Kim N. Wayans (born October 16, 1961) is an American actress, comedian, producer, writer and director. Wayans is the sister of Keenen Ivory, Damon, Sr., Marlon, Shawn and Nadia Wayans. She is best known for her numerous roles on the Fox sketch-comedy show In Living Color (1990–94).
Early life
Wayans was born in New York City, the daughter of Elvira Alethia (Green), a homemaker and social worker, and Howell Wayans, a supermarket manager. Her family was involved in the Jehovah’s Witnesses religion. She and her family lived in New York City’s Chelsea neighborhood. She is sister of Keenen, Dwayne, Damon, Sr., Nadia, Shawn and Marlon. She graduated from Seward Park High School and Wesleyan University.

In film she appeared in I’m Gonna Git You Sucka and Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood (both directed by her brother Keenen), and had a starring role in the art film Talking About Sex and later co-starred in Juwanna Mann as homosexual center Latisha Jansen. She starred with her siblings on the Fox variety show In Living Color and A Low Down Dirty Shame. Her other television work includes regular appearances on the sitcom In the House with LL Cool J and a recurring role on A Different World. Recently, she has worked as a story editor on her brother Damon’s sitcom My Wife and Kids.
In 2008 she co-wrote a series of children’s books with her husband Kevin Knotts entitled Amy Hodgepodge about a multiracial girl adjusting to life in public school after years of homeschooling.
In 2011 she got a chance to showcase her dramatic chops with a supporting role as a mother who struggles to understand her 17-year-old daughter in Pariah. She was nominated (alongside co-star Pernell Walker) for Best Supporting Actress at the 2012 Black Reel Awards but lost to Octavia Spencer for the The Help.

Even with all the drama of the 2016 Republican contest for the presidential nomination, it is impossible not to notice the slow-motion train wreck that is the Hillary Clinton campaign.
The campaign is beset by four woes that don’t seem to have any quick remedy. The only way forward for the Democratic front-runner is to hunker down, slog it out and win ugly. Since “malaise” is an overused word in politics, I’ll categorize Clinton’s campaign as “desultory” – or, “lacking a plan or enthusiasm.”
Clinton’s four problems are obvious: Her performance as a candidate, her opponent’s viability, a growing scandal that could lead to the indictment of the former first lady and possibly a few of her closest aides, and the rejection of her legitimacy as a feminist leader.
First, her performance as a candidate is weak and not getting stronger. Nothing about her is fresh, exciting or appealing. President Obama called it early — she just doesn’t have that “new-car smell.” Clinton’s style is stuck in the ’80s, when “message discipline” was all about delivering talking points no matter what. Sticking to the script was considered artful. Repeating yourself and having a high word count but low content was considered clever. Those days are over. Either Clinton doesn’t know that or she can’t change her style. To watch her on TV can be toe-curling. To listen to her rehearsed lines, and, recently, to hear her force Obama’s name into her answers is so contrived it lends itself to parody for SNL.

Not worried about Hillary.
I will forever hold this 2016 election against the Democrats, for ramming a candidate down our throats for the one and only reason that Bill and Hillary Clinton are Democratic royalty and Hillary is obsessed with being the president. So they screwed up this election to make it possible for her. Damn them.

A federal complaint against all 8 suspects tied to the refuge occupation was unsealed in federal court on Wednesday. The complaint lists reasons for Tuesday night’s arrests, and says the armed group had explosives and night-vision goggles. It says they were prepared to fight.

