Who else as Sec. of State, set up a private server in her home to utilize for ALL official business and communications even after her boss the President, had specifically as an admin policy, instructed staff to utilize govt-issued e-mails in conducting govt business at all times…and which hypocritical SoS relieved a Diplomat under her charge, of his position for the offense of utilizing a private home server and personal e-mail in executing his official duties..?
What other candidate is insisting that she’s for the people and cannot be bought, and that she will prioritize reining in Wall Street, its executives and their excesses, while taking a quarter of a million dollar per speech and giving over 6 speeches in a space of 7 months to the very same Wall Street execs.. – and just months before she officially launched her presidential campaign…
Which other candidate has a family foundation that has accepted 100’s of millions of dollars from Wall Street and foreign governments – including some led by dictators and others with dubious reputations and histories of human rights violations…And whose husband has also received millions of dollars in speaking fees and other fees for ‘introducing’ and ‘recommending’ dubious businessmen to foreign nations to secure contracts…

Police brutality isn’t standard sitcom fare.
Nor is it treated as such in Wednesday’s episode of ABC comedy Black-ish (9:30 p.m. ET/PT), which centers on an affluent African-American family living in a mostly white neighborhood.
The episode, titled “Hope,” doesn’t chase headlines so much as it explores how parents often struggle to talk to their kids about life’s thornier issues — in this case, a fictional news story about an unarmed black teenager selling DVDs who is tased dozens of times by a cop.
The episode was inspired by a real-life predicament that creator Kenya Barris faced in late 2014, watching the news with his family when riots broke out in Ferguson, Mo., after police officer Darren Wilson was not indicted for the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown.

The mainstream media must identify the real American government and Supreme Court “hostage takers:” the Koch brothers
Only an American in a coma for the past seven-plus years was surprised at the immediate Republican response to the death of a Koch-acolyte serving on the Supreme Court last week. Of course Republicans announced they would obstruct President Obama’s attempt to fulfill his Constitutional duty to nominate a replacement for Antonin Scalia; anything less would have been Earth-shattering news indeed. What has been curious is the media, liberal pundits, and other politicians focused rage and analysis on Senate Republicans’ “violating Senate protocol and the Constitution” by claiming a sitting President is prohibited from nominating a Supreme Court Justice; Republicans do nothing of their own volition.
The Republican obstruction of this president is historic and remarkable, but this latest incident is entirely different. No matter what their stated reasoning, or how much it violates the clear intent of the Constitution, this particular intent to obstruct is entirely in service of the Koch brothers; the true Republican Party. The apropos question should be not whether Republican obstruction is unconstitutional or just despicably partisan, but why they are doing it and whose interests are they serving.

Conceived as a result of a love affair between her mother and an Air Force flight line worker named Bill Miller in the 1960s, Wendy Spencer of Carmichael, California, always wondered about her biological father, who disappeared shortly after she was born. Did he have the same brown eyes and dark wavy hair as she did? Did he have other children? Was he still alive?
In October 2014, Wendy, 50, a hair stylist, learned that a friend had recently ordered an extensive DNA profile through 23andMe, a personal genomics and biotech company, so she decided to do the same out of curiosity, thinking she might at least find out more about her mother’s ancestry.
Several weeks later, when her online results came back, nothing could have prepared her for the shock of seeing a photograph of Bill Miller pop up along with the word, “father,” signifying that he was her best DNA match.
More startling news was to come. Wendy, who is Jewish, soon learned that her father had controversial theories that she considered racist. And Bill Miller’s father, Emmett Elliot Miller (Wendy’s paternal grandfather, now deceased), was a grand wizard in the Ku Klux Klan, who had been involved in a bombing attempt at an all-black college in Little Rock in 1960.
For Wendy, whose husband, Victor Spencer, is black (they have four children), the unsettling revelation has caused anxiety and sleepless nights. But she is slowly working on building a relationship with Bill, 74, who is retired with no other children and living alone in Del Rio, Texas. And Bill is trying to make amends with his past and embrace the only family that he has.
“I didn’t wait all these years to find my dad, only to discard him,” Wendy tells PEOPLE exclusively, sharing her story for the first time. “With every relationship, no matter how imperfect that love is, it’s better to have it than not have it at all. You can’t choose your family. Hopefully, my dad will see that we’re not the people he was taught about and has carried in his mind his whole life.”
Her father says he doesn’t feel a need to apologize for his beliefs. “Was I surprised when I learned that my grandkids and my son-in-law were black? You bet,” Bill Miller tells PEOPLE. “It was a shocker. Yeah, it was hard. But after it soaked in for a while, I realized that Wendy’s kids are definitely superior. Nobody can use a racist-type formula on those kids.”

