Bernie Sanders’ campaign says Hillary Clinton’s nomination as the Democratic Party’s presidential pick is dependent on superdelegates who can still change their minds between now and the July convention.
The campaign’s statement comes as The Associated Press count shows Clinton has commitments from the number of delegates needed to become the Democrats’ presumptive nominee.
Sanders’ spokesman Michael Briggs says the campaign’s job is to convince the superdelegates — party insiders — that the Vermont senator is ‘‘by far the strongest candidate against Donald Trump.’’ He says calling the Democratic contest before superdelegates formally vote at the convention is a ‘‘rush to judgment.’’

Spot on, eliihaas. And so far, it’s the only argument they’re putting forward to continue scaring folks into voting for this witch.
I think that more black folks would have supported Bernie Sanders if they had an opportunity to know more about him. When those states were voting, I remember reading somewhere (can’t say where now because it was too long ago) that about 30 percent of the black voters didn’t know who he was. And why would they? He was a senator from Vermont. Bernie was blacklisted by the corporate media from day one, when it looked like he really could challenge Hillary. He was drawing huge crowds, he had a consistent message, and the msm mostly ignored him.
But it does appear to be the case that after all this time, the majority of black voters Still prefer Hillary over Bernie. I don’t know why. The only answer I’ve ever received is, “We’re Democrats and Democrats stick together.” And numerous black people have told me that Bernie is not a Democrat, he’s an outsider, and they aren’t willing to listen to him.
I don’t know what to say, SG2. Maybe they believe in miracles. But there is no denying that black voters have supported Hillary, and they have no reason to expect her to do any more for them than she has already done. They are far more likely to be worse off in four years than they are now, as unthinkable as that might be.

Drove to the Fedex drop off at the airport to send out some packages and ran into an older lady I know and she says she’s on her way to vote…so I decide to chat a bit…she shows me her marked-up mock voter booklet…her daughter had helped her by pre-selecting candidates so it’d make it easier for her in the voting booth..
So, I notice that she has both Hillary and Bernie marked up ..and I tell her she can only pick one…she says her daughter likes Bernie and is voting for him, but that she was thinking of voting for Hillary…I ask her why…she tells me that she does not want a Jew in the White House…that Bernie is a Jew and that he will sell America to Israel…
Oh. My. God…
I ran to my car, whipped out my iPad and played a portion of Hillary’s AIPAC speech to her…and showed her a copy of that letter Hillary wrote Haim Saban … I then showed her Bernie’s letter to AIPAC, told her he didn’t even show up for AIPAC…I then played her a portion of their debate and showed her Bernie’s answer and Hillary’s when they were asked about Israel…and the Palestinians…
She was shocked…and confused…
How could it be that the Jewish guy was the good guy…and the wasp was the rabid bought and paid for tool for Netanyahu and the Zionist billionaires with a stake in this election…but there it all was on video…
I told her to pay attention if she really wanted to be an informed and participating citizen…And just for good measure, I threw in a few extra videos to refresh her memory about Hillary and how she and Bill had attacked and undermined the President…and how they remained friends with Trump even as he waged his birther wars just a few years ago, but now that he poses a threat to her oval office ambition, how she and Bill now want to use their bestie Trump’s birther attacks which never bothered them when he was doing it, but now wield it, to try to use to help her win.
She asked me to add her to my email list…she told me that she was only ever going to vote for Hillary because there had been really no other choice after she eliminated Bernie because she’d automatically assumed that as a Jew, he was a Zionist…I also offered an extra talking point or two to drive home my points…and to make sure that I’d completely disabused her mind of any anti-Bernie propaganda she might have been fed…I reminded her that Bernie was just a few years older than Hillary who will be turning 70 …and that she, not Bernie, was the one with a recent history of a serious illness…she hugged me and I told her to go vote before the place closes…she called her daughter on the spot and asked her why she hadn’t shown her the videos I showed her…why she just told her to vote for Bernie and didn’t offer her the compelling videos that I’d shown her…she scolded her daughter and told her she had to do her homework so she could be be a better at supporting her arguments…she said if she hadn’t bumped into me that she would have made a terrible mistake and that it would have been her daughter’s fault…LOL…moms..
But as we hugged goodbye, I laughed and told her that we do still need to discuss and address her anti-semitism that has her blanketing and judging all Jews in such viscerally negative ways…she was embarrassed and a bit defensive…and I told her I’ll have them over for dinner next week so I can show her more videos including those that prove that there are some really great Jewish folks…and that some non- Jewish folks were more rabidly pro-Israel than Jews..e.g republicans…she agreed…
You wonder how many more folks are out there making decisions based entirely on erroneous information…
Point is, a lot of folks are misinformed, under-informed and terribly uninformed …And to the extent it works out well for some candidates and their supporters and teams, they love it just that way…and they will work to keep it that way..

