WASHINGTON — President Trump on Friday closed the nation’s borders to refugees from around the world, ordering that families fleeing Syrian carnage be indefinitely blocked from entering the United States, and temporarily suspending immigration from several predominantly Muslim countries.

Declaring the measure part of an extreme vetting plan to “keep radical Islamic terrorists” out of the country, Mr. Trump also ordered that Christians around the globe who are seeking entry into the United States should be granted priority over Muslims, for the first time establishing a religious test for refugees.

“We don’t want them here,” Mr. Trump said of Islamic terrorists during a signing ceremony at the Pentagon. “We want to ensure that we are not admitting into our country the very threats our soldiers are fighting overseas. We only want to admit those into our country who will support our country, and love deeply our people.”

Earlier in the day, Mr. Trump explained to an interviewer for the Christian Broadcasting Network that Christians in Syria were “horribly treated” and alleged that under previous administrations, “if you were a Muslim you could come in, but if you were a Christian, it was almost impossible.”

“I thought it was very, very unfair. So we are going to help them,” the president said.

The executive order suspends the entry of refugees into the United States for 120 days and directs officials to determine additional screening ”to ensure that those approved for refugee admission do not pose a threat to the security and welfare of the United States.”

The order also stops the admission of refugees from Syria indefinitely, and bars entry into the United States for 90 days from seven predominantly Muslim countries linked to concerns about terrorism. Those countries are: Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia and Yemen.

    Washington (CNN)The White House statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day didn’t mention Jews or anti-Semitism because “despite what the media reports, we are an incredibly inclusive group and we took into account all of those who suffered,” administration spokeswoman Hope Hicks told CNN on Saturday.
    Hicks provided a link to a Huffington Post UK story noting that while 6 million Jews were killed by the Nazis, 5 million others were also slaughtered during Adolf Hitler’s genocide, including “priests, gypsies, people with mental or physical disabilities, communists, trade unionists, Jehovah’s Witnesses, anarchists, Poles and other Slavic peoples, and resistance fighters.”

    Asked if the White House was suggesting President Donald Trump didn’t mention Jews as victims of the Holocaust because he didn’t want to offend the other people the Nazis targeted and killed, Hicks replied, “it was our honor to issue a statement in remembrance of this important day.”

    While some major universities are advising their students that they are studying Trump’s Muslim ban, the University of Michigan released a statement on Saturday that flatly refused to release the immigration status of their students. Big Blue isn’t playing along with Trump’s Muslim prejudice.

    – The university complies with federal requirements associated with managing its international programs. Otherwise, the university does not share sensitive information like immigration status.

    – Campus police do not inquire about or record immigration status when performing their duties.

    – In accordance with federal law, the enforcement of immigration law rests with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection. Campus police will not partner with federal, state, or other local law enforcement agencies to enforce federal immigration law except when required to do so by law.

    – The university maintains a strong commitment to the privacy of student records for all students, consistent with state and federal laws. We do not provide information on immigration status to anyone except when required by law.

    – The university offers in-state tuition to undocumented students who meet certain conditions.

    On Saturday, Mohamed Muezeb, a 47-year-old convenience store owner from Ridgewood, Queens, woke up to a voicemail from his 17-year-old daughter, Sawsan. She was stranded at Hamad International airport in Qatar, and she was sobbing.

    A day after Donald Trump signed an executive order implementing “extreme vetting” for people coming to the US from seven predominantly Muslim nations, including Yemen, confusion reigned at airports in the US and abroad.

    Muezeb, a Yemeni green card holder who has lived in the US for 27 years, told the Guardian that his wife Arwa, daughter and 15-year-old son Mohamed Yousef had been prevented from boarding a flight to John F Kennedy international airport.

    They had planned to reunite with their family after waiting four years for a permanent residency application that was approved just three weeks ago, Muezeb said.

    On Saturday, he waited at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to see her for the first time. He wouldn’t, thanks to an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Friday night. Abdaan’s mother, 77-year-old Siham Abaas, was detained off a flight from Dubai on Saturday afternoon. Like countless people being detained in airports across the country, she will likely be sent out of the U.S. on the next available flight.

    “An official told me he was just following the law,” Abdaan told The Daily Beast. “I understand that. I myself would enforce the law. But what did my mother do wrong?”

    “…Trump’s most recent executive order effectively bans citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S. for at least 90 days — but some Muslim countries were spared from the order’s blacklist, even though they have deep-seated ties to terrorism.

    Conspicuously, Trump doesn’t hold any business interests in any of the countries on the list, but holds major stakes in several of those excluded from it, records show.

    Friday’s executive order, signed at the Pentagon, suspends the issuing of U.S. visas or travel permits to people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

    Not a single American was killed on U.S. soil by citizens from any of those countries between 1975 and 2015, according to statistics tallied by the conservative-leaning Cato Institute.

    However, the same set of statistics show that nearly 3,000 Americans were killed by citizens from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Turkey in the same time period — with the bulk of those killed being victims of the 9/11 attacks. Yet, people from those four countries are still welcome to apply for U.S. visas and travel permits.

    In a striking parallel, Trump’s sprawling business empire — which he has refused to rescind ownership of — holds multi-million dollar licensing and development deals in all of those countries, raising potential conflict of interest concerns and alarming questions over what actually went into the decision process behind Friday’s executive order.

    Not much is known about Trump’s connection to the Saudis. Yet, the little bit of information that is available raises a number of questions.

    Trump registered eight companies tied to hotel interests in the country shortly after launching his campaign in August 2015, according to The Washington Post. The companies were registered under such names as THC Jeddah Hotel and DT Jeddah Technical Services; company names The Post reported bore striking resemblance to ones Trump has registered in other foreign countries.

    During a campaign rally in Alabama last year, Trump expressed his admiration for the Saudis.

    “They buy apartment from me,” he said. “They spend $40 million, $50 million. Am I supposed to dislike them? I like them very much.”

    Those comments could cock a few eyebrows, since most of the 9/11 attackers were from Saudi Arabia.

    Further, a declassified U.S. intelligence report known as the “28 pages” claims the Saudi government and its wealthy citizens actively funded Muslim radicalism through mosques and charities in the U.S. around the time of 9/11 attacks. The 19 hijackers were in close contact with Saudi nationals before carrying out the terror attack, which became the worst one in U.S. history.

    In total, Saudi citizens killed 2,369 Americans between 1975 and 2015, according to CATO.

    TURKEY

    Trump currently licenses his name to two luxury towers in the Turkish capital Istanbul.

    He received as much as $5 million from the deals last year, according to his latest financial disclosures. Furthermore, since the election, Trump’s development partner, Dogan Sirketler Grubu Holding, has seen its shares surge by nearly 11%.

    Meanwhile, Turkey is a hotbed for terrorist activities, with the State Department issuing a travel alert advising U.S. citizens not to travel to the country because of “increased threats from terrorist groups” just this Wednesday…”
