Media Plans to Call Democratic Primary for Hillary Clinton Before California Polls Close

Chris Matthews 22Chris Matthews sat down with Bernie Sanders’ campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, and confirmed that MSNBC and several other media networks intend to call the Democratic primary race for Hillary Clinton before polls close in California on June 7.

Matthews said that the plan is to call the race at 8 p.m. Eastern time, three hours before the polls close in California on the West Coast.

Weaver argues passionately that the superdelegates totals should not be included in the reporting that night, as superdelegates do not vote until the convention. Until that time, he states that the numbers are essentially only a “poll,” and do not reflect an official tally that should be reported by the media.

Weaver also expressed dismay at the prospect that this might affect the voters of California, who should be given a chance to voice themselves without being discounted.

The media has had a history of misreporting superdelegate totals throughout this primary race. Even after public statements from Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz that the superdelegate totals should not be included in articles and press releases, numerous articles still included misleading information for months, without separating pledged and unpledged delegates in their totals.

Even today, MSNBC continues to report delegate totals that include superdelegates.

Importantly, research has proven that polls and forecasts can actually influence voters’ choices through the “bandwagon effect,” which suggests people will back the choice or candidate they think is mostly likely to win.

Recently, some Democratic figures and Clinton surrogates have urged Bernie Sanders to drop out of the race, arguing that his continuing campaign only hurts Clinton’s bid against Donald Trump. However, Bernie Sanders insists that his voters’ concerns must be heard and intends to carry those issues to the national convention in Philadelphia and argue for his candidacy to the superdelegates before the final vote.

    The State Department’s Inspector General has concluded that Hillary Clinton and her senior aides ignored repeated warnings that her private email system was vulnerable to hackers when she was Secretary of State. The IG also finds, in the report set to be released Thursday morning, that Clinton failed to comply with Federal Records Act requirements to turn over her work e-mails when she left office in 2013.

    The report, copies of which were provided to the State department and Congress ahead of its public release, will drive continued criticism of Clinton’s unorthodox e-mail arrangement as she seeks the White House, and could fuel civil cases brought by watchdog groups seeking access to her e-mails.

    The IG found evidence that hackers tried to breach Clinton’s server, but were unsuccessful. The report finds that the technical specialist Clinton used to manage the server had twice shut the system down when it came under attack. On January 9, 2011, the report says, the specialist wrote a top Clinton aide that “someone was trying to hack us and while they did not get in i didn’t want to them them have the chance to.” Another attack occurred later the same day, the report says.

      And this was even after and as Trump had been running around for years spouting his ugly Birther crap…

      But now we’re all supposed to get all fearful and despise Trump – and only because now they need us to do so just to help Hillary get into the Oval office..

      Yeah, it certainly does appear to speak to intent. Good Lord, what was she thinking? Indicted? I just don’t know, it’s hard to predict because of who she is and the entire Democratic machine is behind her.

    2 State staffers discussed their concerns about Hillary’s server and was told the system was approved and the matter was not to be discussed any further.

          Of course not SG..

          I can’t tell you how much of a let down Joy Ann Reid has been…When she first started at MSNBC, I was rooting so hard for her ..I wanted her to shine…to do well…Then she started getting the side eye from me when amongst other things, she would never address the President properly…like she was making some point…She’s since learnt to be more respectful – and even quite effusive these days…

          She does seem to suffer from a somewhat weird variance of that herd mentality, even as she wants to be seen as a smart and serious journalist…

      The Romanian hacker known as Guccifer, who claims that he got into Hillary Clinton’s private server, is set to change his plea from not guilty in his federal case, according to court records.

      Marcel Lehel Lazar will appear in a Virginia courtroom on Wednesday for what’s described in the court docket as a change of plea hearing.

      Lazar had pleaded not guilty when he was extradited last month to face charges of hacking American political elites — including Gen. Colin Powell, a member of the Bush family, and former Clinton advisor Sidney Blumenthal.

      It was not clear which counts the plea will cover. Lazar is not charged with any crimes in connection with his claims about Clinton’s server.
