Washington (CNN)—Vice President Joe Biden offered effusive praise for Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders Monday, lauding Hillary Clinton’s chief rival for doing a “heck of a job” on the campaign trail and praising Sanders for offering an authentic voice on income inequality.

And while Biden said Democrats had a slate of “great candidates” running for president, he suggested Clinton was a newcomer to issues like the growing gap between rich and poor.

“Bernie is speaking to a yearning that is deep and real. And he has credibility on it,” Biden said during an interview with CNN chief political analyst Gloria Borger.

“It’s relatively new for Hillary to talk about that,” Biden continued, acknowledging that Clinton has “come forward with some really thoughtful approaches to deal with the issue” of income inequality.

“Hillary’s focus has been other things up to now, and that’s been Bernie’s — no one questions Bernie’s authenticity on those issues,” he said.

      Brzezinski then tried to ask Scarborough about a question she planned to ask Trump, trying to be discrete but eventually giving away the subject. “Do you not want me to do, the um, the ones with, um, deportation?”

      “We really do have to go to some questions,” Scarborough responded.

      “That’s right,” Trump agreed, before joking, “Nothing too hard, Mika.”

      “Okay,” Brzezinski can be heard telling someone. In the end, there were no questions about immigration or deportations during the town hall. At the same time, Scarborough can be heard discussing potential questions with a producer, and Trump makes a comment indicating he can’t hear what they’re talking about.

      Saban said that fundamentalist Iranians represent a real threat. If necessary to defend Israel, and as a last resort, he added, “I would bomb the living daylights out of the sons of bitches.”

      Saban endorsed a bill from Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.), who addressed the group on Saturday night, that would subject any Iranian nuclear deal to congressional approval. Saban said a system of checks and balances with the Obama administration on foreign policy is critical.

      Saban used dark humor to spin last week’s Democratic wipeout in the midterm elections. “Do you know the movie ‘Life of Brian,’ by Monty Python? While they’re being crucified, they’re singing, ‘Always look at the bright side of life,’ ” Saban said in the interview, playfully humming along as he recited the movie tune.

    Which means she was 11 years old during the Tulsa race riots; an act of terrorism that burned the Greenwood District — the wealthiest Black community in the country (aka “Black Wall Street”) — to the ground. 39 people were “officially” killed then. And “officially” is in quotes because other estimates place the death toll at closer to 300.

    She was five when the Ku Klux Klan reemerged after launching in the 1860s and being largely dismantled by the federal government in 1871. She was also alive during the Great Migration, existed at a time when lynchings were frequent and weren’t just quasi legal but were actually carried out by lawmakers, and was solidly into middle age when Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka finally declared segregation unconstitutional.

    Everything we’ve read in history books (including things we didn’t learn until adulthood because they weren’t in any of our history books), seen in documentaries, and heard about from grandparents, great aunts, and great uncles about the plight of Black Americans in the early 20th century was lived through by her. Her life is a history. Her very existence a relic. She is a living heirloom; her every breath a testimony; a sermon proselytizing the agony and the beauty of our collective and continued struggle.

    So imagine the feeling this dear woman must have felt when invited to the White House to meet our Black president. Imagine the joy shooting through her skin when touching Barack’s hand and seeing Michelle. Picture the jubilance and mirth permeating her 106-year-old veins and joints and bones when dancing with the Black first family. Think of the glee coursing through her spirit when close enough to sense and smell the scent of Barack’s aftershave and Michelle’s shea butter.     Sanders makes surprise visit to Sunday church supper

    West Columbia, South Carolina (CNN)—Brookland Baptist Church’s congregation had a surprise visitor Sunday afternoon when Sen. Bernie Sanders popped in for an unexpected stop during Sunday supper here in West Columbia.

    The Democratic presidential candidate, coming off a loss to Hillary Clinton Saturday in Nevada, worked the mostly African-American crowd, stopping to shake hands, take photos and hug a few small children who ventured up to him.

    Sanders, campaigning in the Palmetto State ahead of Saturday’s upcoming primary, was joined at the church by his wife, Jane, and also Ben Jealous, the former NAACP head who has endorsed Sanders.

    After mingling for a bit, Jealous introduced Sanders to the crowd as people milled around with plates of food.

