Diamond Reynolds & Daughter Dae’Anna | Eliihaas: “This Video is for Me”

Dae’Anna and her mommy on the Fourth of July, 2016.

This video clip is for me, almost as pertinent and damning a capture of the callous inhumanity that not only cold-bloodedly, dismissively, cavalierly, murderously disposes of …and where ‘fortunate’ or ‘benevolent’…only just only devalues black lives…

This video clip captures the core…the basis of my rage…

It captures the inhumanity…the heartlessness that invariably leads to the callous disposal of black lives…

It is the refusal to see black folks…

It is the callous detachment that even in the midst of death, murder…’unintentional’ tragedies by any name – no matter how ‘accidental’ or resulting from a ‘lack of training’, ‘fear’ – or any number of justifications offered up to excuse away or cover up for police whenever they murder innocent black folks in cold-blood …for no reason other than the color of their skin…

It is the callous refusal to see black people… to feel the pain, hurt, devastation, vulnerabilities …even in the midst of trauma and loss…of a black child…a black woman…

It is the callousness that prevents men who when in or out of uniform, would probably be quickly described by somebody as ‘good’, ‘God-fearing’, ‘family’ men…a callousness, complete detachment and absence of humanity that prevents these men in uniform who also are probably husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, nephews, uncles, cousins, friends….from humanely and instinctively reaching out to protect and comfort a scared and vulnerable child…and an obviously shaken and traumatized woman…

But no…

The same guys who when in and out of uniform value infinitely more the lives of the dogs in their K-9 units…and feel more a tinge of humanity for – and were probably disgusted at the loss of Cecil the Lion and Harambe the gorilla…are unable to feel any humanity – or spare a thought for…spontaneously set aside for even a moment – in the face of ‘unintended’ tragedy and obvious trauma – their ‘work’ stance and artificial ‘protocols’… to do the right thing by and for a harmless little black toddler…and her innocent distraught mother handcuffed for no reason minutes after her companion has been all in a flash, murdered in cold-blood during a routine traffic stop on an ordinary day..

It is that inability to see the humanity of a little black baby girl and her devastated black mother…the young black woman…lover, partner of the young innocent black man – that one of their own just murdered for no reason…It is that inability of their humanity to naturally and instinctively kick in …to empathize, sympathize….to embrace and instinctively reach out to protect the vulnerable black child and mother…to see them through humane eyes…to immediately seek to comfort them in a traumatic situation..

This is it right here before our eyes…this is where it all stems from…this is what’s telling…this is at the heart and lack thereof of the matter…this is a sampling…a capture of the inhumanity that drives the callous, unfeeling, inhumane response where even a black child, black woman…resides…It is that mindset that says a little black baby girl isn’t seen as innocent…and a black woman isn’t seen as vulnerable, or worthy of protection and chivalry…It is a mindset that completely devalues – and without any qualms or apologies …easily disposes of, and does away with any black life..

It isn’t just a matter of laws – though the thought of inconveniencing the more valuable and cush lives of other non-black folks in any way…that just might force changes…

But it is also the fact that even the ‘good’ Democratic Governor of Minnesota – just like his counterparts in Louisiana, Missouri, Florida, South Carolina, California…and any number of Democratic and Republican Governors and Attorney Generals…It is the fact that they hold black folks – consciously and unconsciously – with the very same sense of contempt…that they do not see black lives as valuable…that even where they themselves are black…that this society has conditioned them to view black lives as infinitely less valuable…just as they are unconsciously conditioned not to see a fully black child as ‘cute’…or a fully black woman as ‘desirable’…or worthy of respect and chivalry…

The hostile condescension of the ‘good’ Democratic Governor of Minnesota towards the Black Lives Matter movement last December – and his condescending smirk as he scoffed at the young Somali-American woman Stacey Rosana as she engaged Hillary Clinton who he accompanied on a campaign stop at a coffee shop in Minneapolis in March of this year…tells you all you need to know…

That condescension and dismissive and ‘marginally contained’ hostility – and that superior sense of how dare you lowly creature ….comes from the very same place…It is that mindset that easily disposes with those not deemed ‘valuable’ or worthy…

Sorry I haven’t been around these past days fam…sometimes when rage engulfs and overcomes ones spirit, it is best to step away …As wonderful and embracing and accommodating as our 3Chics owners are, it is still unfair to hijack and litter their space with ones uncontained anger…but tonight I have cried enough tears of fury and frustration…I wanted to come out of my isolation to let you know that I am still very much with you my fam.

    Riddle me this:

Does anyone seriously believe that black folks get up everyday and declare:

“Wow! Let me go out and become a target for white resentment, fear, and hate. Oh, and by the way, please profile me, harass me, and shoot to kill me as you see fit and we’ll remain silent, while you perform these heinous acts.”

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

No one in his/her right mind would chose to be silent and submit to the oppressive incidents that are happening around the country.

The “powers that be” behind the White structure system are trying every gimmick in the book to paint the Black Lives Matter/ Equal-Justice-advocating in a bad light. They don’t realize that a righteous cause can never be extinguished.

