Soaring insulin prices have diabetics feeling the pain
    August 25, 2016, 6:00 AM

Insulin is fast becoming a medication that only the well-insured or well-heeled diabetic can afford.

With the price of insulin more than tripling in a decade, some diabetics are having to make tough choices about how to pay for the medication. In some cases, diabetics are cutting back or even going without the drug. Many of the 26 million Americans with diabetes must use insulin daily to treat the disease, or else risk illnesses such as kidney failure and disabilities such as blindness.

While American diabetics may have faced monthly costs of $100 to $200 several years ago, some are now grappling with costs of $400 to $500 per month.

    From POU:

The main thing people are upset about with Kaerpernick is not him dissing the flag or the anthem. It’s that a black man yes I know he’s of mixed heritage but once he made white folks angry that’s not what they see. Now as I was saying white folks particularly white men are upset because a black man dared step up to say enough. They’re mad that he stepped out of that zone they put him to speak his mind and it makes them uncomfortable. It’s also about fear too, they fear him doing this will empower other people to do the same. And at the end of the day that’s what it’s all about, keeping black folks in particular black men in their place. When we stand up together we’re strong and they can’t have that now can they.

The GOP’s Stealth War Against Voters
The Crosscheck program is a response to the imaginary menace of mass voter fraud.
By Greg Palast 4 days ago

When Donald Trump claimed, “the election’s going to be rigged,” he wasn’t entirely wrong. But the threat was not, as Trump warned, from Americans committing the crime of “voting many, many times.” What’s far more likely to undermine democracy in November is the culmination of a decade-long Republican effort to disenfranchise voters under the guise of battling voter fraud. The latest tool: Election officials in more than two dozen states have compiled lists of citizens whom they allege could be registered in more than one state – thus potentially able to cast multiple ballots – and eligible to be purged from the voter rolls.

The data is processed through a system called the Interstate Voter Registration Crosscheck Program, which is being promoted by a powerful Republican operative, and its lists of potential duplicate voters are kept confidential. But Rolling Stone obtained a portion of the list and the names of 1 million targeted voters. According to our analysis, the Crosscheck list disproportionately threatens solid Democratic constituencies: young, black, Hispanic and Asian-American voters – with some of the biggest possible purges underway in Ohio and North Carolina, two crucial swing states with tight Senate races.
