    It is well known that on the night of the inauguration of President Obama that members of the GOP met in private with the intention of finding a way to insure that President Obama would fail. The GOP didn’t want him to be able to accomplish anything. They saw him as a threat to their authority and they wanted to be able to undo him. From the very beginning they wanted to erase him and because of this they became completely polarized and began a complete shut down to everything relating to President Obama.

    When Trump become aware of President Obama it’s clear that he sensed through his reptilian brain that Obama was a threat to him as well. He began tweeting disparaging things about President Obama and he went on Fox News to demean him. He became a major birther as a means of erasing his very existence. It makes sense that after the Correspondents Dinner where President Obama made jokes at Trump’s expense in front of the country that Trump made the decision to run for president. It is easy to see Trump as obsessed with the need to put President Obama beneath him.

    Now that the GOP holds the reins of power they are working to do the polar opposite of whatever President Obama did in healthcare, foreign relations, energy, voters rights and the rights of diverse people and so on and so on. Whatever you can think of that President Obama advocated for they have want to do the polar opposite.

      No matter what the GOP tries to undo that President Obama accomplished, President Obama’s legacy will always be that of compassion and caring for our country.

      Everything said here is true. But the GOP also sees the opportunity to decimate the social safety net which has been on their agenda for decades. That is why their repeal of the ACA is also an attack on Medicaid. Their malevolence really has no limits.

    I was traveling on this highway Sunday morning and came upon this accident. It was horrible. 4 people died. All the occupants in the car Sherry Williams was driving were killed including her 3 year old child. In the other vehicle a man was life flighted but he died upon arrival at the hospital.

    Say a prayer for all the families. They are dealing with terrible grief.

        Yes indeed! Traffic was backed up from both directions. Life flight came in and took the man driving the truck but he died upon arrival at the hospital. Too sad.

    All of this was bizarre and sharply at odds with the evidence. But perhaps more importantly, it’s also terribly inconvenient for the GOP now that those same criticisms actually apply to a Republican president.

    Although he has only been in office a few months, Donald Trump’s presidency has had a major impact on how the world sees the United States. Trump and many of his key policies are broadly unpopular around the globe, and ratings for the U.S. have declined steeply in many nations.

    According to a new Pew Research Center survey spanning 37 nations, a median of just 22% has confidence in Trump to do the right thing when it comes to international affairs. This stands in contrast to the final years of Barack Obama’s presidency, when a median of 64% expressed confidence in Trump’s predecessor to direct America’s role in the world.

    The sharp decline in how much global public trusts the U.S. president on the world stage is especially pronounced among some of America’s closest allies in Europe and Asia, as well as neighboring Mexico and Canada. Across the 37 nations polled, Trump gets higher marks than Obama in only two countries: Russia and Israel.

    Chaffetz calls for $2,500 legislator housing stipend

    Just days before he resigns from Congress, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) said Monday that House and Senate lawmakers should receive a $2,500 per month housing allowance — something he explained would help ease housing costs for members who can’t afford two mortgages or rents.

    “I really do believe Congress would be much better served if there was a housing allowance for members of Congress,” Chaffetz told The Hill in an interview in his Capitol office, where he sleeps whenever he’s in Washington. “In today’s climate, nobody’s going to suggest or vote for a pay raise. But you shouldn’t have to be among the wealthiest of Americans to serve properly in Congress.”

      The brazen self-serving, callous, tone deaf, stark lack of awareness is really something to behold in these folks..

      They’re cutting basic protections for the suffering and vulnerable, while they whine and propose additional taxpayer-funded allowances to augment their already unearned and undeserved taxpayer-funded salaries, expense accounts and perks, and the extra funds via blood monies they receive for their kowtowing from the wealthy oligarchs who fund and own them, and support their cushy lives…and future lobbyist positions…

     African Americans Have Lost Untold Acres of Land Over the Last Century
    An obscure legal loophole is often to blame.

