    Takes a U.K news organization to report the important work our First Lady is doing…Just got to this link from a tweet I just read…

    “..Michelle Obama’s girl-focused education charity has raised more than $3.5 billion in little over a year since it was launched.

    Let Girls Learn, a global initiative which aims to get 62 million girls into school, came about in partnership with activist Malala Yousafzai, who was shot in the head by the Taliban four years ago for demonstrating her right to go to school.

    Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly spousal programme, the first lady said that the charity had raised nearly $600 million from countries like Japan, South Korea and Mexico, as well as more than half a billion dollars from the US.

    Ms Obama added that she has fostered networks with close to 80 companies that were committing money and resources.

    “All of this is happening because, time and again, whether it’s a head of state, a corporate CEO, or a 15-year-old girl here in the US, when people hear the stories of girls who aren’t in school, they want to help,” she said…”

    FLOTUS will be on the Tonight Show with Stephen Colbert tonight…

    As part of activities during their final United States General Assembly currently in progress, FLOTUS apparently hosted the spouses of Heads of State yesterday to a mix of girl-focused Broadway shows to shine a light on the plight of #62millions girls – and benefiting FLOTUS’ Let Girls Learn initiative. The audience at yesterday’s event also included local schoolgirls, Girls Scouts troops, and Inaugural fellows of Let Girls Learn – consisting of young girls and women from the various 3rd world countries where Let Girls Learn programs are already being implemented by the Peace Corps. (Entertainment with a purpose.)

    Stephen Colbert emceed the event for FLOTUS and FLOTUS is returning the favor and will be on his show tonight bringing along with her amongst other, the young women Let Girls Learn fellows..

    Trump campaign reporters no longer in motorcade

    The Donald Trump campaign has reversed a move that was meant to improve logistics for the traveling media. Reporters following Trump as part of his pool will no longer travel in the candidate’s motorcade.

    According to an email sent by organizers of the Trump press pool, the campaign said it was the Secret Service’s decision to remove the press pool from the motorcade as their resources are being stretched too thin amid a “heightened state of security” to keep the press’ plane clean.

    “We have communicated that this is an issue that the campaign should have spotted long ago and are vigorously protesting the decision,” an email from the pool chairs said. “We have told the campaign that if they are truly committed to transparency, than [sic] they should place the pool on Trump’s plane so it is a truly protective pool. They have not been responsive to that request.”

    On Monday, the journalists following Trump began to fly on a new “chase” plane which would more closely follow Trump’s plane, and were told they would now travel within the Trump motorcade. The move, which the campaign said was in the works for weeks, was expected to help prevent instances such as last week, when Trump’s press pool, caught in traffic on the way from a different airport, was late to a Trump rally in New Hampshire. Instead of delaying his rally, Trump mocked the press for being late.

    By not being in the motorcade, the pool will have to contend with normal traffic, making it more likely that they could miss or be late to other events. The Trump press pool has been lobbying to travel with Trump on his plane, a move which would solve these logistical problems, and one his campaign has signaled will likely never happen. Nearly all previous presidential candidates, including Hillary Clinton, have their traveling press corps with them on their planes by this point in the campaign.

    The reversal is the latest in a series of events that has seriously frustrated the reporters who cover Trump. From the campaign blacklisting certain outlets, to the candidate himself calling out certain reporters he feels are unfair (NBC’s Katy Tur was once escorted out of a rally by Secret Service for her own protection after Trump called her out), the reporters following Trump have had to deal with a seemingly never-ending series of roadblocks.

    Could WI’s Approach to Voter ID Get Even More Disgusting?

    One of the arguments that is often made in favor of mandatory voter id is the paternalistic one that forcing people to come up with the costs for the underlying documents etc. to get a state-issued voter id card will actually help these folks in other areas, such as opening a bank account.

    Not the strongest argument in the world for a mandatory plan that still puts burdens on some voters, but I get it.

    But now Patrick Marley reports:

    Gov. Scott Walker’s administration wants to stamp “voting purposes only” on the free IDs the state makes available, making it harder for people to use them to open bank accounts or prove their identity when they pick up their children from day care.

    But wait: it gets worse. The whole point of requiring these strict voter id cards is to stop (virtually non-existent) impersonation voter fraud. Marley again:

    The Division of Motor Vehicles also is proposing having the state produce cheaper, lower-quality IDs that have fewer fraud protections.

    And for the icing on the cake:

    Julie Lund, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Health Services, said she did not know whether the state would prevent people from using the voter IDs to access food stamps or health care programs for low-income people.

    Disgusting.

    Mike Pence Wants to Be Just Like Dick Cheney

    To most political observers, VP Dick Cheney was pretty much in charge during the Bush administration – at least until 2006 when Poppy Bush’s crew staged a bit of a takeover. That’s one of the reasons why this statement from Mike Pence over the weekend was so significant.

    GOP vice presidential candidate Mike Pence said his role model for the number two spot is the last Republican to hold the job — Dick Cheney.

    “I frankly hold Dick Cheney in really high regard in his role as vice president and as an American,” Pence said on ABC’s “This Week.”

    Pence said that, like Cheney, he hoped to be “a very active vice president.”

    As Steve Benen notes, it is helpful to keep in mind that “Cheney left office with a 13% approval rating – roughly half the support Richard Nixon enjoyed at the height of Watergate.” So it’s definitely not Cheney’s appeal that Pence wants to replicate.

    To understand what is going on here it is helpful to go back to how Paul Manafort described what Trump sees as the role of president.

    The vice presidential pick will also be part of the process of proving he’s ready for the White House, Manafort said. “He needs an experienced person to do the part of the job he doesn’t want to do. He seems himself more as the chairman of the board, than even the CEO, let alone the COO.”

    Josh Voorhees breaks that one down.

    For those of you don’t speak MBA, the chief executive is a company’s top decision-maker while the chief operating officer or president typically handles the day-to-day operation. (POTUS is probably best thought of as a combination of the two, though his or her chief of staff also has some COO-like duties.) A company’s chairman of the board takes a significantly broader view of long-term strategy and stays out of the daily grind all together.