Police Misconduct Database in Chicago Gets $400K Knight Grant
One important role of journalism in a democracy is in providing information to inform citizen action. In some cases, it may simply be about liberating and holding the information in an accessible and easily usable form. This is exemplified by a project in Chicago that has helped local activists inform themselves on police misconduct.
The Knight Foundation has awarded a $400,000 grant out of its Knight News Challenge on Data to fund the Invisible Institute and the Experimental Station to expand its Citizens Police Data Project. The project was established after a long legal fight to force the city to make police misconduct records available, and it now allows citizens to track and analyze those reports. Eventually, citizens will also be able to use it to make reports. The database was launched this last November and has 56,000 complaints on file. To date, use of this data has helped to provide context for the police shootings of Laquan McDonald, Quintonio LeGrier, and Bettie Jones.
“The work The Invisible Institute has been doing feels like a national model for a way transparency can serve the public,” said John Bracken, the Knight Foundation’s vice president for media innovation. “As this project grows, a key component is to engage the community and have them share their experiences. They don’t rely just on a digital component—they have a way for the community to share and engage and that’s at the core of what they plan to do.”
The grant will help the group build out and segment its data, says Alison Flowers, a journalist with the project. “This database changes the power dynamics because it lays out police conduct for the public to see,” she said.—Ruth McCambridge

In a recent email, veteran Republican strategist Alex Castellanos laid out a vision of Marco Rubio’s path to victory that aligns with the boost-Trump-to-kill-Trump theory:
If Cruz underperforms in [Iowa] and Rubio finishes a strong third or better, New Hampshire may evolve into a race between Trump and Rubio, not Trump and Cruz. Unlike Bush/Christie/Kasich, Marco Rubio has a shot at being the only candidate palatable to the establishment who rides into NH with a little [Iowa] momentum. Rubio’s 3-2-1 strategy to finish 3rd in IA, 2nd in NH, and 1st [in South Carolina] could actually develop.
So why boost Trump? The key is that for any of this to work, Ted Cruz needs to lose in Iowa. If Cruz beats Trump, then Cruz heads into New Hampshire with positive press and could easily ride out a New Hampshire loss to Trump before heading to South Carolina and other evangelical-rich Southern states where he’s likely to do well.

The first time I heard the term “Jack and Jill” was in high school. A black girl l knew—let’s call her Toni—was living her best life. Her dad had an MBA from Harvard and was on the board of a bank. She got accepted early to Harvard. They owned their place in New York City. They had a summer house! Let me repeat for emphasis: They owned two places in the United States of America.
Her family did stuff like go to South Africa on spring break (which in retrospect was ridiculous; spring break is only a week and it takes two days just to get to Johannesburg, but hey, far be it from me to police other folks’ pockets). Being a noncitizen, I’ve always had a passport, but at that point, I’d only hopped on a plane to visit family members or go to chess competitions.* She was also the highest of yellas.
I say this all to say, my folk may be humble island/Harlem-projects folk, but I’ve run into an upper-crust black or two in my day—and the ladies on the new Bravo show The Real Housewives of Potomac just do not fit the bill.

Texas dad who took away daughter’s phone not guilty of theft

DALLAS (AP) — A Texas father who was accused of theft after he confiscated his 12-year-old daughter’s cellphone over an inappropriate text has been acquitted of the misdemeanor charge.
A judge in Dallas found Ronald Jackson not guilty Tuesday, citing insufficient evidence.
Grand Prairie police arrested Jackson a few hours after he commandeered his daughter’s cellphone and refused to return it. The 36-year-old father says a text he found on the phone was rude.
The girl’s mother says she owns the cellphone and reported the confiscation as theft.
Jackson posted $1,500 bail to get out of jail, but later received a mailed citation for theft. He refused to pay.
The father went to court and successfully fought the citation involving his now-15-year-old daughter.
Jackson also kept the cellphone.

Last night I had a great time at the Delta Airlines MLK Dinner honoring Dr. Josie Johnson. She’s a longtime Minneapolis activist. She spoke on trying to calm the city during 1967 “riots,” protesting at Honeywell for making nukes in the 80’s. These “strange times” watching the disrespect of our Black President. Being at 1963 March on Washington, Obama Inauguration and first SOTU, seeing “You Lie,” Roberts shaking his head, SC Justices not showing up for the first time… ever. She encouraged people to stay woke. She didn’t speak for Hillz or Bernie.
My highlight: Taking a picture with her afterward. Telling her of knowing of her from my mom working in the community in the 80’s, going with her on ’83 March on Washington. She said ” I remember Cheryl.” Her handler trying to rush me off so he could take his own pictures with her. I mentioned her co-workers. She smiled and said “those were my peeps!”
Dr. Johnson asked if mom was still alive, I told her mom passed in 2011. She gave her condolences and a big hug. Made my night.
Meanwhile Bernie was in town.

