A judge said these kids get a green card. ICE says they get deported
July 06, 2017 · 2:45 PM EDT
By Bernice Yeung

For the first time, US immigration officials are seeking to deport children who have received a special status for vulnerable migrants and are in the final stages of getting their green cards.

State judges and immigration authorities can jointly grant children a special humanitarian designation known as Special Immigrant Juvenile Status if they decide undocumented children have been abandoned, abused or neglected by one of their parents in their home country. Children who qualify are given a US Social Security number, a work permit and a green card.

Now, a group of children from Central America who are close to becoming legal permanent residents face imminent deportation after US Immigration and Customs Enforcement declined to close their deportation cases in February.

Children in the same scenario have previously completed the process without facing similar threats of deportation.

“The immigration administration is saying they don’t care — that the risks that lie beyond the border are not their problem,” said Leon Rodriguez, who oversaw the granting of the humanitarian status as director of US Citizenship and Immigration Services until early 2017.

V.G. is one of the first children with the status to be placed in deportation proceedings while he waits for his green card.

He had become desperate to evade the aggressive recruitment of gangs in his rural hometown in El Salvador, and in the fall of 2015, when he was 14, he and his mother decided to seek refuge in the United States. They crossed into the US by swimming across the Rio Grande. Hours later, they were arrested by US immigration authorities and readied for deportation.

Before they could be sent back, V.G. made the case to a family court judge in Pennsylvania that he deserved a special humanitarian designation for migrant kids because he’d been abandoned by his father in El Salvador, and gangs in his home country have been known to prey on vulnerable teens.

When Congress created the status in 1990, it called on family courts to decide whether the children qualify for humanitarian protection. The migrant then submits an application, which is approved or denied by DHS.

Because the court found that he had been abandoned and it was not in his best interest to be returned home, V.G. was granted Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. He is referred to only by his initials in court documents because he is considered a vulnerable minor.

V.G. and three other children in his situation are challenging their impending deportation. In a federal court in Southern California, they are trying to force the government to reopen their deportation cases. They will make their case to a judge on July 10.

They have also filed a class-action lawsuit in Pennsylvania, where they are being detained with their mothers, that argues that in trying to deport the children, the U.S. government is violating the US Constitution and federal immigration laws. A panel of judges could make a decision as early as this summer.

Bridget Cambria, a Pennsylvania attorney who represents V.G. and the three other children who are in a similar situation, said these cases could have far-reaching impact on whether more children with the status will be deported.

These are not criminals. That’s how the immigration ‘crackdown’ was sold – they were going to go after all those CRIMINALS.

These are the most vulnerable.
And, you have ICE, acting like phucking vultures. This seems to be a pattern with them – going after the vulnerable. Women. Children. Seniors.

They’re supposed to be all big and bad…when the phuck are they going to go after the CRIMINALS…oh, that’s right, the Criminals would fight back against their fraudulent behinds.

Nonagenarian Carl Reiner (aged a whopping 95 years old!), writes open letter to octogenarian Justice Kennedy, imploring him not to retire yet…

But will Neil Gorsurch’s mentor be persuaded..? I noticed him kissing the buffoon’s butt after the pretend-SOTU address a few months ago, so I’m neither impressed by Kennedy, or holding my breath..

“…BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Dear Justice Anthony Kennedy,

I would like to start with congratulatory wishes on your forthcoming 81st birthday.

As someone who has almost a decade and a half on you, I can tell you this: It may well be that the best part of your career has just begun. As a nonagenarian who has just completed the most prolific, productive five years of my life, I feel it incumbent upon me to urge a hearty octogenarian such as yourself not to put your feet up on the ottoman just yet. You have important and fulfilling work ahead of you.

When I turned 81, I had finished “Oceans Eleven” and was gearing up for “Oceans Twelve” while also writing another book, which led me to a cross-country book tour.

I know what it means to be your age. I know the problems that come with the journey. But these are not ordinary times, and you, sir, are anything but an ordinary man.

The country needs justices like you who decide each case with fairness and humanity, and whose allegiance is to the Constitution of the United States of America, not to a party line. You have always voted your conscience, and defended the rights and liberties of all our citizens.

I’m sure you’ve considered the various options, as we all do when we reach a certain age. After all, although our lives are different, I’m sure there are similarities. I get up in the morning, and if I’m not in the obits, I eat breakfast. You get up, meet with your clerks and engage with them in spirited discussion about the constitutional ramifications of the important cases at hand. I engage in spirited discussion with my publisher about the release order of my next three books.

