      This:
“The Post reports that the McGraw shook hands with Jones and the pair hugged as the courtroom erupted in applause.

Because of course black people are always expected to accept the apologies of those who antagonize, attack, and oppress them. The onus is always on black people to be the bigger person. Had the situation been reversed, what would the sentencing have looked like? Would McGraw have accepted Jones’ apology?”

“…WASHINGTON — Ozan M. Ozkural, a London-based investment manager, found a creative way to gain one-on-one access to the new first family: He bid nearly $60,000 to have a cup of coffee with Ivanka Trump for a charity event she was hosting.
Mr. Ozkural wanted to meet with Ms. Trump — who is considering playing an informal role in her father’s administration — to gain insight into topics like President-elect Donald J. Trump’s possible future dealings with Turkey and other nations where Mr. Ozkural invests, he said.
“The nature of my business, we talk to a lot of different governments, a lot of politicians and lawmakers across the world,” Mr. Ozkural said in an interview on Thursday, adding that he recently had a conversation with the president of Argentina. “You end up getting a better sense of what the modus operandi will be.”
Mr. Ozkural is one of several high-profile bidders in a feverish competition to win time with one of Mr. Trump’s children.

The charitable fund-raising by Mr. Trump’s children is problematic, ethics lawyers said, because of the unusual role they are playing in the transition process, with Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, attending meetings the president-elect had with executives from major technology companies and with the prime minister of Japan, and Mr. Trump’s oldest son, Donald Jr., helping to select the nominee for interior secretary.

The Obama administration prohibited any member of the first family from directly soliciting charitable donations, said Norm Eisen, who served as an ethics lawyer early in President Obama’s tenure. Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle, have attended occasional charitable fund-raising events, including the Congressional Black Caucus annual dinners. The Obamas also allowed their daughters’ high school to auction off magazines they had signed, Mr. Eisen said, but they did not auction off access to themselves.

“You never, ever want to have government officials using their public office for the private gain, even for a worthy charity,” Mr. Eisen said. “That was how we did it.”

With more disclaimers and praise for the Republican players…than outrage no less..

    • eliihass says:

When Ms Lindsey and McCain are more genuinely outraged and raucously articulating so much better about Russia and this hacking thing than Dianne Feinstein and many Democrats…you know our party is in trouble..

Someday I’ll share about Dianne Feinstein and her very corrupt husband who has done more damage than can be imagined, as a longtime regent of the University of California..

These are the Democrats that give us a bad name…and lose us millennials …

  9. eliihass says:

Watching Dianne Feinstein just now on Hardball …and you can understand why and how Democrats keep losing and never make any headway…even when they have the facts on their side..

    Regarding Putin hacking our elections;

She first offers as many disclaimers as she could whip up…disclaimers that entirely weaken the argument …and question the circumstances and even the idea that these hacking incidents occurred or was carried out by Putin/Russia..

Then she proceeds to even weaken Democrats’ position on this glaringly obvious issue, by using the most ambiguous and mealy-mouthed and indiscernible language that would easily fly over the head of most Americans…including the savviest and most politically informed amongst us…language that in the end suggests that we aren’t in fact certain that Putin …and Russia for that matter, did in fact do the hacking…or even how serious or impactful it was…

Then she effusively defends Mitch McConnell…praising him and suggesting he was honorable and patriotic and very much interested in getting to the bottom of this …contrary to what we already know that he’s done thus far about this hacking thing…she also praises McConnell’s wife too, saying that she will be a fantastic Transportation Secretary…she even defends Trump’s assertions..

Our Democratic Senator then concludes by putting the burden on President Obama…saying that she’s looking forward to the White House releasing the report of the investigation…

This is your ‘savvy’ long-term Democratic senior Senator..

Republicans would not only have raised serious alarm bells…used powerfully strong and easy to grasp narratives that will filter through immediately to the masses…and catch fire on social media and in churches, gun ranges and pta meetings across the country…and even the world…

Republicans would have straight up stopped halted the transition…and made sure that Americans understood just how serious this hacking thing was …by selling it as loudly and as often as possible, in the sharpest terms, without any disclaimers, caution, chasers..and with every exaggeration they can conjure up to make it as dire as possible…

Meanwhile, Democrats keep demurring…and worse, deliberately(?) contradicting and stepping on their own best chances, and worse, the glaring facts presented by the Intelligence community…facts that would otherwise entirely sell their arguments to the American people and the world..

