Senate Intel Committee Hearings on Donald Trump and Russia

(CNN) — The Senate intelligence committee has asked 20 people to be questioned in its investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, the panel’s chairman said Wednesday.

“This one is one of the biggest investigations the Hill has seen in my time here,” Chairman Richard Burr, a North Carolina Republican, said at a news conference with committee vice-chairman Mark Warner. Burr’s been in the Senate since 2005, and served in the House since 1995.

Burr and Warner say they have 20 witnesses they plan to interview and have scheduled interviews with five of them so far. The committee leaders said that they are happy that President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort have agreed to testify, but they have not yet decided when they will bring them in.

“To date, we have made 20 requests for individuals to be interviewed by the committee,” Burr said. “As we stand here today, five are already scheduled on the books, and probably within the next 10 days the remaining 15 will have a scheduled date for those individuals to be interviewed by our staff. We anticipate inviting additional individuals to come and be interviewed, and ultimately some of those interviewed individuals may turn into private or public hearings by the committee, but yet to be determined.”

Among those the committee appears to have talked to: Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who resigned after he misled administration officials regarding his communications with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

“It would be safe to say we have had conversations with a lot of people, and it would be safe to say Gen Flynn is a part of that list,” Burr said.

The Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation has garnered increased intention as the House investigation has stalled along partisan lines related to its chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, and his communication with the White House related to the incidental collection of President Donald Trump and his aides.

Democrats have called on Nunes to step down from his post, while most Republicans in the chamber say they support Nunes.

The panel will hold its first public hearing Thursday.

        Said it a while back after the buffoon gave that ‘press conference’ a few weeks ago where he was still praising Flynn and pretending to give a damn about him…in exchange for Flynn’s silence…

        Flynn would lie low as long as they tried to ‘clear’ his name…and found him some way to make a few bucks …since he was already long persona non grata in most Intelligence and government circles – for his dubious reputation – and especially after he was fired by President Obama…

        He was easy target for the Russians and other despots and their countries because he was strapped for cash and could not get any other clean paying gigs…

        Nabbing and losing his high-profile and very influential gig with the buffoon, was the last straw …sealed his fate…

        Flynn and his equally demented and obnoxious son and cohort, are desperate and teetering on the edge…

        But Flynn is not the only part of this dangerously treasonous and greed-driven alliance that will eventually fold and squeal…

        Many will be deservedly destroyed when this finally implodes – which it will eventually..

        And don’t be surprised to find that some in the media – and some high-profile folks were very much privy to many of the particulars of this treasonous alliance for a long time …and said and did nothing…

    As an adviser to Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign, and later one of Mr. Trump’s top aides in the White House, Mr. Flynn was privy to some of the most sensitive foreign-policy deliberations of the new administration and was directly involved in discussions about the possible lifting of sanctions on Russia imposed by the Obama administration.
    He has made the offer to the FBI and the House and Senate intelligence committees though his lawyer but has so far found no takers, the officials said.

      While prominent folks who were previously touted as ‘brave patriots’ are either too busy ingratiating themselves with the buffoon in exchange for access and lining their pockets…and others cowardly slinking away hiding in the shadows refusing to speak up or speak honestly…

      America will have a hard time recovering from the damage done by this mess…

      Sad that the only way to even begin to cajole republicans to respond and do the right thing on behalf of this country, is to show them how it could potentially affect their personal political position and ambition…and them personally…And even then most aren’t moved…shortsightedly preferring to take the Russian bucks coming their way and hoping Putin will help them move their agenda – tax cut for the wealthy and unraveling of regulations at the behest of the wealthy businesses that fund their campaigns…and hire them after their stint in congress..

      The fact that Kushner & Manifort offered to come forward tells me they know they were going to be called in eventually. They’ve been coached ahead of time.

      Stalling, deflecting, THE INVESTIGATION has been compromised.

      Sorry, but I’m not hopeful about any of these investigation. Congress Shiff has been parading before the cameras for a few weeks, whining about collusion.

      Whatever happened to investigations gathering SOLID facts, presenting facts drawing conclusions and taken APPROPRIATE action before.