AIG CEO Blames Obama Retirement Rule for Broker-Dealer Exit

A U.S. proposal for stricter rules on retirement-product sales helped spur American International Group Inc.’s decision to sell its broker-dealer operation, according to Chief Executive Officer Peter Hancock.
“It’s a business we are not the best owner of, particularly in the light of potential Department of Labor rules,” Hancock said Tuesday in a conference call updating investors on AIG’s strategy. “With the new DOL rules, that was a big factor in thinking whether this was better owned by somebody independent of us.”
President Barack Obama’s administration has said that new rules are required so advisers put their clients’ best interests first for retirement accounts. The proposal could increase compliance costs for the industry. Hancock announced a deal Tuesday to sell AIG Advisor Group to investment funds affiliated with Donald Marron’s Lightyear Capital LLC and PSP Investments, a Canadian pension investment manager.
The insurer’s comments show that the industry believes the rule is going to move forward, according to Barbara Roper, director of investor protection for the Consumer Federation of America.

Well, Hillary isn’t alone in not knowing American history. It really is sad how little we are taught, and it is even worse when what little is taught is the revised and sanitized version. I would bet that most folks who do know American history, or any part thereof, obtained that knowledge either as a history major or through self study.
Even so, Hillary’s reply about her most admired president is revealing. Lincoln is a safe choice in 2016, who is going to argue? I’m just not certain whether or not her explanation, where she equates the Reconstruction Era with segregation and Jim Crow, indicates that she believes the Lost Cause version of the Civil War and its aftermath, or if she simply doesn’t know what she’s talking about. We expect this of Sarah Palin, but not Hillary Clinton because she is reputed to be “wicked smart.”
What I find most telling is her reference to “forgiveness and reconciliation.” Since when did Hillary support either? This is the same dingbat who said in 2008 that she would “obliterate Iran” on behalf of Israel, if Iran decided to drop their non-existent nuclear bomb. When did forgiveness and reconciliation become so admirable to her?
Maybe folks need to accept that Hillary doesn’t always know what she’s talking about. I think she thought she was giving a benign, non-controversial answer to a stock question.

Bryn Mickle, editor of The Flint Journal, talks with Rachel Maddow about Michigan Governor Rick Snyder picking a fight with the EPA over their jurisdiction in the Flint water crisis and his caginess on past e-mails and the apportionment of millions of federal dollars in aid for Flint.
Snyder apparently thinks that the smoking gun is well hidden, and that he will escape retribution for this crime against humanity. Why Aren’t Republican Leaders Rallying Behind Marco Rubio?
He might be too conservative.

Why hasn’t Marco Rubio, widely described as the electable conservative, caught on? It’s difficult to say, and there’s still plenty of time — before and after Iowa — for a Rubio surge. Nonetheless, Rubio’s clearest problem is that he hasn’t won over the establishment: He could be the best of both worlds, an establishment-friendly nominee with tea party bona fides, but right now neither camp is rallying behind him with any conviction.
Just look at the endorsements. For several weeks in late 2015, it looked like elected Republicans were inching toward Rubio. But that has largely stopped; Rubio received 10 endorsements from governors and members of Congress in November and seven in December. He has just two so far this month (Ted Cruz has received five), and Jeb Bush still remains the marginal leader in our endorsement tracker. Why aren’t members of Congress coming to save Rubio? Part of the answer may simply be that Rubio is too conservative and too anti-establishment.
Rubio’s ideology tends to get lost next to that of Cruz, but he is one of the most conservative members of Congress. We can see this using DW-Nominate, an algorithm that rates members of Congress on a liberal-conservative scale based on their voting record. Rubio is more conservative than 77 percent of Republicans serving in Congress this term.
