There would have been a time when the only athlete a Black woman in a commercial could have been was someone on track and field. But, now, she’s a gymast…a swimmer…a fencer…and it’s not ‘wild’- it’s REALITY BASED.

A some point we need to stop falling for the okey-doke…stop turning a blind eye…stop living in denial…conveniently ignoring the glaring disingenuity …accompanied with faux-expressions of ‘shock’, ‘outrage’, ‘offense’ …or the very selective and fleeting appropriation and exploitation of certain race-based sensitivities – but not the ones that are straight up killing us which they oh so very conveniently ignore – or still find subtle and not so subtle ways to blame black folks for –

    The double-speak …the double-standards…unending..

Folks need to stop pretending not to notice the obvious untruths …the convenient distortions and glossing over of glaring unpleasant facts…Stop being manipulated …stop making excuses…stop falling for the distractions and the diversionary tactics that don’t even pretend to respect folks’ intelligence.. the ooohh, scary-scary tactic that was up until recently all but cheers, praise for and egging on of one that was deemed ‘gracious’ and a great pal…

Or the lesser of 2 evils argument designed precisely to coax folks into rallying and voting for an outcome that was already pre-set and agreed upon …and long before even a single vote was ever cast –

A so-called lesser evil that brazenly rigged their way into a quasi primary and ‘historic’ nomination…the culmination of a pre-decided coronation that was only briefly derailed by an unassuming outsider from Vermont who initially refused to play along – and for a while there, threatened to upend the well-laid plans and pay to play deals hashed out long ago in smoke-filled rooms…and long before anyone even ever thought Trump would be in the running – or even remotely be considered the GOP nominee..

Folks gotta stop falling for the deceit and trickery…stop being useful idiots, firewalls …stop rah-rah-ing for narcissists, megalomaniacs – a.k.a politicians – out entirely for their own personal, political and legacy ambitions… Politicians have never really been in it for …or about looking out for the least of us primarily – especially if it in any way poses a threat to their own secure place of ‘glory’ – or their ‘favorability’ and poll numbers…Ask Freddie Gray, Tamir Rice, Korryn Gaines and their families… It is and always will be first and foremost, all about tweaking and stroking their huge egos…and constantly making their ‘big moves’ and power plays – and only to keep themselves ‘relevant’, ‘powerful’, ‘influential’ – and where possible, superficially ‘swoon-worthy’ for the long term…It’s all about the survival of the political fittest and taking and keeping ones desired place at the top…

And the constant jostling for power and outwitting each other to stay on top, never really ends…

Wow. Clinton certainly must have improved herself in eight years. :) Ms. Elii, a good friend of mine, now deceased, would say this is the f*ing you give for the f*ing you got. Sorry to be so crass, but that seems to be the very basis of almost all political careers.

Bottom line: We get to make the choice of who to blacken the oval for, each and every one of us.

Beyond 2016: Obama’s library and legacy
This week, organizers formally announced the Obama’s library will be built in Jackson Park on Chicago’s South Side. Columnist for the Chicago Tribune, Clarence Page, joins Rev. Al Sharpton to discuss what the President’s library will mean for that neighborhood

CURTIS “50 CENT” JACKSON SAYS HE’S BRINGING A BLACK MAFIA FAMILY PROJECT TO STARZ
    AUGUST 4, 2016

    …………………………….

“[There are] so many people involved,” Fiddy said, speaking to how elaborate the B.M.F. story is. “We have so much true [content]… People know the surface parts, but what makes the [B.M.F.] become that? That’s more interesting to me than the actual outcome.”

The suggestion here is that the Starz series (we assume) will tell the story of how the Black mafia Family became the Black Mafia Family – the notorious drug cartel created in Detroit, Michigan in the late 1980s, by Demetrius “Big Meech” and Terry Flenory. Over the following decade, their organization grew into a hugely successful nationwide enterprise, as they began to use their financial gains in the drug game to branch out into other businesses, like creating a hip-hop music label called BMF Entertainment, promoting the careers of artists, some fairly well known, like Young Jeezy.

But the castle they built all came crashing down in the mid-2000s, when they were busted, indicted and convicted on charges of running a criminal enterprise that allegedly grossed over $270 million during the period of its existence. Both brothers were sentenced to prison for 30 years to life. Other members of their organization would also face jail sentences.

That’s the shortened version of their story.

