Stephen Lawrence “Steve” Winwood (born 12 May 1948) is an English musician whose genres include rock, blue-eyed soul, rhythm and blues, blues rock, pop rock, and jazz. Though primarily a vocalist and keyboardist, Winwood also plays bass guitar, drums, guitar, mandolin, violin, and other strings.

Winwood was a key member of The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith and Go. He also had a successful solo career with hits including “While You See a Chance”, “Valerie”, “Back in the High Life Again” and two US Billboard Hot 100 number ones: “Higher Love” and “Roll with It”. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Traffic in 2004.

In 2005, Winwood was honoured as a BMI Icon at the annual BMI London Awards for his “enduring influence on generations of music makers.” In 2008, Rolling Stone ranked Winwood #33 in its 100 Greatest Singers of All Time. Winwood has won two Grammy Awards. He was nominated twice for the Brit Award for Best British Male Artist: 1988 and 1989.

    Obama moves to open colleges to ex-convicts

    The Obama administration is trying to make it easier for ex-convicts to go to college.

    The U.S. Department of Education released a resource guide Monday to give colleges and universities alternatives to asking for criminal history on college applications, a question that has been shown to prevent an estimated 70 million citizens from pursing higher education.

    “We believe in second chances and we believe in fairness,” Secretary of Education John King, Jr. said in a statement. “The college admissions process shouldn’t serve as a roadblock to opportunity, but should serve as a gateway to unlocking untapped potential of students.”

    King made Monday’s announcement while visiting UCLA, a member of the University of California system, which does not inquire about criminal history on its admissions applications.

    If you were a wealthy African, where would you live? According to the Africa 2016 Wealth Report, Johannesburg, South Africa is no longer where it’s at.

    The report examined the performance of millionaires between the years 2007 and the end of 2015 – defining ‘millionaires’ or ‘high net worth individuals’ as those people with net assets of $1 million US dollars.

    Here are the results. Drumroll please.

    Mauritius, an enchanting little island off of the coast of Madagascar with low taxes and a booming retirement crowd, is the fastest growing African country for millionaires, while famed South Africa is bringing-up the rear. Check out the entire list, in order of wealth, below.

    Back in the 1980’s, President Reagan famously said, “Government is not the solution to our problem, government IS the problem.” But as Norman Ornstein said recently, Newt Gingrich took that to a whole new level.

    As a brand new member of the House, he had a full-blown theory of how Republicans could break out of their seemingly permanent minority, and build a majority.
    And over the next 16 years, he put that plan into action. He delegitimized the Congress and the Democratic leadership, convincing people that they were arrogant and corrupt and that the process was so bad that anything would be better than this. He tribalized the political process. He went out and recruited the candidates, and gave them the language to use about how disgusting and despicable and horrible and immoral and unpatriotic the Democrats were. That swept in the Republican majority in 1994.

    The problem is that all the people he recruited to come in really believed that shit. They all came in believing that Washington was a cesspool. So what followed has been a very deliberate attempt to blow up and delegitimize government, not just the president but the actions of government itself in Washington.
