I have watched with much incredulity and amusement as the very same folks who gleefully cheered Trump on in 2011 and onward, for his birther humiliation of the President they all so badly wanted to see taken down a peg or two…as these same folks now clutch their pearls and pretend as if they were always offended…

As if they had all along spoken out against Trump’s birtherism all these years instead of boosting him and hosting him as their guest at the WH Correspondents Dinner… hoping against hope that he’d further humiliate or stare down the President…

The birtherism that originated from and was brazenly nurtured and emboldened only by Trump’s dear friends the Clintons … the same folks who gave the right -wingers who were initially unsure just how far they could go with their racism, permission to cross all acceptable decency boundaries…

The Clintons who never uttered a word in defense of the Obamas – or against Trump all these years…and even actively courted Trump – his friendship and his donations to their foundation and campaigns – until a few months ago when Trump suddenly became a real threat to Hillary’s Oval office ambitions… and inconvenient..

We never ever heard from the CBC …Even Angela Rye who worked for them was as hostile as ever then to the President …each of them quick to put out their disclaimers and almost contemptuous retorts that showed that they were not ‘in the tank for Obama’ …and rewarded with gigs to be the black face constantly expressing dissatisfaction and disapproval of the President ..

Even Joy Ann Reid for so long had a hard time properly addressing the President with his title…always dismissively referring to him as ‘Barack Obama’ – even after she was called out about it again and again..

Harry Reid never so forcefully pushed back on Trump or any of the right-wingers spouting their birther racist stuff all these years..

But we are now being asked to believe in all their retroactive pearl-clutching and faux-disgust…as they now invoke again and again the very same birtherism they co-signed and never denounced…and all the racist stuff they all either turned a blind eye to, were indifferent to, and in some instances, actively cheered on, or simply snickered about…delighted that someone was finally putting ‘Obama’ in his place…

So many folks are suffering from convenient amnesia…

They really do speak as though they really believe our collective memory is zero. But what they are counting on is that they won’t get called out.

But everything is related. The worse the candidate, the more the lies, the more the nonsense, and less focus on what matters.

  3. Michelle was on fire! Lord, I hate to see them leave.

    For old times sakes, folks

    • eliihass says:

      She’s fantastic…

My heart breaks that she not only has to be out once again campaigning when she really should be finally unwinding and relaxing after all the stresses and traumas of the past 8+ years …and after nobody looked out for her or fought for her ever…

Now she’s expected to be a good sport and put her sweat, tears, reputation, credibility on the line…and deplete her hard-won favorability numbers…And all for folks who never gave a damn about her – and actually were part of clobbering, denigrating, dehumanizing, disrespecting, undermining and disregarding her all these years..

      I just can’t..

    • Liza says:

Well, IMHO, David Brooks is just noise. Sadly, he has a platform, but he’s still a fool. Flags and anthems and rituals do not bind diverse people nor do they provide “a sense that we are all in this together.” When those “ideas” that are “bigger and more transcendent than our own short lives” are never developed or brought to fruition for so many people for so many years, we should still expect them to revere symbols and traditions?

Which is more important? Protesting state sanctioned violence against black citizens to bring about change or having young black athletes stand up with their right hands over their hearts and tears in their eyes to proclaim America’s goodness to all its citizens (when they know it’s a lie)?

  5. What’s so disgustingly shameful is the media acting like Trump saying President Obama was born in America is news? The MEDIA is the enemy.

    • Liza says:

I will always believe that what started Trump’s presidential bid is his pathological hatred for President Obama which is both personal and racist. And I also believe that what goes on in Trump’s mind is even worse than what has been revealed.

  6. #birtherism This was the dumbest ISH I’ve ever seen coming from a presidential candidate. Why is the media entertaining this nonsense?

  7. Thank you all for your prayers, well wishes and love.

  8. rikyrah says:

Don’t let the smoke and mirrors fool you. Trump is birtherism. Always has been. He created, nurtured and fed on it. Still does.

Trump needs to say it himself. On camera. And admit he was wrong for trying to delegitimize the country’s first African American President

HRC now on Trump birtherism: “He did it again… This man wants to be our next President? When will he stop this ugliness, this bigotry?”

    — Brian Fallon (@brianefallon) September 16, 2016

He needs to apologize to @POTUS and the Nation.

The ‘me-fia’ (media) is using the smoke & mirrors.

Both candidates are BIRTHERS, LIERS, FLAWED beyond belief. And they are who we have to chose from? HELL NO!

And this is now an issue in an election year?

PBO has served 8 years in that HELL HOLE called the DC. beltway.

      CRINGING!!!

One gaffe can make HRC have a bad week compared to the dozens of negative actions and lies that Trump and his surrogates put out in ONE DAY!

when your campaign is trying to clean up Holocaust and birther messes….but she’s having the bad week?

Should Democrats Be Nervous About the Presidential Election?
    by Nancy LeTourneau

In August, the presidential election was looking like a Clinton landslide. This month, the race has tightened and some people are suggesting that Democrats should be nervous. Here’s Ed Kilgore:

Those who have laughed off Donald Trump’s chances while believing his election would represent a turn for the worse in their own lives should be nervous right now.

On the other hand, Sam Wang says otherwise.

My reason for generating the best prediction I can is to reduce the noise of campaign news. I thought it would clear mental space for thinking about policies, or downticket issues…

Because of intense polarization, few voters are movable. The calculation says that Clinton’s win probability is 90%…

Still, the comment section is still peppered with anxious questions about Clinton’s chances. Honestly, some liberals can be total ninnies.

Wang says Clinton’s probability of winning is 90%. The Upshot has it at 76%. FiveThirtyEight says its at 64%. In other words, none of them are saying that Trump has more than a 36% chance of winning. Those are not great odds for him. If this were any other presidential election in recent memory, it would constitute pretty good news for Democrats. But coming off the talk about a landslide, it has some people worried.

Much of that concern comes from the fact that polling in swing states has tightened. So let’s take a look at that. Here is Sam Wang’s latest electoral map.

    • Liza says:

I follow Nate Silver because he was 50 for 50 in 2012, he uses public polls and he seems to have good methods for how the various polls are weighted. This morning he has about a 60 /40 split for Hillary / Trump, which is the same as it was the third week of July. However, quite a few battleground states are on the margin and could go either way. But the overall landscape still looks like an Democratic win in Ohio or Florida or North Carolina would seal the deal for Clinton even though she could win without them as long as she wins all the states that are currently blue.
