Hello 3 Chics family! This week’s featured artist is the incomparable Mr. Jimi Hendrix.
November 27th, 1942 – September 18, 1970
Widely recognized as one of the most creative and influential musicians of the 20th century, Jimi Hendrix pioneered the explosive possibilities of the electric guitar. Hendrix’s innovative style of combining fuzz, feedback and controlled distortion created a new musical form. Because he was unable to read or write music, it is nothing short of remarkable that Jimi Hendrix’s meteoric rise in the music took place in just four short years. His musical language continues to influence a host of modern musicians, from George Clinton to Miles Davis, and Steve Vai to Jonny Lang.
Jimi Hendrix, born Johnny Allen Hendrix at 10:15 a.m. on November 27, 1942, at Seattle’s King County Hospital, was later renamed James Marshall by his father, James “Al” Hendrix. Young Jimmy (as he was referred to at the time) took an interest in music, drawing influence from virtually every major artist at the time, including B.B. King, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Holly, and Robert Johnson. Entirely self-taught, Jimmy’s inability to read music made him concentrate even harder on the music he heard.
Al took notice of Jimmy’s interest in the guitar, recalling, “I used to have Jimmy clean up the bedroom all the time while I was gone, and when I would come home I would find a lot of broom straws around the foot of the bed. I’d say to him, `Well didn’t you sweep up the floor?’ and he’d say, `Oh yeah,’ he did. But I’d find out later that he used to be sitting at the end of the bed there and strumming the broom like he was playing a guitar.” Al found an old one-string ukulele, which he gave to Jimmy to play a huge improvement over the broom.
By the summer of 1958, Al had purchased Jimmy a five-dollar, second-hand acoustic guitar from one of his friends. Shortly thereafter, Jimmy joined his first band, The Velvetones. After a three-month stint with the group, Jimmy left to pursue his own interests. The following summer, Al purchased Jimmy his first electric guitar, a Supro Ozark 1560S; Jimi used it when he joined The Rocking Kings.
In 1961, Jimmy left home to enlist in the United States Army and in November 1962 earned the right to wear the “Screaming Eagles” patch for the paratroop division. While stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Jimmy formed The King Casuals with bassist Billy Cox. After being discharged due to an injury he received during a parachute jump, Jimmy began working as a session guitarist under the name Jimmy James. By the end of 1965, Jimmy had played with several marquee acts, including Ike and Tina Turner, Sam Cooke, the Isley Brothers, and Little Richard. Jimmy parted ways with Little Richard to form his own band, Jimmy James and the Blue Flames, shedding the role of back-line guitarist for the spotlight of lead guitar.
Throughout the latter half of 1965, and into the first part of 1966, Jimmy played the rounds of smaller venues throughout Greenwich Village, catching up with Animals’ bassist Chas Chandler during a July performance at Caf‚ Wha? Chandler was impressed with Jimmy’s performance and returned again in September 1966 to sign Hendrix to an agreement that would have him move to London to form a new band.

Interesting photo. I guess you have to put it in context. JFK’s predecessor was Dwight Eisenhower, so yeah, Kennedy was hot by comparison. In fact, a hot president was totally new.
I suppose you’ve got a point…I just can’t wrap my head around the whole slobbering over a politician…any politician…and especially not a married one…
And in this case, it only probably heightened JFK’s predilections..

And more importantly, just how much we can’t afford to have anyone even remotely affiliated to the Bush family anywhere near the White House ever again…and especially not his brother Jeb!
You know, try as they may to spin it, when George Bush, visiting Haiti with Bill Clinton, wiped his hand on the sly on Clinton’s back after shaking hands with the locals…if anyone still had any doubt about what a skunk Bush is…that moment should have completely erased any assignment of marginal goodness or decency to that man..

At some point, we seriously need to stop failing people upwards – really..
Stop embracing and advocating for people who selectively and craftily play up and exploit their similar racial identity when it suits them – and only to serve and advance themselves and their own political purposes –
And who in reality, have had many opportunities to do better by the black folks they court and play, to to win elections, but who they’ve time and again failed…not only on the big issues, but on the small ones too…Often ignoring the most pressing problems…the huge elephants in the room – mostly their key duties too, while they chase after some random ‘win’ on some matter of nominal importance that has nothing to do with anything really…
If Marilyn Mosby at barely 30+ …and just starting off in her career…is bold, courageous and honorable enough to put it all on the line to serve, and to do the right thing by the poor, oppressed and downtrodden, putting all these self-aggrandizing and perpetually touted political opportunists to shame…I have little use and patience for the opportunistic, mealy-mouthing, artful dodgers, who’re only in politics for themselves and not to serve – and who see appointments and elections to higher officer as vanity contests – an ego booster…and more importantly, a guaranteed wealth and influence booster…And more often than not, neither the wealth or influence amassed in the process is put to good use to help the downtrodden..or black folks in general..
Let’s stop touting or fighting for these frankly disappointing losers who’ve shown us time and again who they really are – and what they’re really about…and how little they care once in the position – that is, until they’re ready to move up to the next political offering…