I do feel such guilt for not doing more – and sooner..
But I’ve gotten so progressively jaded and exhausted and frankly, quite disillusioned with the conveniently ‘ever-changing’ political process that’s devoid of integrity, honor… the glaring double standards, the inconsistencies, the disingenuity, the giving of so much to undeserving folks because they have a machine behind them and bought up flunkies, while there’s such a lack of real, sustained and respectful support not only for the President, but as everyone knows is extremely important to me, especially absent for our also historic First Lady…and the fact that even though there’s been so little actual support or protection, that even after reaching what should be the top of the game, they still don’t seem to have much rights or wiggle room – or given the respect and the freedom to make their own honest calls… they’re still getting arm-twisted to pretend that what we witnessed, what we were all privy to as it played out so publicly…didn’t in fact happen…they’re supposed to play along…pretend that they’re really best buddies with a woman who together with her husband and their flunkies, was so underhanded, and did quite some undermining and has never stopped with the hostile and vindictive competing efforts…The Obamas weren’t even allowed to really savor this presidency in the best sense…and now, they’re not even allowed to enjoy the immunity all sitting Presidents and First Ladies enjoy in their last months – that allow them to remain dignifiedly and relatively ‘removed’ from the messiness and the rough and tumble that is hard-fought presidential campaign and election…No, they are being asked to give up their time…including already scarce family time with each other, and with their young daughters, to go out there to actively campaign for Hillary…to use up their political capital and favors, outrightly stake their own reputations, their own legacies and everything else – put themselves at further risk …including deepen enmities and make new enemies – and only for Hillary Clinton and to get Hillary Clinton elected…And no, it’s really not about ‘protecting the President’s legacy’…
But most importantly, Hillary and Bill Clinton would never ever do it for them…The Clintons would never inconvenience themselves in any way for the Obamas…they might trade a few favors with the President, but they’ll do nothing for the First Lady…They would never, ever sacrifice an iota of Chelsea’s well-being to go out on a limb for the Obamas…and they sure as hell will NEVER stake their reputations (whatever that is), their legacies (whatever those are), their influence – for the Obamas – and especially not for them to succeed…heck, they couldn’t even extend them a courtesy invitation to Chelsea’s wedding…and where there could have easily been and should have, there was never any bonding with this young family that succeeded them as the next Democratic family in the White House…
The Democratic Party establishment rigging the democratic process and unveiling their coronation plans…that only hardened my resolve to distance myself from things..
I believe if Bernie had the same sort of fierce informal surrogacy and outreach so many of us personally initiated and implemented on our own for then Senator Obama in 2008 – and again for the President’s re-election in 2012, Bernie would have done so much better..
I can’t tell you how many dinners, lunches, favors and visits – and even some version of ‘bribes’ it took to get folks not only on-board but also ensuring they actually voted…I personally helped register, complete, picked up and mailed hundreds of ballots…
I couldn’t begin to tell you the stories…the things I heard and saw as I interacted with people I thought I was familiar with – and others I realized I knew even less than I thought I knew about them…sometimes it took the most unusual and seemingly shallowest of things to convince folks…the self-proclaimed long-time Democrat, an older Filipino lady who didn’t really like or trust ‘Obama’ and couldn’t tell you why…but who decided to vote for him after she accidentally found out his mother and grandparents were white…as I shared a story with her…And then changed her mind again when she saw their pictures…deciding that they were white – which she appreciated – but looked decidedly ‘low class’…she eventually voted for the President (she was a by-mail voter, so I sat with her as she filled out her ballot and I took it and mailed it) but only after I bought up 17 remaining seats on her fundraising casino party bus that took her group gambling. I passed out the tickets to other folks who showed me proof they voted.
Sometimes we know what we know – and it’s not to be found in any political organizing manual…but more importantly, we know and understand our communities and the quirks and foibles of those who make it up – our work, home, faith, social communities – we know them best …and over the years, hopefully, folks get to know and trust you and trust your judgement…neighbors, business associates, support staff, our faith folks, the grocers and their check-out folks, our dentist, doctors and their nurses, receptionists, the post man, the UPS guy, the dog walkers, the polite skate boarders who routinely bump into you as you walk the beach and they illegally skate on sidewalks at night…the communities you interact with and know best…we know their triggers, we know how to reach them…and they know that they can trust you…that you’re passionate not just about politics, but more importantly, about people…and that you engage them on some level, not just during elections, but even in off years…political discourse is easiest when folks don’t feel put open or exploited…but most importantly, they want proof…actually, need hard proof and evidence to be convinced when they disagree…even though they’ll settle for 3rd hand and often ridiculous gossip or speculation when they agree…
And for all that you have to be prepared…Nothing better than videos and other tangible proof to support what you’re saying…it won’t always guarantee that the person will change their mind, but it helps hopefully to force them to confront what really motivates their denial even when presented with hard evidence…
One will have to not only follow the day to day happenings…you have to voraciously consume and store massive amounts of good and bad information…even what folks think isn’t important…personal stuff…As I’ve always said, you’d be surprised the impact of a picture….even if it sends and makes a completely different statement and impression than the actual video of the photographed moment…And the power of a video, when the pictures don’t even begin to convey the power of the moment…