P.S: Did coon Michael Steele not just publicly disavow Trump with much pageantry just a few days before the elections…tsk-tsking and acting all faux-disgusted at the buffoon…

But there he is right back out there cooning and jigging and lying with impunity…on behalf of the megalomaniac buffoon..

What a shameless hustle will do to a hollow, self-loathing opportunist…

  10. eliihass says:

“…Michelle Obama was dismayed by the rise of Donald Trump. She perceived danger in the candidacy of an unstudied Republican who lied with abandon and routinely mocked and disparaged rivals, critics and entire swathes of the American populace, all the while vowing to wreck much of what the Obama administration spent eight years building.

She said repeatedly during the campaign that Trump was dangerous, undeserving and lacking “any idea what this job takes.” In Philadelphia, she pointedly recalled Trump’s leadership of the birther movement, referring to the “hurtful, deceitful questions deliberately designed to undermine” her husband’s presidency.

The attacks on Trump were the strongest, sharpest words she uttered in public during the White House years. Whatever her anger or dismay, she never said she was surprised, for these were the regressive forces that she had seen in action her entire life.

On a weekday morning, with not many people watching, Obama delivered her take on the political moment. To a rapt church audience — men and women, white and black — she said in a tone more suited to a seminar than a rally, “My fear is that we don’t know what truth looks like anymore.” She spoke of her hard-won understanding of the world, drawing on her Chicago life, where persistence and good intentions came with no guarantees.

Politicians had become expert at turning doubt into fear, she said, as life got “harder, progressively harder, for regular people.”

“We’re still a nation that’s a little too mean,” Obama said. “I wish mean worked, because we’re good at it. Our tone is bad and we’ve grown to believe that, somehow, mean talk is tough talk . . . and we reward it. Not just in politics, but we reward it in every sliver of our culture. We look on people who are tough and say, ‘That’s what we need.’ ”

Michelle Obama spoke those words in South Carolina in January 2008. As Trump makes his way to Washington with his gilded pitchfork, her assessment rings true for more than 62 million Americans who supported him and millions more who didn’t care enough to vote. She is leaving the White House with work unfinished and fresh troubles brewing. She was right that day at Mary’s Center, in her first weeks on the job, when she offered a verdict that applied as much to the nation as to herself. There are no miracles, no magic dust.

What Michelle Obama offered was something else. To audiences great and small, she presented conviction, savvy, a dose of inspiration and a certain faith that the battles were worth waging and the effort would pay off in the end…”

  11. eliihass says:

“…Three weeks after Inauguration Day in 2009 and still a long way from crafting an agenda, Michelle Obama climbed into her motorcade and paid a visit to Mary’s Center, a Latino community services agency a few miles north of the White House. She read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” to the young children and met with teenagers who asked why she had come.

The first reason, she said, was that Washington was now the Obamas’ home and they had always been taught to listen and not just pass on by. The second reason identified the audience and framed the approach that would define this most uncommon first lady’s agenda for the next eight years.

With the 13 teenagers seated in a semicircle, Obama shared the setbacks and self-doubt she faced as the daughter of black working-class parents in Chicago. When people told her she couldn’t achieve something, she set out to prove them wrong. One step at a time, she climbed, and now she felt an obligation to share.

“When you get, you give back,” she said.

Obama would give much bigger speeches on much bigger stages as she became one of the most famous people in the world. For many Democrats, she was the moral voice of the 2016 presidential campaign…

The heart of Obama’s efforts, however, was a message about the persistent inequities of race, class and gender in America. In scores of speeches and projects, she turned again and again to the stacked deck. These were the themes and conundrums that animated her work before she reached the White House and now seem certain to shape her choices after she departs.

For all the grief she took from critics who conjured radicalism, grievance or, bizarrely, racism from her finely tuned remarks, Obama’s antidotes were fundamentally timeless and conservative.

Her focus was not new. At Harvard Law School, where the tenured faculty was 96 percent white and 92 percent male, she spoke up for greater diversity. Charles Ogletree, a mentor and professor, pinpointed her passions early.

“Everything she wrote, the things that she was involved in, the things that she thought about,” he recalled of her law school years in the mid-1980s, “were in effect reflections on race and gender. And how she had to keep the doors open for women and men going forward.”

