Freddie Gray case | State vs Officer Caesar Goodson | Day 5

caesar goodson-s-trialTrial is set to resume Wednesday for Caesar Goodson Jr., the officer facing the most serious charges in the death of Freddie Gray, who suffered a fatal spine injury last year while riding in a police van Goodson was driving.

Prosecutors are attempting to show that Goodson gave Gray a “rough ride,” driving carelessly as Gray, who was shackled but not seat belted, bounced around in the van’s prisoner compartment. They’ve called 18 witnesses in four days of trial so far.

Defense attorneys contend that there is no evidence of a “rough ride” and that police were permitted to transport Gray without a seat belt because he was combative during his arrest.

Goodson, 46, is charged with second-degree depraved heart murder, manslaughter, assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office. He has waived a jury trial, opting instead to have his case heard by Judge Barry G. Williams. Five other officers have been charged, but Goodson is the only defendant accused of murder.

In proceedings Tuesday, Baltimore City Police Detective Michael Boyd, who investigated Gray’s death, testified that video evidence didn’t appear to show Goodson making any sudden stops or turns as he drove Gray through West Baltimore after his arrest.

I don’t know, SG2. Do they think it’s over or is this because they are “truncating” their case?

  1. Dylann Roof went into a church & slaughtered 9 people. He’s alive. Cops gave him food. What was #FreddieGray crime?

I suspect that everyone reading this thread is physically sick by now. I know I am.

No words. It doesn’t get any worse than this. I just want to express my sorrow for the family and those who loved Freddie Gray. I am so sorry. It is a heavy load, to live with this, I am so sorry.

    • It’s mind numbing, Liza. They fucked up Freddie Gray. For what? What was his crime?

I think they do this all the time. Actually, we know they do this, cops using excessive force is as common as dirt. So, it gets worse over time because there are no consequences. No one has been counting the dead until recently, and they sure as hell weren’t counting the injured and maimed. But then one day, they go too far, they kill someone. They just meant to beat him up. Why? The guilty ones will never give you an honest answer. All they do is lie, trying to keep their own pitiful, pathetic, sub-human asses out of prison.

  3. Lord, help us. Savage beasts parading around in police uniforms.

  4. Judge has been scolding prosecution every chance he has gotten. Not too happy with the judge.

  5. How in the hell was Freddie Gray’s death an accident? 80% spine severed. Crushed voice box?
