Officer #RayTensing on Trial for the Murder of #SamDuBose Day 4

November 2, 2016: Ray Tensing, Sam DuBose, University of Cincinnati, murder trial, Hamilton County Courthouse, Judge Megan Shanahan, Police, Cara OwsleyAttorneys for both sides in Ray Tensing’s murder trial agree the former University of Cincinnati’s body camera footage will play a huge role in the case.

The footage shows Tensing shooting Sam DuBose during an off-campus traffic stop in July of last year.

On Wednesday, jurors saw the video for the first time in Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Megan Shanahan’s courtroom.

WLWT investigator Todd Dykes was inside the courtroom, observing the jury and others as the video played in real-time.

As the video rolled, Dykes heard and saw members of Sam DuBose’s family cry quietly.

Afterward, DuBose’s sister, Terina Allen, said she’s not sure she can watch her brother being shot to death again.

“I don’t think I can,” Allen said. “I can’t do the video. Sam’s hands are up. He’s trying to escape. There’s nowhere to go. I just can’t do the video.”

But if Allen returns to court on Thursday she’ll have to watch the video one more time.

Prosecutors plan to call a videotape expert who will break down the video frame-by-frame.

“The expert is going to be able to demonstrate by landmark where the car is when this (shooting) happens and where it started,” Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said. “That’s the critical part.”

Tensing’s defense attorney, Stew Mathews, says the tape shows Tensing being dragged by the car DuBose was driving.

Mathews says Tensing fired his service weapon because he feared for his life.

With so much on the line, Tensing’s family watched intently as the video played.

So did members of the jury.

Dykes saw one juror, a woman, put a hand to the side of her face when Tensing’s gun sounded.

It was a powerful moment which will continue to play a key role until the trial comes to a close.

  1. That’s all the defense has? Dispute the expert testimony. Dispute the video. The car was not moving. No tires squealing.

The lengths this country will go to, in helping to justify WHITE MALE CRIMALS KILLING BLACK FOLKS!

Exactly what I’m thinking while looking through these frames.

    • Ametia says:

so insulting and traumatizing to witness these theatrics.

It’s like witnessing the victims being murdered all over again and then giving the murderers a pat on the back for the killings, once they render the no-guilty verdict.

  3. Wow! All that dragging and only minor bruising?