Imagine if you retired from the bench. What would your days be like? Here’s a scenario: You revisit your carefree years, rent a red Volkswagen and travel through Europe, stopping in Paris for coffee and a croissant on the Champs-Élysées, then on to the Amalfi coast, where you’ll sail to the waterfalls of Marmorata and the Emerald Grotto.

How would you feel, while reading your newspaper, seeing a headline that read “Roe v. Wade Overturned”? Do you see how this could ruin a good meal? A good life? A great country?

I believe I’ve made my case. It’s now 1 a.m., and I am going upstairs to my computer to tweet out my thought of the day, because I can. I have the freedom to do that because of people like you who are committed to protecting our liberties and our Constitution.

I thank you, as all our fellow citizens will.

    Respectfully,

    Carl Reiner

      P.S:

I’ve always really liked and respected Carl Reiner…He’s one of few Hollywood folks I think highly of…mostly because of his love and respect for his wife and his dedication to their marriage of almost 65 years..

Even after his wife who was older than him by 8 years, died in 2008, he’s continued to honor her and their marriage and the family they built together…

That for me is the ultimate measure of a real man…and is the most telling of his character…even in his professional capacity …

There’s no separating the personal from the professional for me…show me a man’s wife and the family they’ve built together, and I’ll tell you who he really is…

  2. Wow! And they were suing her for being at fault.

  3. The US media is STILL reporting protesters and police “clash” at the G20 while the streets are TORE UP! No mofos, they’re RIOTING!

    • eliihass says:

It’s that agreed-upon and accepted world standard of things…Interpretation and judging and telling and handling of people and events based entirely on color/color-coding …and ‘perception’ – entirely from the white man’s point of view – turned rule of law that summarily decides who and what is superior/inferior regarding just about everything – including behavior, intent, justification, validation, response, punishment, etc…with an ascending scale that starts with black folks at the very bottom, and goes up as the shade lightens…

And it’s all ensconced in the official world order of things handbook, from whence everyone – including psychologically colonized and forever enslaved black folks – takes their cues and directives/marching orders..

The media is the manipulative conduit for shaping and controlling a deliberately disinformed and malleable world – and is now mostly owned and controlled by a handful of narcissistic oligarchs who employ and own a beholden, at their beck and call stable of narcissistic, cowardly, greedy, unprincipled, hollow, fickle human types ..completely devoid of integrity …and eagerly available to the highest bidder and whoever/whatever promises paid gigs, face/voice on t.v /radio…and pays the big bucks to undeservedly afford them lifestyles their stints in pretend-journalism otherwise never would..

  4. I am fucking livid…

MSNBC reporting Trump pressed Putin on election hacking, Putin denies interference and Trump accepts.

Who does he think he is? Throw his treasonous ASS in JAIL!

    • eliihass says:

Can’t be ‘reporting’ on collusion with a hostile foreign entity while actively and breathlessly normalizing and legitimizing the very same compromised treasonous buffoon, with effusive and endlessly reverential elevating and boosting with the undeserved title and bonafides of the ultimate office in the land…

Kinda hard to take ‘reports’ of potential treason and the associated treasonous offenses seriously when those reporting on it – even in their investigative journalist capacities, are also in the same breath, reverentially addressing the traitor with the ultimate title of an office he not only poorly inhabits, is ill-equipped for, desecrates, trashes and disgraces every single moment….a title and office their reports show he assumed illegally and treasonously and by the benevolent intervention of and collusion with a well-known hostile foreign entity…an office he should not be occupying – or even be 1000 miles within…

Suddenly the very same media that for 8 years almost always frequently substituted the title ‘president’ for ‘Mr.’…and mostly always dismissively and rudely referenced and addressed the historic double Ivy League educated FLOTUS by her first name – no honorific for her…and her husband the historic POTUS, by his last name without his earned title in the highest office of the land…

That same media suddenly can’t seem now to remember how to pronounce ‘Mr.’ ..and never misses a beat in their reverential cowering and endless prefacing of the buffoon’s disreputatable last name with the ultimate title ..almost reminiscent of a sycophantic communist authoritarian set-up…

The weird, on-demand robotic, and endlessly reverential application of the title attached to the highest office in the land, to a treasonous buffoon…and the application of the companion honorific to his vapid, hollow, gold-digging 3rd wench, is hardly consistent with or helpful in the reporting of – or the taking seriously, the treasonous activities he is known to have been involved in…And it certainly is not helpful in getting the American people to think, and helping the world understand the enormity of the crimes committed, or prepare folks for the legitimate results of the official probe if in the end it does indict the treasonous buffoon and his cohorts..