Victor Spencer, 53, a sales manager for a fitness center, listened quietly while Wendy told him what she’d learned about Bill.
After Wendy found her father, “I was glad for her, that she would finally fill a void in her life,” he tells PEOPLE. “I told her because her grandfather had committed these acts, it was no reason to hold it against Bill.”
But when his father-in-law flew to California for his first visit in December 2014, it was clear that he and Bill wouldn’t hit it off, Victor says.
“I invited him to breakfast and he used racial slurs and made derogatory statements,” he says. “When I confronted him, he defended himself and said, ‘People need to calm down and get over it.’ I have no time or patience for someone like that, but his existence is important to my wife, so I let it be.”
“What Emmett did sickens me and destroys Wendy to some degree because she wanted so much to belong to something and someone and this is what she found,” Victor adds. “Bill carries the legacy and evidence of Emmett even though he believes he is much different.”

Although the relationship is fragile, Wendy’s children are trying their best to understand the new person who suddenly appeared in their lives.
“The whole process has been quite unique,” Cosette, 22, tells PEOPLE. “My ancestors have no bearing on who I am, so I wasn’t mortified to find out about my great-grandpa. It’s a bit ironic, thinking that a man with white supremacist ideals has a Jewish and black lineage. My grandpa and I may not see eye-to-eye on everything, but I’ve been able to have many bonding moments. I know that he loves us and see us for who we are.”
Michael Spencer, who at 29, is Bill’s oldest grandson, shared a bottle of tequila with his grandfather when he visited and hopes to continue building a bond. “I would like to get to know him better,” he says. “I cannot judge my grandfather for the sins of his father.

The White House is considering Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, a Republican centrist, as a potential nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, NBC News has confirmed.
Sandoval, a former District Court judge and state attorney general, was the first Latino candidate elected to statewide office in Nevada.
While he is a Republican, Sandoval’s record does match President Barack Obama’s on many key issues. He has said he supports the Supreme Court’s same sex marriage decision of last year and backs abortion rights.
However, Sandoval also signed into law last year a measure that exempts school construction projects from having to pay contractors wages considered industry standard in the area. While he hailed the move as a cost cutting measure, labor unions rallied to decry the effort.
The Washington Post first reported that Sandoval is under consideration.

In the fall of 2004, Democratic Senator Harry Reid spoke with Sandoval about whether he was interested in serving as a judge for the United States District Court for the District of Nevada, and that December Reid recommended to President George W. Bush he nominate Sandoval to a future opening on that court. Sandoval was formally nominated by Bush on March 1, 2005, to the seat being vacated by Judge Howard D. McKibben.
On September 29, 2005, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a confirmation hearing on Sandoval’s nomination. On October 20, 2005, the Judiciary committee reported Sandoval’s nomination out of committee on a voice vote. Sandoval was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 24, 2005, by a vote of 89–0 (with 11 Senators not voting). Sandoval then received his judicial commission on October 26, 2005.

Of course, not everyone who believes Trump’s message is aware of its racial implications.
I disagree with you. They know the racial implications and could care less.
For some — specifically working class Whites — it is truly about a return to the days of “Leave it to Beaver,” where everyone had a job, everyone had a status, and everyone had a place.
It was the era of ‘ All you had to be was WHITE’. Didn’t have to be educated White. Just White. Where you could go and get a job where you could support a family in a decent lifestyle….because, all you had to be was White.
You know, Government Jobs.
Police men.
Firemen.
For Generations, all you had to be was White and 18. Didn’t even have to have a high school diploma.
Notice after the suits to force the hiring of Non-Whites, that ‘suddenly’, all these NEW requirements were places on the application.
A purpose. But, as Slate’s Ben Mathis-Lilley articulates, that great society was made possible because of discrimination, not in spite of it. Whites had so much free stuff because we had none of it, so there was more to go around.
I call it longing for the delusional world of Mad Men: where they pretend like they were big fish in a big pond, when, in actuality, they were fish in a pond where 90% of the rest of the fish were shoved into sardine cans.
Now, the cans are open, and the rest of the fish are like. ‘phuck you – we’re not about to go back in’.

