Tuesday Open Thread | Melania Trump plagiarized Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech

Melania TrumpYou can’t make this up, folks!

In her first major address before the nation on Monday night, Melania Trump appears to have plagiarized a number of lines from first lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention. The plagiarized passages, in bold below, concerned the importance of hard work and honesty.

“From a young age, my parents impressed on me the values that you work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say and keep your promise; that you treat people with respect,” Trump told the thousands of Republican delegates and assembled media on Monday night in Cleveland.

In 2008, Mrs. Obama said, “You work hard for what you want in life; that your word is your bond and you do what you say you’re going to do; that you treat people with dignity and respect, even if you don’t know them, and even if you don’t agree with them.”

You know, so many soulless, evil racists – including those from other countries living here on working visas and as guests of our country, but who do not believe that our black FLOTUS is deserving of the respect we extend their leaders and their families when we visit and temporarily reside in foreign nations…

So many of these soulless racists who are so long overdue for and deserving of Karmic comeuppance, have recently been finding themselves entangled and felled in Karma’s cross hairs..

I shared with my fam here a while ago about this despicable, evil twerp from the U.K working for Breitbart who was consistently and obsessively focused on attacking and denigrating FLOTUS…

Just found out by reading SG’s twitter feed that he’s been banned by Twitter…

Twitter took no stand and let him continue as he viciously maligned and disrespected the historic FLOTUS – attacking her in very personal ways and demeaning her and mocking her physical looks every time…and for no reason…what was curious was that he never seemed to have a problem with FLOTUS’ elected husband who he said he had a crush on..

Twitter suspending or banning Milo Yiannopoulos – for whatever reason and on behalf of whoever they somehow ‘value’ more than FLOTUS – is only a first step and still just only a teeny thing compared to what I know God surely has in store for this despicable lowlife a-hole …

    One small step for mankind…

Exclusive: Trump could seek new law to purge government of Obama appointees
    CLEVELAND | BY EMILY FLITTER

If he wins the presidency, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump would seek to purge the federal government of officials appointed by Democratic President Barack Obama and could ask Congress to pass legislation making it easier to fire public workers, Trump ally, Chris Christie, said on Tuesday.

Christie, who is governor of New Jersey and leads Trump’s White House transition team, said the campaign was drawing up a list of federal government employees to fire if Trump defeats Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the Nov. 8 presidential election.

Can’t stress enough how pleasantly shocked and impressed I was with Van Jones last night…How he boldly spoke up as part of a panel on CNN and told a pertinent truth so long overdue and so necessary…

He told his fellow panelists comprised of so many who had been as hostile and as extremely disrespectful of the historic black First Lady…as they were now fiercely circling protectively around, reverent and defensive of the immigrant white wife of the republican nominee who had not only plagiarized parts of her speech, but had also lied and claimed to have written much of it herself…

Van Jones reminded everyone on that panel – and those watching at home, that none of these same protections, excuse, diversions or defense would have been offered our First Lady – had the tables been turned and she was found plagiarizing – and worse, lied about writing the speech …or was caught lying about anything else for that matter…

Van Jones was visibly shaking with contained anger as he spoke…and in all the time I’ve paid attention, this has to be one of Van’s most honest, authentic and boldest moments…

The panel looked uneasy…uncomfortable, fidgety and irritated all at once as Van Jones spoke..

They couldn’t wait to move on…

I would have given my right arm to have Van Jones slap that smirk off the face of that gawd awful soulless Ana Navarro seated next to him….A crass, shallow, petty, despicable piece of opportunistic you know what, who has been very much a part of the problem…And every bit as guilty of the hate-filled rhetoric, disrespect and racism she now conveniently pretends to be ‘offended’ by…After of course being an active part of consistently maligning and whipping up the hate and hostility against our FLOTUS and POTUS for all these years…Her fleeting pretense of being ‘offended’ by Trump’s rhetoric – only now conveniently on display, because her preferred candidate – even more racist and hateful than Trump, lost in the GOP primaries…

Thank you Van Jones for doing better…Thank you for not demurring…for not mealy-mouthing – even when so many did…and others wanted you to play along …would rather you kept your mouth shut to stay in the good graces of your benefactors and employers at CNN..

Thank you for boldly and unequivocally speaking up for our historic FLOTUS when nobody else with any sort of voice or platform in the media – or elsewhere would…

Thank you Van Jones for calling out the double standards and for saying out loud and clear what so many have witnessed and known for all these years, but nobody ever cared enough – or had the guts to say..

Thank you Van Jones for demanding fair and equal treatment…dignity, respect, protection and chivalry for our historic FLOTUS as is routinely extended to other women in the public eye, but for some reason has been consistently denied our historic first black First Lady who is instead dehumanized and mercilessly demeaned and maligned – even by some of those seated on that panel with you…

Thank you for boldly speaking up even if it meant unnerving Anderson Cooper and potentially costing you your spot at CNN…

By this singular but pertinent act, Van Jones has forever earned my gratitude and respect…

    Thank you Van Jones..