  5. Notice how MSNBC is reporting protesters and police “clashing” at the G20? I haven’t seen or heard the word “riot” used yet.

When white people throw bricks, set fires to protest, @MSNBC calls it “clashing” between protesters & police.

When black people protest peacefully = riot

    We see you, MSNBC!

Democrats can do a helluva lot better than Andrew Cuomo.

    ……………………………………………………..

Andrew Cuomo Can’t Stop Punching the Left
    by Martin Longman
    July 7, 2017 12:15 PM

David Freedlander didn’t get New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to cooperate with him while he was writing his profile of him for Politico, and that is apparently the norm. Cuomo doesn’t want people discussing his presidential ambitions. Nonetheless, I imagine that Cuomo isn’t displeased with the piece since it paints him as a ruthlessly effective politician who gets shit done and takes no prisoners.

Overall, it’s a good piece because it provides a comprehensive history of Cuomo and his time in Albany, and it takes in commentary from a wide spectrum of views including admirers, progressive opponents, and even fearful members of Trump’s team. But there is one rather significant problem.

It begins by asking if Cuomo can win over liberals if he runs for president. It correctly sees this as his largest obstacle. It then goes into admirable detail about why this won’t be easy considering his record of vindictively antagonizing progressives and welshing on his promises. This is followed by a long and somewhat convincing argument that he’s checked off a whole lot of boxes on the progressive wishlist: free college, gay marriage, stricter gun control, a relaxation of Rockefeller-era drug laws, and a ban on fracking. In other words, he’s fought with liberals but he’s also delivered for them. Liberals should recognize his effectiveness.

And that’s all fair. But then the piece concludes with stuff like this:

It would be impossible to mount a presidential campaign in this day and age without a groundswell of support from the party’s liberal edge. People close to Cuomo know he needs to do some repair work in New York, end his bitter feud with [NYC Mayor Bill] de Blasio, push for a Democratic legislature.

He knows they will never love him. Cuomo still sees himself as an outer-borough guy, his advisers say, as the kind of person whose favorite weekend hobby is working on old cars. Those mandarins at the Times editorial board or perusing Mother Jones in the checkout line of the Park Slope Food Co-Op who think politics is about pretty words and debating ideas will never get it. “He thinks the far left think they are so much smarter and more righteous than everyone else, and that if you don’t constantly kiss their ass that there is something repugnant about you,” said one adviser. “He really doesn’t care. He’s got the unions on his side, and he knows that’s worth more than whatever the 800 ivory tower liberals in New York think about him.”

    ……………………………

Cuomo’s approach has worked on a lot of levels and he’s got good enough poll ratings that he could probably be reelected to another term as governor without much difficulty. But the perception that he’s from the wrong wing of the Democratic Party is widespread and is going to be tough to overcome in any effort to win the nomination for the presidency.

He’ll be able to go down the list of things he’s accomplished and make the case that he’s a solid progressive, but his hardened enemies will make things tough for him. If he really has the ambition to be president, and I do not doubt that he does, then he needs his supporters to stop trashing the progressive left.

Fox Business Network host Charles Payne suspended amid sexual harassment allegations

    Updated: Friday, July 7, 2017

A Fox Business Network host has been suspended amid sexual harassment allegations brought up against him by a former female commentator.

Charles Payne, who hosts “Making Money,” admitted he had a “romantic relationship” with a political analyst, who had worked for CNN, for about three years, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“We take issues of this nature extremely seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy for any professional misconduct,” a Fox Business Network spokesman said in a statement to the newspaper. “This matter is being thoroughly investigated and we are taking all of the appropriate steps to reach a resolution in a timely manner.”

The allegations against Payne are being investigated by Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison — the same firm that had probed the network’s parent company, 21st Century Fox, in previous sexual harassment claims against other personalities and executives.