Barbara Billingsley, “June Cleaver” Dies: The Symbology of an Era Gone By

Interesting post, Ametia. Of course, we know now that June Cleaver was miserable, she was sick and tired of doing the same thing day after day, she dreamed of a life that was more fulfilling, having a job, getting out of the house more often, etc.. She probably hated those dresses and high heels and pearls too.
It is surreal to me as well. The Cleavers represented the American dream, the sector of white America that did well in the post WWII economic expansion. The nice suburban house, nice furniture and decor, the husband with a good job, the stay at home mom, two cars in the driveway, etc…
I think there were people who tried to live this way and perhaps some succeeded, or think they have. I see it as kind of a brain dead way of life. It requires total self absorption, and a kind of tunnel vision that keeps the whole world out of your field of view. Most people fail at this, despite their best efforts. Life is just too full of the unknown, the tragedies, the accidents, the deaths, the wars, and the forces of nature that no one escapes except maybe those who die young.
June Cleaver may have symbolized an era, but it was an era that didn’t really exist. It was more of a yearning, an imagined way of life for those seeking relief from reality.

That is just the end of the article but is that what you are going for? A recognition that women of color are gaining in power in elections, so much so that the outcome is likely to depend on them? I would say that with that power comes responsibility. Not to be a faithful loyalist to the party and automatically cheer for their hand picked favorite, but like the article says, to look out for their own interests and those of their families and communities. And to consider the overall direction of the nation, to do their part to ensure that the US is a responsible world citizen and so forth. But the black community’s issues are so close to home that those must be considered first, the way I see it. Like walking or breathing while black shouldn’t get you killed, for example.
What are your thoughts? You have a great idea here about an open letter. Miss Elli could probably write it in ten minutes if we get it organized.

We’ve got both genders out there SKINNI’, GRINNI’, BUCK DANCIN’ & SHUFFLIN’
My evidence is anecdotal, but I’m seeing a lot of comments from black folks who identify strongly with the Democratic party. For some, maybe a lot of these folks, it is about being a Democrat. Bernie isn’t a Democrat, they say, and the Clintons are. Democrats stick together and so on. Some of these people are not giving this issue any thought beyond just that. They aren’t interested in hearing that Bill Clinton’s legislation in the 90s f***ed them over while Hillary cheered him on. For some strange reason, that doesn’t matter because THEY ARE DEMOCRATS. Maybe these are the types Ms. Eliihaas says are too far gone.
But the Democratic party has always caucused with and counted Bernie as one of their own traditionally and for all these years…and they’ve never doubted his heart or loyalty – or had to wonder about his commitment or worried about not having his vote…Yes he always wanted to go even further than what the usually watered down stuff presented by Dems to be voted on …
The Democratic party has had him on their behalf, chair committees in the Senate and be the senior ‘Dem’ on committees too..
They welcomed him with open hands when he entered the race as a Democrat – and even sent out enthusiastic fundraising mailers asking us to welcome him and support him in his run…
I doubt very much Bernie Sanders entered the race as Democrat without consulting with and getting buy in from the entire Dem party Hierarchy…DNC, DSCC, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Reid, Schumer, Pelosi etc..
It says much more about the Democratic party and its ‘leaders’, that when their dubious plan to use a grown man as a foil to their coronation of their preferred candidate fails, they resort to petty, childish, slanderous and malicious taunts and slights to take him down…
I think they’ll really come to regret what they tried to do to this man in the end…No differnet really from what they tried to do – and would have done to Joe Biden when the thought he might run and mess stuff up for their girl…
I see another worrisome issue regarding Hillary’s pandering to the mothers of murdered black children and young adults. Do these black women strongly identify with Hillary being a mother and a grandmother, and then make the assumption that a woman president will work harder for justice? Do they just assume that she is more like them for those reasons, and Bernie Sanders is less like them so he cannot empathize with them and will not work for justice?
Well, the flaw in this line of thinking is that Hillary is nothing like them, she certainly does not see herself in these women. Remember George Zimmerman’s jury, the six women? They certainly didn’t identify with Sybrina Fulton. Being a woman and being a mother and grandmother does not create a sisterhood, it takes a great deal more. Hillary wants their support, then it’s good-bye.