Try to imagine the next four years beginning in January, 2017.
The Super delegates weren’t enough. They had to shut down voter turnout so that Hillary had a better chance of winning CA. That way they can say, “THE VOTERS HAVE SPOKEN” and that is exactly what they are saying.
The message is clear from the Democrats. They will pick the nominees, period. And they will do this until the voters say no more, stop sending money, stop volunteering, and stop getting their news from propaganda outlets like the Associated Press.
Congratulations, AP, you are almost worthy to have your news sit next to The National Enquirer at the grocery checkout lanes. Not quite, some improvement is still needed.

Tom Cotton loses sight of what public service is all about

Just last week, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was eager to pat himself on the back for a job well done. Thanks to his fine work, the Republican leader boasted, “there is no dysfunction in the Senate anymore.”
There’s quite a bit of evidence to the contrary. Consider, for example, the New York Times’ Frank Bruni’s report on Cassandra Butts’ nomination to serve as the United States ambassador to the Bahamas.
After “decades of government and nonprofit work that reflected a passion for public service,” Butts received a nomination from President Obama to a diplomatic post for which she was well qualified. Her confirmation should’ve been easy, but the Senate kept putting her nomination on the back-burner – Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), for example, blocked her as part of a tantrum against the Iran nuclear deal.
And then there’s Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who blocked Butts and the nominees for the ambassadorships to Sweden and Norway.
Cotton eventually released the two other holds, but not the one on Butts. She told me that she once went to see him about it, and he explained that he knew that she was a close friend of Obama’s – the two first encountered each other on a line for financial-aid forms at Harvard Law School, where they were classmates – and that blocking her was a way to inflict special pain on the president.
Bruni’s report added that Cotton’s spokesperson “did not dispute Butts’s characterization of that meeting.”
Butts died recently at age 50 of acute leukemia, which she didn’t know she had until her life was nearly over. She waited 835 days for the Senate to vote on her nomination, but the vote never came.
“All Cassandra wanted to do was serve her country,” Valerie Jarrett, a senior adviser to the president, told the Times. “Looking back, it is devastating to think that through no fault of her own, she spent the last 835 days of her life waiting for confirmation.”
Reading Bruni’s piece got me thinking about the nature of public service, and how different people can take their responsibilities very differently.

