Wednesday Open Thread | A “Special Place in Hell”

Is there a special place in hell for the women like Hillary Clinton, Barbara A. Mikulski who did not support @DonnaFEdwards in her bid for the US Senate?

Or Is “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help e̶a̶c̶h̶ ̶o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ white women get elected”?

    Who DA BASE, now?

Twitter showed modest growth in the number of active users on the social network Tuesday, but a gloomy forecast and revenues that missed Wall Street expectations sent the shares tumbling in after-hours trading.

The increase in users, which reversed a decline in the previous quarter, was a rare positive for the ailing company. But less than stellar predictions for advertising revenue over the coming months showed just how far Twitter has to go. The stock plunged more than 12 percent when its earnings report came out, after rising nearly 4 percent in regular trading.

Twitter’s focus on the here and now made it the darling of news junkies, but the social network has struggled to grow its customer base — and thus its advertising revenue.

NO, NO, & NO! and Thank goodness

•In the costly primary to succeed Van Hollen, the candidate who actually had legislative experience beat the self-funder and the wife of a TV star. State Sen. Jamie Raskin—who led the fights in Annapolis to repeal the death penalty, legalize gay marriage and ban assault weapons—beat wine store owner David Trone, who outspent him 6-to-1, and Kathleen Matthews, a former TV anchor who is married to MSNBC’S Chris Matthews.

  6. Rikyrah, you want to add to the Donna Edwards thread?

  7. Liza says:

So, last night I was watching the American Experience documentary about Freedom Summer that I saved for a long time on my DVR. If you want to feel some real angst about the Democratic Party, well that bit of history will do it. The Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party owned the moral high ground and that is an understatement. They WERE the moral high ground.

And, at the 1964 Democratic convention, the Democratic Party had that once in a lifetime, rare opportunity to seat the Freedom delegation and stand up for freedom and justice and the rights of all citizens and everything this country is supposed to be about. They could have given us one shining moment in American history that may have stood out above all others. They could have proved that the Democratic Party really was the party of the people, all people.

This was their chance, their one God given chance, and the blew it all to hell.

So, I wonder WHO in the Democratic establishment decided that Donna Edwards should not be a senator?

All of this ESTABLISHMENT push back against progress and 21st century realities really needs to end. It will stop eventually, of course, but how? Democrats sure as hell do not believe in a soft landing as evidenced by their ramming Hillary down our throats and NOT supporting true progressive candidates.

    This election. Damn.

Baltimore Police Investigating Arrest of Teen Snatched Out of Home After Video Goes Viral

Tionne Jones, 18, was inside his home when an officer snatched him out of the house, threw him to the ground and arrested him.

The video posted to social media shows Tionne Jones inside his home Saturday. He and two other occupants are arguing with an officer who has placed his hands inside the doorway of the home. The officer demands to speak with the homeowner, who Jones and the other men say is not home. They also tell the officer that he cannot come into the house without a search warrant. Another officer arrives and within seconds appears to yank Jones out of his house and onto the ground outside. He is wrestled to the ground and arrested.

Police spokesman T.J. Smith told the Baltimore Sun that an executive team determined that charges filed against Jones weren’t appropriate.

Smith added that police had received complaints about the house, including those of “possible drug activity.” However, no drug charges have been filed, the Sun reports.

    Arianna Huffington joins Uber’s board
    by Dylan Byers @CNNMoney
    April 27, 2016: 8:06 AM ET

Arianna Huffington has joined Uber’s board of directors.

The Huffington Post co-founder has been tapped to bring “emotional intelligence” to the the San Francisco-based transportation network and help it do a better job of marketing the brand, CEO Travis Kalanick said on Wednesday.

“That ability to tell stories is invaluable for an engineer like me, whose natural tendency is to rely on data. As I’ve discovered, that doesn’t always work perfectly. So it’s Arianna’s emotional intelligence that I am most excited to learn from,” Kalanick wrote in a statement posted on both Huffington Post and Uber.com.

The move marks Huffington’s first formal assignment on the board of a new technology company, and may signal further ambitions for her in Silicon Valley.
