Michigan environmental agency to present Flint water-testing plan: report

DETROIT (Reuters) – The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality will present a comprehensive plan to federal officials on Monday to test lead-contaminated drinking water in Flint, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The goal would be to come up with a reliable assessment for the water system by April 14, when Michigan’s state of emergency is set to expire, the paper said.

Officials at the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality could not be immediately reached for comment.

The financially strapped city was under the control of a state-appointed emergency manager when it switched its source of tap water from Detroit’s system to the nearby Flint River in April 2014, in order to save money.

Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has repeatedly apologized for the state’s poor handling of the issue.  Seriously, Snyder’s ass needs to be handed a JAIL SENTENCE.

Snyder plans $30M credit for Flint customers

LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder will propose $30 million in state funding to help pay the water bills of Flint residents facing an emergency over the city’s lead-contaminated water supply.

Snyder will brief Flint officials and pastors about the plan Wednesday and outline it to lawmakers next week as part of his 2016-2017 budget proposal, according to a statement the governor’s office provided to The Associated Press.

The aid would cover the estimated portion of residential customers’ utility bills for water that has been or will be used for drinking, cooking, bathing and washing hands. Customers would still be responsible for paying for water used to flush toilets, water lawns, wash clothes and other purposes.

“Flint residents will not have to pay for water they cannot drink,” the Republican governor said in a statement to the AP late Tuesday. “My budget recommendation will include the request that the state make payments to the city’s water system for residential bills going back to April 2014 and alleviate the need for residential water shutoffs.”

And I wonder how long he is going to be allowed to muck around with this crisis pretending it will be solved under his leadership. He should resign, he should resign and go home and wait for the Feds to arrest him. That’s what should happen, but won’t. In the meantime, how many people are irreparably damaged and how many will have delayed symptoms and how many are STILL being damaged?

This is the working GOP, this is their vision. Take all you can from the folks at the bottom, the most vulnerable, the ones who you think can’t fight back effectively.

He’ll keep mucking things up because he’s too busy trying to absolve himself by covering up his tracks – instead of focusing on fixing the problem..

If this community is to even marginally recover from this devastating man-made crisis, Snyder will have to be moved out of the way, and a serious and honest leader brought in to lead recovery efforts –

This is the time for an Emergency Governor…
