Merry Christmas Eve, everyone.
If you’re traveling to be with family and friends, please be safe.
“Silent Night” (German: “Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht”) is a popular Christmas carol. The original lyrics of the song “Stille Nacht” were written in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria, by the priest Father Joseph Mohr and the melody was composed by the Austrian headmaster Franz Xaver Gruber. In 1859, John Freeman Young (second Bishop, Episcopal Diocese of Florida) published the English translation that is most frequently sung today.[1] The version of the melody that is generally sung today differs slightly (particularly in the final strain) from Gruber’s original, which was a sprightly, dance-like tune in 6/8 time, as opposed to the slow, meditative lullaby version generally sung today. Today, the lyrics and melody are in the public domain.

Keep ‘your fat mouth shut’: Trump-backing school principal under fire for attacking Texas cuffed-mom

A Dallas charter school principal, who proudly calls herself
on of Donald Trump’s “deplorables,” is under fire for attacking a Fort Worth mom who was cuffed by local cop after reporting a white man had assaulted her son.
In a video that went viral this week,
Jacqueline Craig and her daughter were seen being apprehended and hauled off to jail by a white Fort Worth cop after the officer spoke with the man accused of attacking her son. While the police officer’s actions have been widely criticized,
Lana Sprayberry, principal of Inspired Vision Academy Elementary School in Dallas had a different take that has landed her in hot water.
According to The Root, Sprayberry took to her Facebook page to lambaste Craig, telling her she should have kept her “fat mouth shut.”
“Stop trying to act innocent,” Sprayberry wrote. “If you had
kept your fat mouth shut the cop would not have had a reason to cuff! I wouldn’t blame every cop to walk off their job in protest!!! Lord help us!!!”
Sprayberry has since deleted the post but not before it was
screen-captured by attorney Lee Merritt, who is representing the Craig family, and was forwarded to A+Charter Schools, Inc. which oversees Inspired Vision Academy.

New Orleans’ Black 7th Ward Santa Has Been Making Kids Smile For Almost 45 Years
Fred Parker, the man who puts on the red suit every year, has made such a big impact on the community that people took to Twitter to share their stories and photos of kids with the Black Santa.
While some are still trying to come to terms with the fact that Santa can be any color, a community in New Orleans has had a Black Santa for decades.
The 7th Ward Black Santa has been around for almost 45 years and Fred Parker, the man who wears Santa’s suit, has had a major impact on the community. Generations of community members know Parker; some even know him from his days as a school bus drive. Back then, Parker would treat children to McDonald’s on the day before Christmas break. Now, the 74-year-old dresses up every year to put a smile on children’s faces for the holidays

Can’t slow down that school-to-prison pipeline, can we?
A New Missouri Law Could Give Kids Serious Criminal Records For School Fights, Schools Say
And have a devastating impact on the school-to-prison pipeline.

A new Missouri
statute is drawing the ire of civil rights advocates over concerns that
it unnecessarily criminalizes children. However, a state lawmaker says that the statute is being mischaracterized and does not spur significant change.
A letter to parents and guardians that Hazelwood School District
in St. Louis County sent recently said that a law taking effect Jan. 1
could result in school fights being treated as class E felonies. Class E felonies could result in up to four years in prison. The letter said these types of acts were previously treated as misdemeanors.

Black Folks, Stop Forgiving the Racists Who Harm Us
The more we forgive those who refuse to see us as people deserving respect, the more we assist in normalizing dehumanizing behavior
by Lincoln Anthony Blades, December 19, 2016
At the :45 second mark in the clip above, we see John Franklin McGraw, a White man proudly identifying as a Trump supporter, traversing an entire row just to sucker-elbow the eye of Rakeem Jones, a young Black man who was identified at the rally as a protester. Jones had attended the rally with three friends: a White woman, a Muslim and a gay man, as a social experiment to see what would occur. His curiosity was repaid with a concussive blow.
At the one-minute mark in the above clip, as this Fayetteville, N.C., Trump rally subsided, McGraw said, “Next time we see him, we might have to kill him” in regards to murdering an unarmed Black man who made the unfortunate decision of underestimating bloodthirsty White angst.
McGraw was later charged with assault and battery, disorderly conduct and communicating threats, and he pleaded “no contest” to the assault and disorderly conduct charges. On Wednesday, he was given a suspended 30-day jail sentence and one year of unsupervised probation. So, basically, nothing.
At the hearing, he took a moment to address Jones and apologize:
“You know what you did, and I know what I did. I’m not going to say you were wrong or I’m wrong. I hate it worse than anything in the world. If I met you in the street and the same thing occurred, I would have said, ‘Go on home. One of us will get hurt.’ That’s what I would have said. But we are caught up in a political mess today, and you and me, we got to heal our country.”
Jones reached out and put his hand on McGraw’s shoulder, and McGraw subsequently extended his hand, which Jones shook before embracing McGraw in a hug. The courtroom burst into post-racial applause, and media outlets like CNN spoke of the embrace as an apology. From the standpoint of racial reconciliation at a time when the country is almost irreparably divided by our differences, I knew I was supposed to digest it as a form of progress, but only one clear thought came to my mind:
F–k that.
I am completely over the idea that Black folks strength is predicated in how much oppressive abuse we can absorb. I’m done with believing that people who intentionally harm us due to our melanin are deserving of forgiveness without conducting their own introspective moral review. I wholeheartedly refuse to provide exculpation without recompense.
Let’s be clear: not only was no apology delivered by McGraw who stated, “I’m not going to say you were wrong or I’m wrong,” but he actually decided to fully commit to sidestepping any form of qualitative atonement. In his mind and his words, the offense of flying his former Golden Glove fists into the face of an unsuspecting Black man was of equal sin to that Black man simply existing in a shared space with him. That sort of problematic thinking should not be rewarded by a round of applause in a court of law, and it definitely should not be repaid in absolution.
Hubby & I have been in PJs all day LOL