Where to start…?
The Democratic Party has to start walking the walk and stop embodying all that’s worst about our politics…
Nepotism, promoting mediocrity, strong-arming, kneecapping and closing ranks for undeserving, hand-picked candidates, coronations..
It’s the slightly the same problem we’re seeing with Hillary, except that with Kamala Harris, there’s no there, there..
If dating the despicable and corrupt opportunist Willie Brown – who launches your political career – and continues to play interference on your behalf to this day, is the basis for any woman being deemed politically ‘successful’ or ‘smart’, then we’re in bigger doo-doo than we ever imagined..
This woman has done precious nothing and just keeps jumping to the next opening…Doesn’t help that the only other Establishment Democrats on offer are fellow lightweights Gavin Newsom – so slimy that his ‘judgement’ or lack thereof can be summed up by his choice of right-wing opportunist Kimberly Guilfoyle now of FOX news as wife initially, and then having an affair with his ‘appointment secretary’ who also just happened to be the wife of his best friend and campaign manager – ….Or Antonio Villagoroisa whose wife divorced him after his sordid affair with a local newscaster blew up..
These folks are already ineffective, mostly shallow, dumb as rocks political opportunists…and throw in the ugly scandals that betrays their base nature and lack of integrity, discipline and decency – and no decent, thinking person in their right mind would want them at the helm of anything – not even a night club..
Running for office has to be much more than getting ahead or about blind ambition, opportunism, self-serving…or looks and personality…usually choreographed and contrived…and has to be more about service especially on behalf of the least of us – and service in it’s truest sense …
And at some point it has to be more than just playing to the wealthy, powerful, organized groups who are able to withhold contributions – or pour a lot of money into campaigns for preferred candidates who’ve delivered for their pet causes…And right now, the most effective groups doing that successfully are groups that represent the LGBT community…so poor black and brown folks are completely out of luck…
So as black and brown kids are dying at the hands of police, we can’t have the elected attorney general – who barely got elected the first time – and who with absolutely no challenge or competition the second time around, barely scraped a bit over 50% of votes in a blue state and in one of the lowest turn-outs of eligible registered voters – 13%…
..Can’t have the attorney general dodging and shirking her responsibilities especially to innocent black folks being murdered daily at the hands of police …too cowardly to speak up – or do sh*t because she has her eyes on the next opening…a Senate seat – and doesn’t want to rock the boat or do or say anything that’ll jeopardize her chances…And so it goes…nothing gets done and they keep jumping from one wrung to the one next up…afraid to upset the apple cart and the deep pockets who fund them…
So they run around touting their great relationship with the wealthy and massively influential LGBT community …and they’ll tout some random study or other they commissioned – or jump on the commitment to recidivism reduction bandwagon that was already long in the works before she showed up…Meanwhile the kids are dying and she dare not upset the police union…
At some point, delivering and success has to mean much more than riding the float at Pride parades…

“…Shortly after California Attorney General Kamala Harris announced she was running to fill Barbara Boxer’s U.S. Senate seat in 2016, several prominent Democrats rushed to her side.
That’s fine. People are allowed to support anyone they like in a race, and Harris is an impressive and eloquent candidate.
What’s not fine at all, however, is for Harris’ supporters to shut down other viable candidates before they are even candidates.
That’s why we are more than a little offended at the suggestion by former Assembly Speaker and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown that former Assembly Speaker and Los Angeles Mayor (and, perhaps now, former friend) Antonio Villaraigosa ought to sit out the Senate race. Brown is supporting Harris.
Villaraigosa, who left public office in 2012, has not yet announced whether he will run for the seat, though he is widely expected to do so. And why not? His political résumé is solid. Though he’s had some personal challenges ending in a divorce, he had measurable policy accomplishments in America’s second-largest city and is well-known in Washington, D.C.
In exchange for bowing out, “I am hopeful that his candidacy will be rewarded with a statewide office – at some point,” Brown told Sacramento Bee reporter Christopher Cadelago. In other words, the 62-year-old should just sit down and wait his turn.
This rush to rally around Harris has annoyed some Latino politicos, especially as the population of Latinos in the state grows. Besides Villaraigosa, there are other qualified Latino Senate candidates including McClatchy High graduate Rep. Xavier Becerra and Rep. Loretta Sanchez.
Yes, we know political machines seek to manipulate the process, selecting candidates and deciding whose turn it is in any given race…”