One of her signatures was the push for a seat at the table — A few years ago, she told a gathering of White House interns that if they were not prepared to risk their power when they claimed that seat, they needed to make room for someone who would.

“She never looked at things esoterically or theoretically. It was practical and real,” said Democratic strategist Stephanie Cutter, who advised her at key moments. “Her focus was never ‘How do I move Washington?’ It was much bigger than that. It was ‘How do you mobilize a country? How are real people outside of Washington going to see things?’ ”

On May 9, 2015, Obama took the stage at Tuskegee University in Alabama and delivered the most thorough and personal speech about race and racism of her tenure. As a speechmaker, said author Garry Wills, who won a Pulitzer Prize for his study of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, “I don’t know that she has any competitors in women’s history.”

Many times before her Tuskegee appearance, she had spoken about the country’s history of violence and discrimination against African Americans. She did it in Orangeburg, S.C., in 2007 to woo black support for her husband’s candidacy. She did it in Nashville during the 2012 reelection campaign, and in Topeka, Kan., in 2014 to mark the 60th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education. And she did it at other historically black universities, including Bowie State, Jackson State and North Carolina A&T.

Together, the talks reflected a lifetime of thinking about the shifting landscape of racism, the advances and the setbacks. At Tuskegee, she spoke of slights and hurdles while suggesting strategies — tested by her own experience, as always — to block out the noise and navigate a path forward.

“Too many folks feel frustrated and invisible,” Obama said. She cited worries about being pulled over “for absolutely no reason,” or being overlooked for a job “because of the way your name sounds,” or sending children to schools “that may no longer be separate, but are far from equal.” Above all, she said, there is the “realization that no matter how far you rise in life, how hard you work to be a good person, a good parent, a good citizen, for some folks, it will never be enough.”

The Obamas were not immune, despite their efforts, their achievements, their conduct. For years, Donald Trump sowed doubts about Barack Obama’s birth and citizenship, while talk show host Rush Limbaugh told his millions of followers that Michelle suffered from “uppity-ism” and called her “Michelle My Butt.” Foes likened her to a character from Planet of the Apes, a Star Wars Wookiee and a gorilla, a racist slur with a particularly long and ugly history. They challenged her patriotism and even questioned her gender…”

I have watched him discuss Mrs Obama on several occasions…who she is at her core…what matters most to her…what she’s had to stoically put up with…her unassuming brilliance and focus on leveling the playing field for others …her lack of pretense and guile…her depth of being and her unique integrity ..sincerity…her consistency…her rare authenticity…the unconventional but brilliant ways she’s navigated her projects and goals that focus entirely on those who would otherwise not be seen, heard or have a champion focusing on them …and figuring out unconventional and tangible and lasting ways to move the needle …the many ways she’s quietly changed things…by embedding them in our consciousness and culture, instead of battling opposing forces trying to get them approved as law…and I’m blown away at how he easily does the job of defining this historic and phenomenal First Lady, in ways nobody else ever bothered or bothers to…and in ways that puts even the White House to shame..

“…U.S. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler plans to step down on Jan. 20, he said on Thursday, a move expected to hand Republicans a 2-1 majority on the panel when Donald Trump takes office as president.

Wheeler could have kept the commission at 2-2 until Trump names a new member who needs to be confirmed by the Senate. Last week, two Republican FCC commissioners said the Trump administration should quickly reverse many significant policies set by the telecommunications and cable regulatory body under Democratic President Barack Obama.

Unless the U.S. Senate reconfirms Democratic Commissioner Jessica Rosenworcel, she will have to leave at end of the month. Senate Democrats on Thursday held out the possibility that Republicans could put her back on the FCC next year.

With the departures of Wheeler and Rosenworcel, the only remaining Democrat on the panel would be Mignon Clyburn, whose term does not expire until June 2017.

Trump will get to select the next chairman.

Wheeler, a former cable TV and mobile phone industry lobbyist, repeatedly clashed with companies during his tenure at the FCC, especially over the 2015 order to reclassify broadband internet service providers under a section of communications law that treats them more like public utilities and subjects them to stricter regulation as part of the commission’s “net neutrality” rules.

The rules bar broadband providers from giving or selling access to speedy internet, essentially a “fast lane” on the information superhighway, to certain services over others.

Commissioner Ajit Pai, a Republican, said last week he believed the net neutrality rules’ “days are numbered.” He also said he hoped the commission would eliminate many regulations and propose fewer actions.