But one other thing…
And I know a lot of people know it too, but few are willing to say it…the truth is that sadly, for some black folks, any sort of acknowledgement – no matter how slight, belated, condescending, insincere, blatantly exploitative, manipulative, or fleeting…they’re ever so grateful and over the moon for…
Sadly, any such ‘acknowledgement’ is seen as important ‘validation’ and a boost to self-esteem…
The truth is that some of these mothers would be demanding so much more from the black President and First Lady..and might have even been rude and a bit disdainful towards them – and even made some very clear demands as a precondition to any interaction…and would have been hemming and hawing and full of disclaimers that slightly distanced them from the Obamas…so as to be seen as not caving , and to impress their audience..
But all that is thrown to wind once Hillary paid them the slightest attention years later…and only as a ploy to win an election…
I was so sad and embarrassed to hear Trayvon’s mother and Sandra Bland’s mother alternately grateful and thrilled to be on display next to Hillary, and trying to save face by digging in …talking about how Hillary gets it…and how you can’t fake ‘compassion’…
Sad..
I’m afraid these women are going to be facing some more heart wrenching disappointment if Hillary does become president. It’s very sad.
Bernie Sanders is the only candidate on either side who is even a reasonable person, who even resembles a person that any one of us could relate to in some way. Dear Lord, how did this happen?

CNN’s Cuomo Asks Hillary Hard-Hitting Question About Beyonce Super Bowl Performance

During Tuesday night’s CNN Democratic Town Hall, host Chris Cuomo asked presidential candidate Hillary Clinton to weigh in on the controversy surrounding Beyonce‘s Super Bowl halftime show.
It all began when audience member Kyla Gray asked Clinton to address a series of recent racial controversies, including “Ferguson and Black Lives Matter and the recent backlash against Beyonce for her Formation video.”
When Clinton gave a detailed answer that did not mention Beyonce, Cuomo stepped in to rectify the situation. “You know, Kyla mentioned Beyonce. Let’s talk about Beyonce for a second, because why not?” he said.

I didn’t realize that Ricky Ray Rector had already been lobotomized. His death sentence should have been commuted to life w/o parole. His execution was a murder. Dear Lord. This makes me sick.
I was just reading about Rector. He was a bad guy, to be sure, but a failed suicide attempt (shooting himself in the head) effectively resulted in a lobotomy when doctors were able to save him. So, he was rendered harmless and childlike. Clinton used his unnecessary execution to show that he was tough on crime, no doubt about that.

Men wrongly imprisoned for murder get millions from Ohio
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Two Ohio brothers who spent decades in prison for a murder they didn’t commit will receive millions in additional compensation from the Ohio Court of Claims.
The court announced Tuesday that 61-year-old Wiley Bridgeman will receive $2.4 million and 58-year-old Kwame Ajamu (KWAH’ may ah-jah-MU’) nearly $2 million for being wrongfully imprisoned in the 1975 slaying of a salesman outside a corner store in Cleveland.
Bridgeman received an initial payment of $970,000 and Ajamu $648,000 from the court last year. A third man convicted in the slaying, 59-year-old Ricky Jackson, has received $1 million so far.
Jackson spent 39 years in prison, Bridgeman 37 years and Ajamu 25 years. All were sentenced to death.
They were exonerated last year after a key witness who was 13 when he testified recanted.

Back on February 15th, I told you that the Republicans would never confirm a replacement for Antonin Scalia. This wasn’t rocket science, but it wasn’t common wisdom at the time.
Eight days later, the Republican leadership in the Senate has confirmed that they won’t even consider any nominee from President Obama. They won’t meet with any nominee. They won’t have any hearing for a nominee in the Judiciary Committee. They won’t have a floor vote. Nothing.
Absolutely no one will be acceptable to them. The president could nominate the 83 year old elder statesman George Mitchell and they won’t give the courtesy of having lunch with him. The president can nominate the popular Republican governor of Nevada, Brian Sandoval, and they won’t give him a hearing. The president can pick Senator Amy Klobuchar who sits on the Judiciary Committee and her colleagues will give her the cold shoulder.
Obviously, any of those picks would make this unreasonable stance by the Republicans a lot more uncomfortable for them, but they don’t care.
The Democrats will not convince them that this is a political liability because they believe, probably correctly, that their base will be utterly demoralized if a pro-choice Justice replaces Scalia before the November elections.
If they hold out and win the presidency in November, they will be able to overturn Roe v. Wade in two easy steps.
First, they’ll replace Scalia with an anti-choice Justice. Then they’ll convince Justice Kennedy to retire and replace him with an anti-choice Justice. With Roberts, Alito, Thomas, and these two new Justices, they’ll have the five votes that have eluded them since Souter and Kennedy turned out to be traitors to the cause.
They’re so close now that they cannot give up.
So, they won’t.
