Judge Barry G. Williams is scheduled to issue a ruling Monday in the case of Officer Edward Nero, one of six Baltimore police officers charged in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray. Nero, 30, is charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and two counts of misconduct in office, all related to his role in Gray’s initial detention and arrest on April 12, 2015.

Nero has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Gray, 25, suffered severe spinal cord injuries while in the back of a Baltimore police van, prosecutors say. He died a week later.
Williams is expected to hand down his ruling at 10:30 a.m.

I’ve had a few thoughts about the judge myself especially after reading Lizz Brown’s tweets this AM. It’s like this, y’all. Some folks in certain positions get these rare opportunities to take a stand, to make history, to do something that is truly groundbreaking and meaningful. Some of these folks understand that and some don’t, the opportunity flies right on past them. Well, Judge Williams didn’t get it.
I am so angry at his black azz.
Liza, not guilty on all fucking counts. We saw Freddie Gray being dragged to the van. He couldn’t walk under his own power and not guilty on all fucking counts. God help us!
I know, SG2. From looking at what they did that young man, it seems a hell of a lot more likely that his neck was broken when the cops assaulted him. And his spine was probably severely bruised and maybe even partially severed at that point. And, of course, the rough unrestrained ride in the van probably did make the horrific injury much worse which is why it was 80 percent severed by the time he got medical attention. I cannot be convinced that Freddie Gray was able to walk after the initial assault, CANNOT be convinced. The family got paid, which means the PD and this judge know those cops are guilty as hell.
The Judge know damn well the city didn’t pay them for nothing. I can’t with these damn negroes in a position to bring about change and act like they’re scared. Got dammit!
Yeah, he probably didn’t get to be a judge by taking controversial positions. And whatever he’s got, he wants to keep it. Marilyn Mosby, however, has got the right stuff as they say.

I believe that. Nero wasn’t even charged with a felony, yet there is still no conviction. Very suspicious given that an innocent man died.
Just like a smart and seasoned journalist like Eugene Robinson knows better better but mostly says nothing for fear of losing his job at the Washington Post and on MSNBC…and just as Don Lemon as mediocre and as reliably ridiculous as he is, remains the one constant black visible face and voice at CNN – in a world full of black journalists smarter, better qualified – and yes, even more reliably more Tommy, than Donny…
So is the story of black folk in high places these days…the cowardly smart ones and the jokers who are brought in and retained only because they can be relied upon not to rock the boat…and to know their place…and to play along or lose the luxuries and visibility allowed them courtesy of the benevolence of their slave owners…
I have no illusions about any of this stuff any longer…which is why I don’t cheer many of those crowned black ‘heroes’…whether it is in government, politics, corporate America, entertainment…etc..
So many of our skin folk are only in it for themselves – even when they sometimes co-opt and personally exploit the general black sentiment de jour… and string along other black folks to exploit the automatic pride and affection, but always and only for their own purposes…
We never hear from these folks except when they need to cultivate and harness black support to specifically advance themselves…or when the oppressive system that has hand-picked and elevated and enriched them as tokens, predictably, finally betrays them and bites them in the butt or turns on them…or they get too carried away and actually begin to believe their own hype…that they somehow got to where they are because they were the best ones…and then get too big for their britches and actually start flexing their muscles and raising their voice thinking they actually have a vote, say or sway in the exclusive world they’ve been benevolently allowed in as diversity token window dressing…
There are no more selfless, honest and brave ones…no more fearless men or women of courage and honor and integrity…
Everyone is trying not to cross their slave owners…everyone is trying not to upset the apple cart, the status quo…everyone is playing along, desperate to be accepted, validated and thought of as finally ‘worthy’ ..applauded for being the ‘good’ ones…same as those condescendingly lauded in the past as a pride to their race…but more importantly, looking to keep the gig that pays for the luxurious life they’ve grown accustomed to…

Perhaps Nero never had to lose sleep over the fact that his mother will ever face the possibility that he or his non cop brothers will be savagely maimed or dot down like a wild animal by a cop.
Nero has to believe that you and your mother are even human beings and valuable and worthy before he even tries to put himself and his mother in your shoes…

Interesting isn’t it? What a relief to Nero that his freedom is no longer going to be taken away from him, even temporarily. And he will not be held accountable for his crimes. What a relief that must be.
I wonder if he ever thinks of Freddie Gray. Freddie Gray was alive and well before crossing paths with Nero and his partners. Perhaps Freddie enjoyed being alive and being free as much as Mr. Nero does. It is this inability to recognize the humanity of people like Freddie Gray, to feel nothing for them, to completely devalue their lives as though they are insects or rodents that is so disturbing.
Something tells me that Mr. Nero’s opinion of Freddie Gray hasn’t changed.

Freddie Gray was apprehended and arrested without cause, his body was maimed and mutilated by the Baltimore police, and he died as a result of those fatal injuries inflicted by the police after suffering for several days in the hospital.
That is what happened to Freddie Gray. May he rest in peace.

Especially after this acquittal, I don’t think that even a jury will give justice to Freddie Gray. The police spend a lot of money on lawyers and all they need is reasonable doubt. I’ve always feared that these cases prosecuted individually would be problematic.

What I mean is that they are problematic when the defense lawyer creates reasonable doubt that this one individual actually caused the death. No question that the man is dead, but can you, the juror, convict this man for his contribution that by itself may not have resulted in death, the smart lawyer will ask them. How can the prosecutors tell the story of Freddie’s murder by prosecuting these cops one at a time? It’s difficult, and it’s not working.
It appears none of these folks are SMART. Or so we’re lead to believe that the video we have seen a gazillion times where Freddie Gray’s legs looked like noodles as these BARBARIC cops dragged him into that van, failed to seat belt him, or even get him medical attention when he asked for it….

Yeah, I remember that we talked about this a lot. The mutilation of Freddie’s body started before he was near the van, as shown in the video. How Nero gets acquitted of second degree assault and recklessness is just amazing. He deserves second degree murder.

If Freddie Gray had survived his injuries we wouldn’t even be talking about this, there would be no charges against any of these cops. Especially in Baltimore.
