A spate of racist incidents in the U.K. in the wake of Thursday’s vote to leave the European Union have Britons concerned the result is emboldening extremist elements in society.

Police are investigating a report of “racially-motivated” damage at the Polish Social and Cultural Association, a community center in west London, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said on Sunday. Twitter users described graffiti that read “Go Home” daubed on walls and windows. In Cambridgeshire, police are investigating flyers left outside a primary school that said “Leave the EU, no more Polish vermin,” the Evening Standard reported.

After a bruising referendum campaign in which supporters of leaving the EU were accused of stoking xenophobia, these and other incidents will intensify worries about whether a generally tolerant country is becoming less so. While politicians on both sides of the vote have urged calm and said the result does not reflect prejudice toward migrants from Europe or elsewhere, some aren’t so sure.

“There is no question the U.K. is shifting to a more racist atmosphere and policies. This is a rhetoric that’s showing up in the lives of schoolchildren,” said Adam Posen, a former member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee who now leads the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

[Boris Johnson] has been out-maneouvered and check-mated.
If he runs for leadership of the party, and then fails to follow through on triggering Article 50, then he is finished. If he does not run and effectively abandons the field, then he is finished. If he runs, wins and pulls the UK out of the EU, then it will all be over – Scotland will break away, there will be upheaval in Ireland, a recession … broken trade agreements. Then he is also finished. Boris Johnson knows all of this. When he acts like the dumb blond it is just that: an act.

About My Epic Week (I Interviewed Oprah), Dreams Realized and Lessons Re-Learned
    Awesomely Luvvie — June 21, 2016 5 53

“Your gift makes room for you and brings you before great men.”

Mannn, look. If that ain’t been my testimony, I don’t know what is, and last week was the epitome of that. I am still processing it all, but I had to write about it because it was surreal and I need to see it in print so I know it’s real.

    …………………………………………………………..

I got confirmation that I would be interviewing Mother Oprah too, and I was like HOLY SMOKES. The team at OWN were like “Just be you.” So when the show screening ended, I was given a microphone with OWN on it, and Oprah and Merle came and sat by me. And we just started talking like old buddies.

    …………………………………………………
At one point, I mentioned the hair of the character Oprah plays in Greenleaf. It’s an epic fro and you know how much I enjoy seeing folks rock hair that is big and BADDDD.

And I said “Up until 6 weeks ago, I had locs.”

    Oprah: You unloced!
Me: I unloced! I felt like it was time to let them go.
Oprah: Really? How long did you have them?
Me: 6 and a half years.
Oprah: Whoa. What’s going on with you, Luvvie?
Me: I’m stepping into a new phase in my life. I just wrote my first book. I felt like it was time to let them go.
Oprah: Ah, you’re moving on up.

CHILE, I DIE but I LIVE.

President Obama: 12,000 Inmates to Receive Pell Grants for College Study

The president announced a $30 million Second Chance Pell Grant pilot program on Friday.
    Posted: June 26, 2016

Even though Congress banned providing financial aid to prisoners in 1994, as many as 12,000 prison inmates will be able to use federal Pell grants to finance college classes next month, the White House announced on Friday.

The $30 million Second Chance Pell Grant pilot program, announced by President Obama, will be available to inmates at 141 state and federal correctional institutions, who will be able to use a federal Pell grant of up to $5,815 to pursue a two- or four-year degree from one of 67 approved colleges and universities.

Michelle Obama is packing for a trip to Africa with daughters Sasha and Malia.

The trio leave Sunday, with planned stops in Liberia and Morocco as part of the Let Girls Learn initiative, a program launched last year by President Obama and the first lady to encourage developing nations to educate the more than 62 million girls worldwide who don’t attend school.

The trip abroad will have additional star power – Meryl Streep and Freida Pinto will join along the way. In Liberia, the first lady will meet with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first elected female head of state in Africa, and have a discussion with local teenage girls, moderated by Pinto