Trump U’ scandal gets worse for Florida’s AG

The details surrounding “Trump University” and Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi (R) already painted an unflattering picture. We learned last week that Bondi briefly considered joining a multi-state suit against the controversial “school,” but the Florida Republican dropped the investigation after the Trump Foundation made a $25,000 contribution towards Bondi’s re-election.
The Orlando Sentinel’s Scott Maxwell noted over the weekend that it’s “wildly unethical” for a prosecutor to “take money from a potential target.” And as it turns out, new details from the Associated Press make the controversy appear even worse.
Florida’s attorney general personally solicited a political contribution from Donald Trump around the same time her office deliberated joining an investigation of alleged fraud at Trump University and its affiliates. […]
The money came from a Trump family foundation in apparent violation of rules surrounding political activities by charities. A political group backing Bondi’s re-election, called And Justice for All, reported receiving the check Sept. 17, 2013 – four days after Bondi’s office publicly announced she was considering joining a New York state probe of Trump University’s activities, according to a 2013 report in the Orlando Sentinel.
Bondi apparently isn’t responding to media inquiries, but her office referred the AP to Marc Reichelderfer, a political consultant who worked for her re-election effort, who said Bondi wasn’t aware of the consumer complaints her office had received about “Trump U” when she reached out to Trump for the improper contribution. He added that the appeal for campaign cash came before her office considered investigating the so-called “school.”

Why Marco Rubio doesn’t get an ‘I told you so’ moment

During his failed presidential campaign, Marco Rubio tried to draw attention to some of Donald Trump’s more obvious flaws as candidate, including Trump’s reliance on racist politics and the scandal surrounding “Trump University.” Three months after ending his national campaign – Rubio won a grand total of one state – the Florida senator is feeling some vindication. Politico reported yesterday:
Joining the chorus of Republicans condemning Donald Trump over his rhetoric toward a federal judge’s Mexican heritage, Marco Rubio offered a cutting remark: I warned you. […]
“I don’t defend what he says, and all I can tell you is I ran for president and I warned you this is what was going to happen,” Rubio told WFTV’s Christopher Heath. “I consistently said if he became the nominee, we’d face these sorts of difficult choices we now have.”
The Politico report added that Rubio believes Trump’s racism towards U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel doesn’t reflect well on the Republican Party or “us as a nation,” adding that “some of the things he has said and done aren’t going to help” the party improve its relationships with Hispanics.
“There shouldn’t be any sort of ethnicity, religious or racial test for what kind of judges should hear what kind of cases,” Rubio said. “If you take that argument and expand it, you can make that argument about anybody in any circumstances. It’s wrong and I think he should stop.”

Sen. Tim Scott Calls Trump’s Judge Comments ‘Racially Toxic,’ Not Racist

While Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) was deeply troubled by Donald Trump’s attacks against U.S. District Gonzalo Curiel — who Trump has repeatedly dismissed as “Mexican” and biased against him — Scott plans to continue supporting Trump and says the GOP’s presidential nominee has not crossed a line that would cause him to revoke his endorsement.
“His comments were certainly racially toxic. I don’t know the intent of his heart so I’m not going to call them racist comments but certainly they are racially toxic,” Scott told reporters on Capitol Hill Tuesday. “The fact of the matter is we have to find a way to unite this country around one goal, one mission with everyone in the same boat.”
Scott signaled there was a line that Trump could cross where he would revoke his endorsement, but “we’re not there yet.”