LESLIE JONES’ MONDAY PERFECTLY SHITS ON THE RNC
    Joel Philip, 7/19/16

Ok wait. I know the title is really weird, but I promise you, this makes sense.
Yesterday, for reasons unknown (actually, that’s not true, we know why) racist trolls came out of the woodwork to completely disrespect Leslie Jones on a level that’s usually only heard of on a site like 4Chan. Except this was Twitter. It got to a point that Leslie, who usually blocks these trolls, decided to leave all of the comments open for all to read so they could see the levels of disgusting acts these pissants were throwing her way. It was literally non-stop post after post of nigger this, nigger that, pictures of apes, calling her ugly; the worst and yet the most uninspired vitriol at the same time.

It got to the point where the hashtag #LoveforLeslieJ was made so supporters of Leslie could counteract these attacks and show love. Now for one, this is directly related to Leslie starring in the Ghostbusters remake that came out this past Friday. Secondly, Leslie has been dealing with beauty & race issues her whole life, so the names and hurtful comments made yesterday were nothing she’s not seen before. But I can imagine the onslaught of them in one day was highly unexpected (special shotout to Twitter’s mods for not doing jack shit about it either).

    ……………………………..

However the reason I bring up Leslie & the RNC is because of one Sheriff David Clarke from Wisconsin, who presented a rousing speech, if you will, on Donald Trumps’ behalf last night, which got me to thinking after the entire convention gave him a standing ovation: this America always wanted a Black person to look a certain way, speak a certain way, complete a certain task, and embrace a certain ideology in order to be their friend.

THE RNC: WHERE STEVE KING DEFENDS WHITE SUPREMACY AND MELANIA TRUMP DISPROVES IT
    Damon Young, 7/19/16

Admittedly, after being indoctrinated by decades of politician double-speak, colloquialism, and dog-whistling — plus the screen reiterations of these types of verbal machinations on shows like House of Cards and even Game of Thrones — it’s quite refreshing to hear a politician do what Congressman Steve King did yesterday. Even if what he actually said — that no one besides White people have done shit to contribute to civilization — was abhorrent and absurd, I appreciate him saying it. You just don’t get many opportunities to watch someone with an actual job and a title and a staff go full racist on national TV.

Seriously, if you haven’t yet, please watch Rep. King articulate his feelings about “sub-groups.” Witness how he effectively mutates into a transubstantiated version of a Twitter troll with an egg profile. Pay attention to how the rest of the panel stares in abject horror and sheer befuddlement, like they’re watching a rhesus monkey attempting to fuck a head of lettuce. Listen to April Ryan say “Woo” at the 44 second mark, which can totally be translated to “if someone doesn’t take this silly White man back to his shift at the Cracker Barrel right now, blood will rise and fists will rain.” It’ll be the second best thing you’ll see all day.

    ……………………………

I won’t say too much more about poor Melania, because every joke worth making has already been made. Instead, I’ll just say that the only person feeling worse than her about her speech this morning is Steve King. All that fuss about the master race. And then, a couple hours later, the Grand Wizard’s wife refutes that entire argument by stealing the words from a regular Black girl from the South Side.

Texas Textbook: Mexican Americans Don’t Work ‘Vigorously,’ Want To ‘Destroy’ Society
    BY CASEY QUINLAN
    JUL 19, 2016 10:23 AM

A proposed textbook about Mexican-American history that would be read by Texas high school students is filled with inaccuracies and stereotypes about Mexican Americans, said a coalition of educators opposing the publication of the textbook.

Latino activists and educators have been urging the Texas State Board of Education to allow for more coverage of Latino Americans in the textbooks it reviews, so when a textbook on Mexican Americans was included among the textbooks to be considered for the school year of 2017-2018, it appeared to be a win for those advocates. But when excerpts from the textbook were released, it became clear to advocates for more inclusion of Latino American history that the book was far more harmful than helpful.

Among the issues educators, scholars, and activists take with the book is its representation of Mexican Americans as lazy. The coalition, called The Responsible Ethnic Studies Textbook Coalition, includes the ACLU of Texas, Texas Latino Education Coalition, and Mexican American School Board Members Association. On Monday, this newly formed coalition criticized what they called “offensive cultural stereotypes,” according to The Washington Post, that were found in excerpts that called Industrialists “driven” but said Mexican laborers “were not reared to put in a full day’s work so vigorously.”

Scholars have also objected to a passage of the textbook that equated the Chicano Movement in the 1960s that encouraged Mexican Americans to fight for better working conditions and voting rights with a “revolutionary narrative that opposed Western civilization and wanted to destroy this society,” according to The Washington Post.

Leslie Jones’ Twitter abuse is a deliberate campaign of hate

This isn’t a harmless prank, this isn’t about hurt feelings or even the sting of a racist comment. This is an attempt to keep us off the internet
    Tuesday 19 July 2016 14.53 EDT

Many on the internet were shocked and appalled when Leslie Jones, star of the recent blockbuster Ghostbusters, started retweeting some of the racist and misogynistic abuse she has been receiving in recent days. But just as there were articles and tweets going out standing in solidarity with Jones and expressing outrage at the abuse, there were those who quickly wrote it off.

