What was revealed in that briefing? Some Dems are shook, outraged, confidence gone.

In an exclusive interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) said he does not believe Donald Trump is a “legitimate president,” citing Russian interference in last year’s election.

Asked whether he would try to forge a relationship with the president-elect, Lewis said that he believes in forgiveness, but added, “it’s going to be very difficult. I don’t see this president-elect as a legitimate president.”

When pressed to explain why, he cited allegations of Russian hacks during the campaign that led to the release of internal documents from the Democratic National Committee, and Hillary Clinton’s campaign co-chairman, John Podesta.

“I think the Russians participated in helping this man get elected. And they helped destroy the candidacy of Hillary Clinton,” Lewis told NBC News’ Chuck Todd.

Trump appeared to acknowledge this week that Russia did engage in hacking during the campaign, but he has vigorously argued that any foreign interference had no impact on the election’s outcome.

The long-serving Georgia Congressman and civil rights leader also said that he would not attend President-elect Trump’s swearing-in. “I don’t plan to attend the inauguration. It will be the first one that I miss since I’ve been in Congress. You cannot be at home with something that you feel that is wrong, is not right.”

      “…Jennifer Holliday has reversed a decision to perform at an inaugural concert on Thursday for President-elect Donald Trump, after a backlash when she was among the entertainers on the bill.

      In an open letter, Holliday apologized to the LGBT community for originally agreeing to perform. She received a backlash after it was announced that she would attend, and defended her decision in series of interviews throughout the day.

      “I was honestly just thinking that I wanted my voice to be a healing and unifying force for hope through music to help our deeply polarized country,” she said in the letter, first obtained by The Wrap.

      “Regretfully, I did not take into consideration that my performing for the concert would actually instead be taken as a political act against my own personal beliefs and be mistaken for support of Donald Trump and Mike Pence.”

      “I sincerely apologize for my lapse of judgement, for being uneducated on the issues that affect every American at this crucial time in history and for causing such dismay and heartbreak to my fans,” she wrote.

      Other performers scheduled to perform include Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down and Lee Greenwood.

      TO MY BELOVED LGBT COMMUNITY:

      Please allow me this opportunity to speak to you directly and to explain why I originally made my decision to perform at the inauguration which was what I had thought would be my simply keeping in my tradition of being a “bi-partisan songbird” having sung for Presidents Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush. I was asked to sing a song for what was presented to me as the “Welcome Concert For The People”–

      In my mind I was reflecting on the past times of being asked to sing for presidents and I only focused on the phrase “For The People”… I thought, For America! I was honestly just thinking that I wanted my voice to be a healing and unifying force for hope through music to help our deeply polarized country… Regretfully, I did not take into consideration that my performing for the concert would actually instead be taken as a political act against my own personal beliefs and be mistaken for support of Donald Trump and Mike Pence.

      In light of the information pointed out to me via the Daily Beast article on yesterday, My only choice must now be to stand with the LGBT Community and to state unequivocally that I WILL NOT PERFORM FOR THE WELCOME CONCERT OR FOR ANY OF THE INAUGURATION FESTIVITIES!

      I Sincerly apologize for my lapse of judgement, for being uneducated on the issues that affect every american at this crucial time in history and for causing such dismay and heartbreak to my fans. Please know that I HEAR YOU and I feel your pain. The LGBT Community was mostly responsible for birthing my career and I am deeply indebted to you… You have loved me faithfully and unconditionally and for so many years you provided me with work even though my star had long since faded.

      Thank you for communicating with me, I had no idea that I still meant so much to all of you. Thank you for your posted comments both the good supportive ones as well as the ugly hurtful ones.

    And yet John Lewis somehow managed to miss the memo Steve Harvey got about schmoozing the birther-in-chief who surrounded by the vilest white supremacists, is already brazenly dismantling every progress and civil rights advancement ever made…while demanding that celebrities come legitimize him…even as he has made it clear that they are only for his entertainment and to elevate him as something special…and in no way impact the destructive white supremacist and greed agenda he and his party and his cronies …and the added Putin/Russia interests, he’s already pursuing and intends to continue to pursue…

    This man long showed us who he is, and even as he did, and even as he pushed the birther lies, so many black celebrities continued to schmooze him…

      Now, he must hold his ground…and not allow anyone persuade him to take back his true and vitally important and much-needed words…much needed in the face of so much cowardice by others …and so much shirking of responsibility to protect the vulnerable and our union from the madness…to do what’s right and what’s best and what matters most…that the birther-in-chief white supremacist…aided, installed and controlled by Putin, must not be normalized, legitimized or elevated…especially not by black folks…or any righteous, well-meaning people of goodwill for that matter…
