenda than they do. “He crammed ObamaCare down our throats!” — this is a sentence that has been written and spoken a thousand times (just Google it for yourself). Back on Planet Earth, the Affordable Care Act spent over a year going through endless hearings, floor speeches, and debates, and in the end passed the House and Senate and was signed by the president, which you may recall is how a bill becomes a law.
Here’s the truth: You might like Barack Obama or you might not; you might think he has been a good president or a bad one. But the idea that blame for the political divisions we confront lies solely or even primarily at his door is positively deranged.

It was common knowledge that a very progressive-left Bernie Sanders was unhappy that the President wasn’t as extreme left as they’d have liked, and the Emoprogs did try to recruit Bernie Sanders to run, but he didn’t. In much the same way he complained bitterly when the Democratic candidates were announced for this round, and there appeared to be no “progressive” candidate among them. He was only persuaded to run by the likes of Ed Schultz who kept pushing him to go for it – but I do believe Bernie Sanders’ original plan as in 2012, was simply to raise awareness and push for progressive issues he cared about but felt were not always front and center for most centrist candidates – to be addressed…or at the minimum, not ignored entirely. I don’t believe Bernie Sanders actually planned to go all the way…he just wanted to influence the debate – until of course, his candidacy caught on..
It is important to remember that Jeremy Bird – like most of other Democratic political operatives, now work for Hillary – or are indirectly connected to her campaign through their former cohorts – And those who aren’t – just like those who are still working for the President in the White House, are hoping to be hired if she wins. It’s about opportunism and job preservation not principle. These are not honest brokers. They are all political opportunists.
These are those guys who thought because we rallied for Senator/President Obama, that somehow they had something to do with it…that they were the catalyst…And they were so sure that they were going to run around getting paid for working ‘their magic’…Except many of us had to remind them that it was the Obamas who attracted us – they were the magic not any of the political operatives – or the perceived political wizardry of said operatives…And they’re all finding out the hard way…
With all of Hillary Clinton’s so-called ‘seasoning’ and 30 years and counting in politics, and with the field completely cleared for her, and with every supposedly whiz Democratic political operative and group working for her, she’s still struggling against Bernie Sanders..
Jeremy Bird and Mitch Stewart are the co-founders of 270 Strategies. 270 Strategies did all the legwork and laid the groundwork for Hillary’s run via ‘Ready For Hillary’. If you recall, Jeremy Bird was also behind ‘Battleground Texas’ the group that was supposedly trying to flip Texas. He backed and worked unsuccessfully to get Wendy Davis elected.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, just because they’re affiliated with President Obama or the Obama campaigns of 2008 and 2012, doesn’t mean they’re good or principled or have integrity. They are first and foremost political opportunists. Greedy, self-promoting and unprincipled in many instances. Didn’t take most of them a second to jump on Hillary’s bandwagon – In much the same way most were resume-shuffling from politician to politician in D.C, when they stumbled into then Senator Obama’s office and later his campaign.
For the same reason I’ve often said that most of these people aren’t sh*t – and unlike some supporters, I do not transfer my love of and loyalty to the Obamas to those who work or worked for them..

I had to laugh when Hillary talked about the 21st century in the debate. She has lived in a bubble for 30 years, and I daresay the 21st century has eluded her. Her reliance on talking points and rehearsed, recently learned answers in the debate was too obvious except perhaps when she could relate her answer to when she was SoS. That part seemed less rehearsed. She failed miserably on the question about police brutality. “We must make a concerted effort blah blah retrain police blah blah. Bernie did the best on that question and scored some points with me when he talked about the DOJ. But getting back to Hillary, if elected, we will see the same old Clinton fossils, those who aren’t dead, and whoever else has bowed before the Queen like Lil’ Debbie and then it’s back to the 1990s as far as the Clintons are concerned because that is where they are hardwired.
I ask myself if I am overly pessimistic but I’m never able to think of a leopard who changed its spots.

Paris: Millions of Twitter users were blocked from their feeds on Tuesday as the social networking site went down in several countries, suffering one of the worst outages in its 10-year history.
“Some users are currently experiencing problems accessing Twitter. We are aware of the issue and are working towards a resolution,” the US site said, without giving details of the cause of the outage.
A spokesperson for Twitter Europe confirmed the site was down, while users in South Africa, Brazil, the Philippines, Nigeria and Uganda also reported problems accessing the site with the hashtag #twitterdown on Facebook.
Users in affected countries were met with the message: “Something is technically wrong.”
After a shutdown lasting about an hour on Tuesday morning, the site was back online in London and Paris — but users in both cities experienced intermittent service in the afternoon.
Users elsewhere, including Russia, were also still experiencing problems.
Many took to Facebook to report the outage with the hashtag #twitterdown.
The shutdown was also the butt of jokes from some social media channels, with British TV channel E4 posting on its Facebook page: “Twitter is down. Worker productivity hits record levels. UK is out of recession!!!”
Rick Devens, a local US radio host, posted on Facebook: “We may never get back some of the clever thoughts I had during this tragic outage.”
Twitter has regularly suffered outages since its launch in 2006, but generally of a shorter duration. Its social media rivals Facebook and Instagram have also had to deal with brief shutdowns.
During a site breakdown in July 2012, frustrated Twitter addicts were unable to post for two hours due to problems at its data centres.
Twitter shares have tumbled 20 percent on the New York stock exchange since the start of the year — notably on rumours that it may scrap the 140-character limit that has kept its posts pithy for the last decade.
Tech news website re/code reported this month that tweets of up to 10,000 characters could be available from March, winning a mixed response from netizens.

Exclusive: Pentagon May Demote David Petraeus
The Pentagon is considering retroactively demoting retired Gen. David Petraeus after he admitted to giving classified information to his biographer and mistress while he was still in uniform, three people with knowledge of the matter told The Daily Beast.
The decision now rests with Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, who is said to be willing to consider overruling an earlier recommendation by the Army that Petraeus not have his rank reduced. Such a demotion could cost the storied general hundreds of thousands of dollars—and deal an additional blow to his once-pristine reputation.
“The secretary is considering going in a different direction” from the Army, a defense official told The Daily Beast, because he wants to be consistent in his treatment of senior officers who engage in misconduct and to send a message that even men of Petraeus’s fame and esteemed reputation are not immune to punishment.