WARNER HOME VIDEO TO RELEASE PRINCE 3-DISC BLU-RAY COLLECTION SET IN OCTOBER
    AUGUST 5, 2016
    SERGIO MIMS

Warner Home Video announced today that it will release a new 3-disc blu-ray set that will include the 3 feature films the late Prince made for Warner Bros – “Purple Rain, “Under the Cherry Moon” and “Graffiti Bridge” – on October 4th.

Though it might look like a cash-grab, exploiting the death of the music icon, it’s very possible that this set was already in the works long before Prince died this year; and though “Purple Rain” (which was previously released on blu-ray in 2007) is considered by many to be Prince’s cinematic classic, “Under the Cherry Moon” (1986) , which was written and directed by Prince, has developed something of a real cult following, and definitely has its admirers.

NYPD Chief Bill Bratton’s Next Stop: Private Consulting Firm Tied to the Clintons

    AUGUST 03, 2016

On Tuesday, New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton announced he is resigning next month. Bratton has served as the NYPD commissioner twice. He’s also served as head of the Boston and Los Angeles police departments. But Bratton’s resignation doesn’t mean he’s retiring. His next job will be at Teneo Holdings, a global private consulting firm with controversial ties to Hillary Clinton. Bratton will be the chairperson of a new branch of the company called Teneo Risk. For more, we speak with Christina Heatherton, assistant professor of American studies at Trinity College. She’s co-editor of “Policing the Planet: Why the Policing Crisis Led to Black Lives Matter.”

    http://www.democracynow.org/2016/8/3/nypd_chief_bill_brattons_next_stop

    • Liza says:

AMY GOODMAN: And Teneo’s links to the Clinton—the Clintons?

CHRISTINA HEATHERTON: Right. So, this is a firm that was founded by one of—by Bill Clinton’s former bagman. He’s somebody who’s been a key part of the Clinton Global Initiative. He headed the Clinton Institute in Ireland. This is Douglas [Band]. And I think what’s important to think about in this regard is that, you know, ostensibly, this is a Democratic firm or a ties with—an organization with deep Democratic ties that Bratton is about to move to. Bill Clinton, as well as Tony Blair, used to be on the board of this organization. And I think what’s important about that is that the most egregious violations of broken windows policing around the country have actually been enforced under Democratic mayors, liberal mayors, mayors like Bill de Blasio in New York, mayors like Antonio Villaraigosa in Los Angeles, mayors like Martin O’Malley. And so, when we think about the legacy of broken windows, it’s a mistake to think about this as just a Democrat-Republican, left-or-right issue. This has had bipartisan consensus, and this is evidenced by Bratton’s new job.

    • Liza says:

CHRISTINA HEATHERTON: ….Throughout his career, Bratton has consulted with private security firms. He has consulted with foreign governments. He has been a part of efforts to export the broken windows policing model around the world.

And what we talk about in Policing the Planet is how broken windows policing is the political expression of neoliberalism at the urban scale. And what do I mean by this? Broken windows policing emerges in the period of deindustrialization. It emerges as you have an expansion of unemployment and homelessness. It emerges as you have the expansion of the real estate sector and financialization. So, suddenly, you have a lot of people who are out of work and out of homes in a landscape littered with actual broken windows. By turning those people into criminal problems, problems that the police are supposed to manage, versus other sectors of the state, you can facilitate the transformation of cities into sites of capital accumulation. This is what’s being exported. This is what’s being globalized. This is Bratton’s legacy. And this is how broken windows policing has traversed the world.

    • Liza says:

And, of course, Hillary Clinton is the one leopard in all of history that will change its spots.

All I can say is that this is the crisis from hell.

there is absolutely NOTHING that’s being revealed that would make me say..
    REALLY? REALLY?

EVERYTHING that’s being revealed is EXACTLY WHO we thought Ailes was…and EXACTLY what we thought Fox Noise was.

    NOTHING is surprising.

Roger Ailes Used Fox News Budget to Finance ‘Black Room’ Campaigns Against His Enemies

Ailes Used Fox Budget to Run Campaigns Against Enemies
    August 7, 2016

Gabriel Sherman: “As Rupert Murdoch seeks to stabilize Fox News in the wake of Roger Ailes’s ouster, a crucial question remains unanswered: How was Ailes able to spend millions of dollars to settle sexual harassment claims without it setting off alarm bells?”

“But with Ailes gone, Fox executives are now looking closely at how Ailes spent Fox money. And what they are discovering is that, beyond the sexual harassment claims, Ailes was also able to use portions of the Fox budget to hire consultants, political operatives, and private detectives that reported only to him… Last week, according to the source, Fox News dismissed five consultants whom Ailes had hired to do work that was more about advancing his own agenda than Fox’s.”