“…Former Assembly Speaker Willie Brown suggested Friday that Antonio Villaraigosa should pass on the U.S. Senate race out of loyalty to his friend and fellow Democrat Kamala Harris, the only announced candidate for the 2016 contest.
“His loyalty and his relationship with her should be so valuable, and he should, in my opinion, see it as an opportunity to demonstrate that,” Brown told The Bee in brief comments outside the Ben Ali Shrine Center in Sacramento, where he appeared for a workshop on card room regulations.
A spokesman for Villaraigosa declined to comment.
Harris, the state’s attorney general and a former San Francisco district attorney, had a personal relationship with Brown.
“I am hopeful that his candidacy will be rewarded with a statewide office – at some point,” Brown said.
His comments come days after a rare break in the state’s political logjam. Earlier this month, U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer announced that she would not seek a fifth term when her seat comes open in two years.
Villaraigosa signaled his interest in the post soon after, and within days Harris became the first and only candidate so far to officially wade into the race.
John Burton, the state Democratic Party chairman, was decidedly more blunt when asked if party leaders are trying to clear the field for Harris.
“Bull—-,” said Burton, a former state and federal lawmaker.
“When I ran – whatever the hell I ran for – I got (into the races) early,” he said. “And getting out early is good, but it doesn’t guarantee anything.”
Burton said people are entitled to their opinions. “I can see how some people feel,” he said. But he downplayed Harris’ early support from Democratic U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Cory Booker of New Jersey and Kirsten Gillibrand of New York.
Reflecting on other manoeuvrings since Boxer’s announcement, Brown said Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom’s decision not to challenge for the seat was “smart.” As for his opinion about a possible clash between Newsom and billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer in the next gubernatorial election more than three years away?
“That’s always a possibility; people are gonna say what they are gonna run,” Brown said. “But we’ll see when it happens.”

Some details of his final hours at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a luxury compound less than an hour from the Mexican border, remain opaque: “As late as Sunday afternoon, there were conflicting reports about whether an autopsy would be performed, though officials later said Scalia’s body was being embalmed and there would be no autopsy. One report, by WFAA-TV in Dallas, said the death certificate would show the cause of the death was a heart attack.”

Justice Antonin Scalia is dead.
Clarence Darrow supposedly said that:
“All men have an emotion to kill; when they strongly dislike some one they involuntarily wish he was dead. I have never killed any one, but I have read some obituary notices with great satisfaction.”
I echo his sentiments.

Dropped the ball? Naw. My opinion is that a different set of rules apply to the Peyton Mannings of the NFL. Shaun King’s article is unbelievable, absolutely scathing, and based on court documents that were available 13 years ago, obtained by USA Today. USA Today wrote about the case against Manning, and it went unnoticed.
The article went ‘UNNOTICED’ INTENTIONALLY.
Oh, yeah, you bet it did. But now that another lawsuit has been filed, I kind of think it is going to be difficult for Archie and the entire sports world to protect Baby Peyton this time. Word is out.

‘My demons won today’: Ohio activist’s suicide spotlights depression among Black Lives Matter leaders

A solemn group stood in the shadow of the statehouse in Columbus, Ohio, forming a circle on the snow-caked sidewalk. MarShawn McCarrel, 23, a well-known Black Lives Matter activist, had taken his own life on the statehouse steps. Now his friends had come together in his memory.
As evening turned to night last week, protest organizer Rashida Davidson, 25, recounted the personal toll of two years of activism: Trouble sleeping. Bouts of anxiety. Feelings of despair.
“This is really getting to us,” Davidson said. “And if MarShawn’s death does not show that… I don’t know what else we need to tell or show to say that this is really going on.”
Since he died early last week, news of McCarrel’s suicide has rocked the national police protest movement, forcing a round of introspection about a reality that predates the seminal 2014 shooting of a black teenager in Ferguson, Mo.: Some of the most prominent activists and organizers are battling not only the system, but depression.
In Oakland, Calif., a prominent activist posted the phone number for a suicide prevention hotline on her Facebook page. In Cleveland, a lead organizer confessed on Facebook that he, too, had tried to take his own life. Dozens of others have shared stories of their battles with depression, anxiety and insecurity on Twitter.
“In the movement you’re just constantly engaging in black death, seeing the communal impact,” said Jonathan Butler, the University of Missouri graduate student whose hunger strike last fall led to the resignation of the school’s president. “You’re being faced with the reality that I’m more likely to be killed by the police, that I’m being discriminated against. You start to see all of the micro-aggressions.

at the RACISTS/RACISM, and take it on in our mental, causal, and emotional bodies. Our physical bodies take the hit too, in the form of high blood pressure and a host of other debilitating illnesses.
There is a lot of mental illness out there too…All one has to do is to try reading twitter..
The advent of social media has empowered people in good ways and bad…And so often, there are those who aren’t mentally equipped to take on some of the stuff they’ve convinced themselves or have been convinced to get on board with…advocacy and empowerment are great, but not necessarily for people with mental issues..
We have to be really careful who we egg on – and how we egg them on..