There is no doubt in my mind about this. Deadbeat Donnie has given away the game that he and his mentors spent forty years playing exclusively through dog whistles. He’s careening around the country, listening to no one and sucking up all the media oxygen that isn’t going to Hillary. He’s killing the prospects of many a Senate GOPer in purplish states and he’s making every single minority population in the country remember why they hate white guys. It’s unfuckingbelievable, to me and, I’m absolutely sure, him. If you watched the stream, the best and most important parts of this event were not captured in photographs…because the White House photographer (the black guy in the white shirt and black tie standing with the chefs behind the cooking demonstration table), preferred to keep his camera hung around his neck instead, too bored to actually take pictures to document one of FLOTUS’ last garden events – and so the wonderful moments between FLOTUS and the kids… the interactions that matter most and tell the story, were left out..
And so instead of the wonderful moments, carefully captured by a White House photographer who should be trying to tell a story – as they do with the President’s events…we get all sorts of random shots taken by the pool of news media from their angle…
It’s heartbreaking, but what can I say…
By the way the black photographer used to work for the New York Times …and based on the only photograph of the First Lady credited to him when he worked there, I’d never assign him to cover her…
Probably wants the Pete Souza assignment to not only feel important, but because, cha-ching a la books in the future…But the guy is far too short-sighted…he has no idea how much money he would fetch with books that catalog the historic FLOTUS…but only meaningful and fantastic pictures…but when you’re too big for your britches to bother, you end up missing the moments that would have made you rich and famous…
How I wish FLOTUS had a photographer version of the author Peter Slevin…a photographer who not only understands the importance of this historic FLOTUS, but really gets her, gets her heart and how and why she is…and completely appreciates her and captures her essence… That would translate so beautifully into his lens captures of the historic black FLOTUS…
I wonder for example how these moments we see on video with FLOTUS hugging these children at the end…sharing a special moment and sitting and engaging with the native American kids who flew in from Colorado for the event….and later before she leaves, going from table to table talking with and hugging the other kids from D.C area schools that she’s now very familiar with since they are at all her garden events…
And then stop and imagine how Pete Souza would have captured and shared these moments we see on video with FLOTUS and the kids…had this been POTUS instead..

GOP unveils Dodd-Frank alternative

A leading House Republican has unveiled the GOP plan to regulate Wall Street and replace the Dodd-Frank financial reform law.
A new bill introduced by House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) would fundamentally remake the financial regulation landscape, and eradicate major pieces of President Obama’s Wall Street reform law.
Congressional Republicans have considered dozens of smaller bills tweaking the sweeping 2010 law. But Hensarling’s latest proposal marks the broadest, most ambitious effort yet by the GOP to change how Wall Street and Washington interact. Hensarling will detail the bill in remarks delivered to the Economic Club of New York Tuesday morning.
“Simply put, Dodd-Frank has failed. It’s time for a new legislative paradigm in banking and capital markets,” he will say, according to prepared remarks.
Such a plan is a political longshot this Congress, as the White House has repeatedly threatened to veto any changes to Dodd-Frank, and congressional Democrats have shown little interest in revisiting it. But Hensarling’s plan could serve as a blueprint for Republicans after the presidential election, particularly if the party’s nominee, Donald Trump, wins the White House.
But in his speech, Hensarling laid the blame for a lackluster economic recovery squarely at the feet of the new financial rules, which he argued has hamstrung the economy.
“Ending and replacing the mistake of Dodd-Frank is the necessary start if we ever hope to restore real economic growth in America,” he will say.

A lawyer for a top State Department official repeatedly objected to questions about Hillary Clinton’s private email address during a deposition earlier this month.
The transcript, released on Monday by conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, documented June 3 testimony from Ambassador Stephen D. Mull. The ambassador previously served as executive secretary of the State Department during Clinton’s tenure.
“When did you first become aware of Mrs. Clinton — the email address Mrs. Clinton was using to conduct official government business?” asked Michael Bekesha, lawyer for Judicial Watch during the deposition.
“Objection,” interjected Mull’s lawyer, Steven Myers. “Value. It’s vague, and it’s ambiguous.”
When informed by Bekesha that he could answer, Mull said it was a “difficult question to answer” because he wasn’t sure he “ever really became aware” that Clinton was using a private email address for official government business.
Asked about a message where “H” was listed as the sender of an email on which he was copied, Mull said that he did not “definitively” know whom the email was from.
“Based on the body of the email, does it — it appears as though H would refer to Mrs. Clinton?” Bekesha asked.
“Objection,” interjected Myers. “Is there a question?”
“Based — after reviewing the entire email, do you think that the H refers to Mrs. Clinton?” Bekesha rephrased.
“Objection,” Myers said again. “Calls for speculation.”
When told that he was allowed to answer the question, Mull said he wasn’t quite sure if the “H” referred to Clinton.
“I — I don’t know,” he said. “That’s a reasonable assumption, but I — I don’t know for a fact who would have received something at the H email.”
Bekesha next asked Mull about an email sent from then State Department legal adviser Harold Koh. The message was sent to Mull and Clinton, among others.
