Well, HRC has lost some ground in Nate Silver’s forecast. Iowa, North Carolina, and Ohio have turned pink (but are still up for grabs, of course). Trump would have to win those states plus Florida and New Hampshire, but right now HRC and Trump are split at about 62 / 37 percent probability of winning in November.

Can this really be happening? Apparently so.

Poll Shows Tight Race for Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton
      By GIOVANNI RUSSONELLOSEPT. 15, 2016

With less than eight weeks before Election Day, Donald J. Trump and Hillary Clinton are locked in a tight contest, with both candidates still struggling to win the confidence of their respective bases, the latest New York Times/CBS News poll finds.

Mrs. Clinton, the Democratic nominee, has the support of 46 percent of likely voters nationwide, to 44 percent for Mr. Trump, the Republican, including those who said they were leaning toward a candidate. Looking more broadly at all registered voters, Mrs. Clinton holds a wider edge, 46 to 41 percent.

Discontent with the major party candidates is widespread. Among those who say they intend to vote for Mr. Trump or Mrs. Clinton, slightly more than half express strong support. The rest say that they harbor reservations about their candidate, or that they are simply voting to thwart the other nominee.

Over all, just 43 percent of likely voters describe themselves as very enthusiastic about casting a ballot in November. Fifty-one percent of Mr. Trump’s supporters say they are very enthusiastic about voting; 43 percent of Mrs. Clinton’s supporters say they are very enthusiastic.

The race has clearly grown tighter in recent weeks. National polling averages show that Mrs. Clinton’s margin over Mr. Trump has narrowed from eight points in early August to two points today.

Robert Reich posted this on Facebook yesterday:

4 reasons I’m starting to get worried:
      1. The polls are narrowing: Five weeks ago, Hillary Clinton was up by 8 points. Now she’s up by 1.8 points, according to the RealClearPolitics average of the national polls. That same average of national polls shows Trump has now pulled ahead in Florida, Ohio, Iowa, and Arizona—four crucial battleground states.

      2. Clinton’s campaign spending doesn’t seem to be working: During this period, Clinton has been outspending Trump by a margin of 10-to-1 on TV ads.

      3. Trump supporters are more enthusiastic: A new Washington Post-ABC News poll shows that 93% of Trump supporters say they are absolutely certain to vote. But only about 80% of Hillary Clinton’s supporters are that committed to turning out.

      4. There are lots of them: Trump got the most primary votes of any Republican presidential candidate in history. Meanwhile, despite the engaging and substantive contest between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton, turnout for Democrats was down in the primary compared to 2008.

      5. Authoritarian populism is breaking out all over the world: Yesterday, polling guru Nate Silver said the race has become “highly competitive,” and noted the race has “echoes of Brexit,” in which a right-wing populist surge forced Britain out of the European Union.
Maybe I’m being unduly alarmist, but, frankly, I don’t think the Democratic Party is being alarmist enough. Trump could win.

      What do you think?

    • Liza says:

Correction to “Trump would have to win those states plus Florida and New Hampshire…”. In Nate Silver’s forecast, Trump would also have to win Nevada.

It still looks highly improbable. Despite all the bad news about Hillary, she’s still the likely winner.

But voter turnout is the big unknown. People are supposed to turnout in droves because “Trump is a monster” but that may not be as successful a strategy as the Democrats hope for.

Latest update (about 1/2 hour ago) has HRC losing more ground. Florida turned pink.
      http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/

I read that Bernie Sanders is going to Ohio to try to help Hillary.

I’m at a loss here. Is this a train wreck in slow motion or is this a just low point for HRC brought on by recent events? Who knows?

  7. Ok, that’s good but where is the jail time for the killer/s?

Report: Sandra Bland’s family reaches settlement in civil suit

Attorneys for the family of Sandra Bland told KTRK-TV they’ve reached a settlement in a civil lawsuit against the Waller County Sheriff’s Office.

The Texas Department of Public Safety and the Waller County Jail will have to pay $1.9 million per that settlement. DPS is on the hook for $100,000 while Waller pays the rest.

In July 2015, a state trooper arrested Bland during a traffic stop, alleging she had assaulted him. Three days later, the 28-year-old woman committed suicide while in Waller County Jail.

Geneva Reed-Veal, her mother, filed a civil lawsuit against against several Waller county officials, the Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, Waller County and two of its jailers.

On September 15, 1963 the horrific bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama killed Addie Mae Collins, Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson and Carol Denise McNair. It was an evil act of terrorism that took their precious, treasured lives. The memory of the news I heard that day still shakes my heart and makes me tremble for them and their loved ones.

The following video of the “Ballad of Birmingham” brings me to tears.

Cosmopolitan Magazine did an interview with Ivanka about that bullshyt leave policy that she’s been shilling. And, lo and behold, they had ‘the nerve’ to actually get into the weeds and ask her serious questions about it . Of course, she cut the interview short.

So I think that you have a lot of negativity in these questions, and I think my father has put forth a very comprehensive and really revolutionary plan to deal with a lot of issues. So I don’t know how useful it is to spend too much time with you on this if you’re going to make a comment like that.

Ha ha. Well, that was much needed albeit temporary relief from the true horrors of this 2016 election.

Yep, the crisp and starched and impeccably groomed general talks and thinks just like regular folk. I was LMAO about that “dicking bimbos” email. But then I kept thinking about it. “Could this be true?” “HOW could this be true?” Someone is going to have to hide Bill’s Viagra everyday if HRC makes it to November 8 and gets elected.

    Good Morning 😊, Everyone 😆