Wheeler also scrutinized a series of proposed mergers, demanding significant conditions to some and rejecting others. In 2015, Wheeler blocked Comcast Corp’s proposed $45 billion acquisition of Time Warner Cable and said the FCC had serious concerns about allowing a tie-up of Sprint Corp and T-Mobile US. Republican Commissioner Mike O’Rielly said last week that the FCC under Trump needed to “undo the more harmful policies adopted by the current commission.” O’Rielly criticized the FCC’s decision in October to impose stricter privacy rules on internet service providers than on websites like Facebook Inc or Twitter Inc. Last month Wheeler dropped plans to push through a proposed reform of the $45 billion business data services market. He also dropped a plan to allow pay TV subscribers to ditch their set-top boxes….”

  14. Liza says:

    Can Trump Repeal Obamacare

There are a few scenarios to discuss with this issue.

First Scenario: Any repeal and replacement of Obamacare could not happen until summer 2017, if not later.

Trump ran on a platform that he would repeal and replace Obamacare as soon as he got into office, but that is not possible to do on Day 1. Trump will be sworn into office on January 20, 2017. The 2017 open enrollment period will end 11 days later on January 31st. Presuming Trump sits down at the oval office and begins on his new replacement plan, it would probably be at least 90 days, if not longer, before that law was written and approved and then he would need to go to Congress and try to get enough votes, which includes votes from Democrats, in order to repeal Obamacare entirely. The Republican party gained a lot during the 2016 election, but the one thing they did not gain was a Supermajority, meaning that the Democratic vote still counts and could block any repeal of Obamacare. The process of putting a vote to Congress is not a quick one particularly when dealing with schedules and agendas (it took Obamacare over six months get signed into law from the day it was first sent to Congress) so Americans who are thinking about waiting for Trumpcare to take affect, may have to wait longer than expected. If they decided not get insurance during the 2017 open enrollment period because they were waiting for Trumpcare to become law, they are risking a lot being uninsured for so long.

Second Scenario: Trump does not have a Supermajority to repeal Obamacare completely

Despite running on a platform that priority number 1, during his first 100 days in office would be to repeal and replace Obamacare, Trump simply does not have the votes to get this done. If Republicans had won more seats during the 2016 Election to gain 60% of the seats in the Senate, they would have had what is called a Supermajority, which means they would have enough votes to pass whatever they wanted, which includes an Obamacare repeal. Unfortunately for Trump, Democrats who are still very protective of Obamacare and the perks and protections its offers Americans, such as a ban on pre-existing conditions, financial subsidies for lower income families, and a ban on annual and lifetime payout limits by insurance carriers, can block any outright repeal vote. This means that Trump may have to hope for a miracle or he’ll need to find another way.

Third Scenario: Trump could use his power as President to make changes to the current law

Trump could propose changes to the law using executive orders or get health laws sitting in Congress right now passed that could modify the law. This is his best shot at changing the law for the next open enrollment period.

One thing is for sure though – if families want to be protected from unexpected medical bills, they must enroll in a health insurance plan during the 2017 open enrollment period, which started on November 1st and ends on January 31, 2017. If you want your plan to go into effect on January 1st, you must enroll by December 15th.

Ryan and Trump’s agenda will be spearheaded by speaker’s new top aide

Burks’s rise to the pinnacle of staff power comes with an added historical impact: He is the first African American to serve as the top aide to a speaker of the House. The chief of staff position has existed 30 years, and no speaker, Democrat or Republican, has ever had a black chief of staff. Before that, the top House aide was called administrative assistant, and there is no known instance of a speaker hiring a black administrative assistant. Congressional directories of past decades do not include pictures or cite the personal backgrounds of aides.

“Race has never been an issue in any of the jobs that I’ve ever held,” Burks said Wednesday. “I’ve succeeded or failed, and thankfully mostly succeeded, and race has just never been anything that’s been discussed or been at issue in those jobs.”

    SG2,

Please tweet to Keith Ellison that the comment was read that he said we should accept Trump.
    1. When did Trump ever accept Obama as President? Surely not during his YEARS as Birther-in-Chief.
    2. He was installed as a puppet of Putin.
    3. 3 MILLION more Americans voted for Hillary.
    4. I don’t want nor need a DNC Chair who is spineless like this.