The courage and steadfast determination of those in this righteous cause remind me of the strength reflected in Labi Siffre’s lyrics

The higher you build your barriers the TALLER I become
The farther you take my rights away the FASTER I will run
You can deny me, you can decide to turn your face away
      No matter ’cause there’s

      Something inside SO STRONG
I know that I can make it
Though you’re doing me wrong so wrong
You thought that my pride was gone
Oh, no, something inside so strong
      There’s something inside so strong

The more you refuse to hear my voice the LOUDER I will sing
You hide behind walls of Jericho, your lies will come tumbling

      *tears*

I admire her courage and how she is bringing out how big this problem is and how so many have been affected.

      God bless her.

      • Ametia says:

Folks are looking for this grieving, vulnerable woman to comfort and reassure white folks that she doesn’t hate those cops.

        EMOTIONAL TERRORISM. N SO DISTURBING

      • yahtzeebutterfly says:

So upsetting … so cruel… so awful

    • Ametia says:

Cops shoot and murder Philando, her partner, and they ask her aout cops killed in Dallas.

See how they want a grieving black woman to cover for these ugly, evil POS cops who murder us? IT’S FUCKED UP.

SHORT: Tell us you don’t hate WHITE COPS/PEOPLE!

  2. Ametia says:

Will Diamond Reynolds VIDEO DIALOGUE & IMAGES be enough to convict those murdering cops?

Whereas the cops can just get in front of a camera and spew hear say about a suspect, after they’ve shot him dead, and he can’t speak for himself. We’re to believe the cops?

  3. rikyrah says:

    Ladies, check you email.

  4. rikyrah says:

Mike B is one of my favorite YouTube tv reviewers. He had this to say today. I felt him.

  5. rikyrah says:

    Ok.
So much of this makes no sense to me.
    Snipers
    Rifles
Bombs (???)-Black people don’t do bombs
Suspects getting away in a Mercedes Benz? ??
Police not killing suspected cop killers on sight?

Does not fit itself into a logical picture.

  6. That’s a big fucking gun

Eyewitness video of downtown Dallas shooting

  7. rikyrah says:

Thanks for this. It came to me this evening : Facebook Live saved her and her daughter’s lives.
I was resistant to learning about this feature.
Now, to all the people out there :
Put Facebook on your cell phone and learn how to work Facebook Live. It could save your life.

Look at this Chicas! The guy CNN is showing as a suspect is walking around in the video as shot rang out.

  9. eliihass says:

    Come on folks…

Snipers don’t walk around on the ground with their faces visible – as they mingle with the crowds and simultaneously take out police officers from rooftops…

    • rikyrah says:

They can in Texas. They can friggin walk around with assault rifles, right in the open. If they were here, in my state, you could declare suspicious someone you saw with an assault rifle. Not in Texas.

  10. eliihass says:

If only the police departments in many of these cities would actually utilize for preemptive good and better relations with the black community…these black police spokespeople they pull out front for press conferences when these tragedies occur…

It’s a shame that the focus is now taken from the cold-blooded murders of Alton and Philando…

  11. Liza says:

“It is that inability to see the humanity…”

And therein lies the core of the problem. Everything else emanates from this single truth.

    Thanks, Eliihass. Excellent post.

    • eliihass says:

Oh Liza…it’s all just so sad, maddening…

There’s absolutely no reason for all this..

      Unnecessary deaths all around…

Now we have too these police officers tonight in Dallas who also won’t ever get to go home to their own families ever…

And I often imagine that it just might be the good ones who end up being killed in these instances…

The consequences of guns all around have not been thought through…and once again, the concept of killing weapons as ubiquitous and good as candy – and to be as easily available and wielded by everyone, must be reconsidered…including its use by police…

  12. I am reading 10 officers shot in Dallas and 3 dead. 2 Snipers.

  13. Ametia says:

Diamond and her daughter suffering sheer terrorism, torture, on every level. The syPmtoms might now be as visible now, but they’ve been EMBEDDED.

    • eliihass says:

That frustrated scream she let out and then immediately suppressed… because you could tell she caught herself and remembered that her baby was watching – and she had to be brave for her and not alarm her…

The story of the black woman…always playing brave…always having to be stoic…keep it all together…even when she wants to fall apart…and have someone hold her and protect her…

This is how black women become hardened…this is how the ‘softness’ disappears…Always having to fight to survive…in the face of no protection or chivalry …

  14. Bring it, Eliihass. Thank you for helping us through this. I was so shook until I couldn’t make the thread. I had to ask Rikyrah to do it. Then I couldn’t sleep. Totally f’d me up! I wept bitter tears along with Alton Sterling’s child crying for his daddy and then to watch someone die on facebook live. I’m in a rage!

    • eliihass says:

      No, thank you SG..

Thanks to you and Ametia and Rikyrah for this place to commune and unburden and pray for better for our country and our world..

      • We’re so grateful for you and all of our commenters. Y’all help keep me sane. Some of this ISH tears me up, drains me. I lose hope sometimes. But y’all really really do give me strength.

  15. Ametia says:

Eliihaas, YOU DROP THAT TRUTH, LADY!

All these MOTHBALL Pols coming out of the closet can go somewhere, SIT THE FUCK DOWN & SHUT THE FUCK UP,

    ALSO TOO