    “This is the most important place in the country right now,” Jealous told the crowd of a couple hundred people. “And you are the most important voters in the country right now. And there are people who will say to you, there’s a dreamer who’s running for president. And his dreams are so big, y’all shouldn’t dream that big. But in our community when they say, ‘Don’t dream big,’ we say, ‘Yes we can.’ And so I ask you ladies and gentlemen, are you ready to dream big?”

    Before handing off the mic, he evoked Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., saying that there is no one in either party who is ready to fight racism, militarism and greed like Sanders.

    “This is America, we should not be having more people in jail, largely African-American and Latino, than any other country on earth. So one of the points I have tried to make, we are going to invest in education and jobs … not more jails, not more incarceration,” Sanders said.

        Ms. Tamron et al really should be talking about how Bernie Sanders came from nowhere with very little name recognition outside of Vermont and the northeast perhaps, and is giving the old war horse a run for her money.

        This proves beyond all doubt that the Democratic base wanted a choice, a contest, a race, a competition, an alternative to the hand picked, party leadership favorite. Dammit, this ain’t North Korea, it’s America.

        But I’ve got to say, what the Clintons are doing right now to court the black vote, their firewall, is making me sick. And those who go along with this are sell outs, and they sell out cheap, and I have no respect for them. Every last one of them needs to go back to Government 101 class and give some serious thought to what a democracy is supposed to be. And those who act in any way to make this country less democratic are diminishing the contribution and sacrifice of every American who believed in a free nation with equality and justice for all. They might think they are doing nothing wrong, that it is no big deal, but it is. Their nonsense adds up, and the sum of it hurts the nation.

        Hillary Clinton is not a good candidate. Period. And she should not be the successor of President Barack Obama. Too much has been achieved to risk it on her.

          I remember her well as I do so many others from PUMA 2008…and though she later ‘came on board’ in her own ho-hum way…but only after running her own version of shenanigans and hostile surrogacy and interference on Hillary’s behalf…She did end up the beneficiary of the President’s graciousness on several occasions since…even when I didn’t think she was always deserving…

          Being a ‘civil rights leader’ does not make one infallible – or always deserving of turning a blind eye to ones shenanigans or poor, shady and disappointing behavior…not to me at least…

          Makes one wonder sometimes about some of these ‘leaders’ and their stories – and how much revising and re-telling we’re been sold…now that so many others are dead – and few and fewer were witness…

    Conservative leaders are sending a blunt message to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: The Supreme Court is more important than your majority.

    McConnell’s (R-Ky.) top priority since becoming majority leader last year has been to put his colleagues in a strong position to win reelection, in part by showing that Republicans can govern.

    But bottling up President Obama’s nominee to replace the late conservative Justice Antonin Scalia could bring the work of the chamber to a screeching halt, if Democrats choose to retaliate.

    Conservatives say that’s the risk McConnell has to take.

    Taking action on a Supreme Court nominee — even through the Judiciary Committee — when Obama has less than a year left in his term would be a cardinal sin, conservative activists say.

    They argue the ideological balance of the court is so important that it’s not worth playing political games to take the pressure off vulnerable Republican incumbents.

    “I would rank having a conservative justice as more important than having the majority in the Senate,” said David Bozell, president of For America, a conservative advocacy group. “God knows this Republican majority in the Senate hasn’t done much anyway for conservatism, period.

    “If you look at some of the conservative movement’s successes, it’s in large part due to the court doing some decent things and making some good decisions,” he added.

    With South Carolina and Super Tuesday looming ahead, Bernie Sanders’ campaign is fast approaching an expiration date.

    Not only will the revolution not be televised—at least in the case of Senator Bernie Sanders—it appears to have an expiration date.
    Despite collecting millions in small-dollar donations and packing thousands of people into arenas around the country, despite topping Hillary Clinton for the first time in a national poll of likely Democratic voters, the path to victory has narrowed sharply for Sanders. Some would argue that a window of opportunity slammed shut Sunday night in Nevada and that the upcoming race in South Carolina is the proverbial kitty-bar.
    Sanders may well have the volunteers and the money to keep going, but after March 15 he’ll have to grapple with a new set of questions. Does he still have the ability to push Clinton further left? And he can he bring enough new voters into the process to exert any real influence?