    Hobby Lobby Meets Indiana Jones
How stolen art fuels Middle Eastern terrorism.

    by Mike Lofgren
    July 7, 2017

By now, everyone has heard of Hobby Lobby and its founder, Dave Green. Green is a fake Christian who uses his business as a vehicle to bully women and generally make a public nuisance of himself.

Aside from lending credence to the notion that employers may dictate to their female employees what sort of health care they may access (a suit by Hobby Lobby against the Affordable Care Act was decided in the company’s favor by a business-compliant Supreme Court), Green resolved to go show-biz by opening the Museum of the Bible just off the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Far from being the usual combination of Disney World and a Ripley’s Believe It Or Not museum—just think of the ludicrous Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky—Green plans to give us the genuine old-timey experience from the Holy Land. Already, Hobby Lobby has amassed some 40,000 items of antiquities, artifacts, and bric-a-brac, all of them the real McCoy. At last, the Faithful would be able to visit the nation’s capital and see something to counter the pernicious atheist propaganda on display at the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History.

There was just one problem. According to a complaint lodged by the U.S. Court of the Eastern District of New York, Hobby Lobby engaged in a years-long effort to smuggle Iraqi artifacts disguised as tile samples. Their provenance may be considered doubtful given that the company persistently caused the shipments to be misleadingly labeled for customs and sent to multiple addresses, tactics routinely used by dealers in stolen artifacts.

………………..Given the possibility that their decade-long trafficking in illicit Iraqi artifacts may have contributed to the ability of terrorists to finance their activities, shouldn’t we consider whether the Greens should be investigated under statutes prohibiting material aid to terrorism? After all, U.S. citizens have been prosecuted for donating to charitable organizations ostensibly delivering humanitarian relief in Palestine and Somalia, a more ambiguous circumstance than dealing in antiquities looted from a war zone. And that also raises the question of whether Hobby Lobby became a front for an ongoing conspiracy to traffic in illicit goods. If so, it could be subject to forfeiture under federal RICO laws. Or, at the very least, shouldn’t those of us who are put off by the antics of monstrous hypocrites like the Greens be publicly calling for such an investigation?

Were the shoe on the other foot, and, say, Richard Dawkins or Bill Nye the Science Guy engaged in criminal shenanigans with a terrorism angle, we would have no difficulty guessing the response of the great Right Wing Noise Machine.

Trumpcare Is Having a Very Bad Day
    By Jonathan Chait

Last week, just as the Senate appeared to be racing toward the stealth repeal of Obamacare, it came to a screeching halt. Mitch McConnell has tried to use the July Fourth recess to regroup and find a way to assemble the 50 votes he needs to roll back the Affordable Care Act. But today appears to be another turning point: His plan suddenly looks like it’s on the verge of death. It is not one single development that indicates the sharply worsening outlook for Trumpcare, but several.

The most damaging development is a new statement by Mike Lee, one of the arch-conservative holdouts. Lee has been angling to make McConnell include provisions in the bill to weaken Obamacare’s protections for people with preexisting conditions. Lee’s ideas are a complete nonstarter for many, perhaps most, members of the Republican Senate. Today his spokesman told Axios reporter Caitlin Owens, “The entire bill is unacceptable without the Consumer Freedom Option.”

Lee’s position makes it almost impossible for McConnell to find his 50 votes. Blue-state senators Susan Collins and Dean Heller already appear irretrievably opposed to anything resembling McConnell’s plan. If Lee demands that the bill let insurers charge higher prices for coverage of treatments needed by sicker people, then he drives away at least one more vote on the party’s opposite wing: Lisa Murkowski or Shelley Moore Capito, among others, have expressed reservations about yanking coverage away from people who have obtained it through Obamacare.

That is not the only indication of trouble for McConnell. Kansas senator Jerry Moran, the only Republican senator who has held a town hall meeting during the recess, is nobody’s idea of a swing-state vote. But Moran faced a packed audience, and advocated a bipartisan approach in health care: Health care would be “almost impossible to try to solve when you’re trying to do it with 51 votes,” he told the audience, instead proposing this chamber “figure out where there are 60 votes to pass something.”

Bipartisanship might sound like a mom-and-apple-pie concept that a nervous Republican could throw around to mollify angry constituents without committing himself to anything specific. But in this case, 60 votes has a clear meaning. McConnell’s plan has been to use a 50-vote procedure to avoid the need for Democratic support. Indeed, he has threatened his caucus with the prospect that he will resort to bipartisan negotiations if the 50-vote strategy fails.
