Pres. Obama Calls For Ending Taxpayer-Funded Sports Stadiums

In a historic move, President Obama’s new budget proposes eliminating the longstanding practice by governments of forcing taxpayers to foot the bill for wealthy sports franchises to build, renovate, and maintain costly stadiums. For far too long, this shameless giveaway has left city budgets in ruins while showering the franchise owners with hundreds of millions in corporate welfare.

Sports franchises and their stadiums are a very emotional subject for many Americans. Love of the game and pride in their cities, the trophies in the box and the envy of the nation bind them close to our hearts. Unfortunately, a loophole in laws regulating government bonds for public works has allowed the billionaire franchise owners to hold city governments hostage unless their taxpayers and fans shell out millions to build or renovate the stadiums on top of the exorbitant prices one must pay for tickets, jerseys, and eight dollar Bud lights. In a recent example, the Atlanta Braves just moved to Cobb County after prodding a bidding war with Atlanta for renovations; they finally got $397 million from Cobb, most of which will come from taxpayers.

President Obama’s not having it any more. In a small article placed in his 2016 budget proposal, he called for ending tax-free government bonds for sports facilities, which have cost taxpayers $4 billion over the past thirty years. Republicans, of course, have immediately refused to pass it because it would mean the franchises would have to pay taxes on it like the rest of us, which they see as just more “big government” restricting businesses. In reality, they just protecting a significant source of campaign donations- over a quarter million dollars to Republican candidates in the last year alone- and it’s common sense to lift such a burden off the taxpayers; as sports economist John Vrooman puts it, “Pres. Obama ends up being the fiscally conservative responsible adult.”.

“..There’s a place in hell for women who don’t help other women…” – Madeleine Albright former Sec. of State said as she campaigned for Hillary in New Hampshire today alongside Cory Booker…

    LOL..

Cory Booker…? Didn’t realize Cory Booker was still alive or still in the Senate…We haven’t seen or heard from the only black person in the Senate since the 2012 elections when he came out of hibernation to contradict President Obama and effusively defend Wall Street – his benefactors…

We haven’t heard much from him since – nothing as black kids and women are murdered in cold blood at the hands of police…He slips back into slippery silence mode…conveniently mute and playing hide and seek with black voters who forget there’s a black Senator who will get mad enough in defense of the plutocrats who fund him, but have no opinion about anything concerning black folks…

But today, Cory Booker is once again out of hibernation…

He’s out in New Hampshire singing loudly for his political future and his supper…He’s out there slogging away campaigning for Hillary …

    Told you fam…

When was the last time you saw our only black Senator anywhere – or heard him speak up about anything..? And when was the last time you saw a former Sec. of State out on the campaign trail desperate and threatening people to vote or else…

But there they all are in New Hampshire out on the campaign trail mixing with the serfs – during a freaking Primary – and only the second State in ….a Primary that was so in your face rigged from the start – not only to give their preferred and entitled candidate every advantage, but to blatantly set her up for a coronation…

But even with all that, their preferred candidate with every single advantage, can’t cut it even against a bloody no-name, rumpled Senator from Vermont…

And dear Ms Albright…Ain’t Mrs Obama a woman ….Where have you all been these past 8 years even as some of you own actively attacked, disrespected and dehumanized her…Not a peep from you oh wise woman…

The first black First Lady could have used some of that ‘sisterhood’ faux-wisdom and faux-support you all are now pushing to try to guilt foolish women into backing and rallying for Hillary – don’t ya think Madeleine..?

hat if sportswriters discussed Peyton Manning’s whiteness like they discuss Cam Newton’s blackness?
    by Miriti Murungi

This Sunday’s Super Bowl will be a stern test for Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, who will not only face the Panthers, but also have to contend with the ever-present shadow of the white quarterbacks who’ve successfully led their teams to Super Bowl glory.

As we close in on the NFL’s 50th showcase event, it’s worth considering the burden of carrying the legacy of white success at the quarterback position. Only 28 white quarterbacks have managed to win the Super Bowl. The official list (excluding Peyton and his biological brother Eli, who is also white) includes Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Len Dawson, Johnny Unitas, Roger Staubach, Bob Griese, Terry Bradshaw, Ken Stabler, Joe Montana, Joe Theismann, Jim McMahon, Phil Simms, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Brett Favre, John Elway (perhaps the most celebrated white quarterback in the league’s history), Kurt Warner, Trent Dilfer, Tom Brady, Brad Johnson, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Joe Flacco.

The one issue neither Democratic candidate has *really* talked about

by LOLGOP on FEBRUARY 6, 2016 in 2016

Racism must be called by name if we want to undo the damage of conservative policies

Call it karma. Call it poetic justice. But definitely don’t ignore it.

Non-white voters will decide who becomes the Democratic nominee for president. And non-white voters will decide who the next president of the United States will be.

Former senior advisor to President Obama Dan Pfeiffer calls this quote from Dan Ballz “almost all you need to know” about the 2016 election:

The Democratic primary has already turned out to be historic. Either the first woman or the first Jewish person ever won the Iowa caucuses. Both candidates are angling to out-progressive each other as Bernie Sanders is making the first full-throated case for single-payer health care by any major candidate in American history.

And this is happening as the uninsured rate is at an all-time low with 9 out of 10 Americans insured.

China group to buy Chicago Stock Exchange

    by Matt Egan @mattmegan5

    February 5, 2016: 4:08 PM ET

One of America’s oldest stock exchanges has just been sold to China.

The 134-year-old Chicago Stock Exchange reached a deal on Friday to be acquired by a Chinese-led group of investors.

The purchase by Chongqing Casin Enterprise Group is the latest U.S. investment made by China and would give the country a foothold in the vast American stock market.

The struggling Chicago Stock Exchange is a very small player in the exchange world whose presence is overshadowed by Nasdaq (NDAQ), the iconic New York Stock Exchange and newer entrants.

As of January, the Chicago Stock Exchange handled just 0.5% of U.S. trading, making it the third-smallest U.S. exchange, according to TABB Group.