Some said the tweets were just mean pranks by kids, others said they were “to be expected” for the internet, even more criticized Jones for supposedly “encouraging” trolls by not ignoring them.

But many other women of color – especially black women – on the internet face the same abuse that Jones is now facing, and we will tell you that this isn’t a harmless prank, this isn’t about hurt feelings or even the sting of a racist comment. This is a deliberate campaign of abuse perpetrated on us to keep us off of the internet, and it needs to be taken seriously.

I remember the first time I noticed coordinated attacks against me. One day, a few years ago, I started suddenly receiving a large amount of hate-filled tweets from people who appeared to be neo-Nazis. Dozens of tweets from people with swastikas in their profile pictures were comparing me to gorillas, calling me a welfare queen, showing pictures of hanged black men and women, calling me every racial slur out there and some that may have just been invented that day for those very tweets.

Yes, I had received racist tweets in the past – at least a few each day, but this was different. This was a sea of hate doing its best to engulf me. Finally, one of my followers sent me a link that explained what was happening– somebody had created a thread about me on a neo-Nazi site. I had some tweets about race that had been picked up by national press, and this neo-Nazi group had decided that this was too much legitimacy for a black woman to have, so they fired up their troops with screenshots of my tweets and information about where to find me on social media. Their goal was to harass me off of the internet because my voice was considered a threat.

Rep. Steve King Clarifies Remarks About ‘White People’ Doing More for Civilization
    Jul 19, 2016, 8:43 AM ET

Rep. Steve King clarified his controversial comments about “white people” doing more for civilization than any other “subgroup,” explaining that he was actually referring to “Western civilization.”

The Iowa Republican had said Monday afternoon on an MSNBC panel, “This whole white people business, though, does get a little tired. … I’d ask you to go back through history and figure out where are these contributions that have been made by these other categories of people that you are talking about. Where did any other subgroup of people contribute more to civilization?”

He didn’t back away from his comments in an interview with ABC News Monday night, but said he meant to refer to “Western civilization” as the “superior culture” when he said “the whole white peoples business” line.

“It’s pretty close [to what I said]. What I really said was ‘Western civilization’ and when you describe Western civilization that can mean much of Western civilization happens to be Caucasians. But we should not apologize for our culture or our civilization,” King told ABC News.

It still won’t change the evil culture..

The evil is deeply embedded…and has only attracted, gripped harder and deeply contaminated and mired further in the sewer, souls that were already very evil..

As long as Rupert Murdoch owns that outfit…and as long as the likes of Sean Hannity et al anchor seats there..and an evil soul is the prerequisite for hire, FOX will remain sewer fresh..

All Rupert Murdoch and his sons have managed to do is remove a man who had over the years become too powerful and actually a threat to Rupert Murdoch in many ways…Just a few years ago, Ailes could have easily pulled off a revolt against Murdoch at his own company…

Sometimes when opportunities present themselves, it’s a good a time as any for folks like Murdoch to rid themselves of a guy who had too much over him and in many ways had become a dangerous threat to him..

This was not about doing the honorable thing…or even about avoiding a fallout legally…

None of the players: not Ailes, not Murdoch, not Gretchen Carlson, not Megyn Kelly…nobody at FOX knows what ‘honorable’ means or feels like…

But you have to admit that there’s a certain Karmic satisfaction from seeing the televised downfall of all these horrid people…

I can’t say it enough, contrary to what so many think, God is still in charge and will certainly always have the final say…

But even more important is the indisputable fact that God has the ultimate sense of humor…and if we wait and just let Him, he’ll not only make it worth our while…he’ll even let us watch…

Do police treat Black Lives Matter and ‘White Lives Matter’ differently?

…‘No confrontation’ with White Lives Matter

The night of Noble’s death, his friends gathered at the Chevron gas station where he was killed, and an impromptu vigil eventually morphed into a chaotic protest against police.

According to officers and protesters, some started setting off fireworks and doing “doughnuts” and “burnouts” with their cars – driving in circles and spinning their wheels. Some shouted “fuck the police” and eventually a crowd took over the road, standing with their arms in the air blocking traffic. One protester allegedly threw a glass object at police.

The event made national headlines after some protesters held up a Confederate flag and “White Lives Matter” sign – an appropriation of the Black Lives Matter movement that seeks to raise awareness about the high rates of police violence against African Americans.

Friends of Noble said the protests were misunderstood and that they were only trying to draw attention to the unjustifiable and horrific killing by police.

Police, meanwhile, were deliberately passive in their response to the protest.

“We do everything we can to deescalate the situation,” police chief Jerry Dyer told the Guardian days after the rally. “There was absolutely no confrontation.”

One officer even allowed a protester to use the police loudspeaker to address the crowd, which a local TV station caught on camera.

“Tempers were flaring on both sides,” recalled Bryce Lindlahr, the protester who used the police PA system to encourage the crowd to be peaceful and focus on mourning their friend.

There were no arrests or citations, according to police captain Andy Hall, and the gathering dissipated.