     Driving the long, flat roads of Hilton Head Island is hypnotic. One bike-rental shop blends into another; countless villa-style office complexes advertise real-estate agents and banks. Tourists meander to their cars wearing all white, carrying brightly colored smoothies. Rows of palm trees wave slowly over the crawling traffic. A waterfront hotel looms on the horizon.

    Along Allen Road, though, an older version of Hilton Head is preserved. The short street bisects a 38-acre plot and travels past some 23 trailers that house members of the Allen family. Tall oak and pine trees block the sun from flowering shrubs in the sandy soil. The noise from passing cars is drowned out by bird chatter and an occasional shout from one family member to another.

     Matthew Allen, now in his 70s, grew up visiting this family land where his father and grandfather grew up. “When [my father] was coming up,” he recalls, “they used to…go down to the water to fish. They used to hunt. [They] used to farm the land, used to grow okra, corn, sweet potatoes. They took full advantage of the land.”

    It was Dennis Allen, Matthew’s great-grandfather, who purchased the land on Hilton Head. The son of slaves, Dennis Allen bought his first parcel of nearly 20 acres in 1897, at a time when African Americans were purchasing land across the country. Today, the Allen family owns the largest undeveloped lot on Hilton Head.

     But as the land enters its 120th year in the family, the Allens are struggling to hold on to it. Because of ambiguities surrounding the land’s title, there is no primary owner of the property; all of the heirs of the original owners—and there are more than 100 known heirs—are legally co-owners. As such, the land is classified as “heirs’ property,” a designation that makes it vulnerable to being sold without the family’s full consent. As the Allens attempt to overcome a stacked legal system—exacerbated by corrupt lawyers and predatory developers—they are at the center of a decades-long fight to retain black-owned land across the South.

      And, when I say stolen, I mean the following:
      1. White men show up in the middle of the night with a lynch mob and tell you that you can die with your land, or leave.
      2. White men, working in conjunction with the Department of Agriculture, to bankrupt the farmers (what do you think Pigford was about?)
      3. Banks redlining Black farmers so that their land can be taken when foreclosed upon.
      4. Falsified deeds – putting White people on the deeds owned by Black farmers.

    More than three-quarters of the world has little or no confidence in Donald Trump’s global leadership and his signature policies, with support for the American presidency collapsing fastest among America’s traditional allies in Europe, according to new polling by the Pew Research Center.

    In many countries, support for the US president is now below that of George Bush in 2004, following the Iraq invasion. Globally, two-thirds of respondents describe Trump as “arrogant and dangerous”.

    The research conducted across 37 countries shows a median of 22% have some or a great deal of confidence in Trump to do the right thing when it comes to international affairs. Almost three-quarters (74%) have little to no confidence in the Republican leader.

    By contrast, in the final years of Barack Obama’s presidency, a median of 64% expressed confidence in Trump’s predecessor to direct America’s role in the world.

    The polling also shows that the low level of support for the president is leading to a decline in support for wider American values. Just 49 % expressed a broadly positive view of the US, compared with 64% in surveys carried out 2015 and 2016.

    For the first time in Pew research history, most Canadians no longer regard America as a force for good in the world.

    Just 43% of Canadians have a positive view of their neighbour.

    The two major countries expressing faith in Trump’s ability to be a force for good are Israel and Russia.

    The US president has persistently low ratings across Latin America and Europe, where medians of only 14% and 18% respectively have confidence in his leadership. Only 5% in Mexico and 7% in Spain have confidence in Trump.

    The survey also finds that Trump is personally disliked globally, with most seeing him as arrogant, intolerant and dangerous, while few think of him as well-qualified or as someone who cares about ordinary people.

    In contrast, just 6% of Germans said they believed Trump was qualified to be president; 13% believe he cares about ordinary people; and 91% regard him as arrogant, 81% as intolerant, and 76% as dangerous.

    In the UK, 89% see him as arrogant, 77% as intolerant and 69% as dangerous. Globally, 65% think Trump is intolerant and 62% that he is dangerous.
