Border Patrol committed gross human rights abuse against a 16 yr old kid

Border patrol permit/encourage a 16yr old kid to drink highly concentrated Meth dissolved in liquid. He died. Instead of testing the substance, they allowed a 16yr old kid to take 4 sips and then smirked at each other about it. No mercy, no compassion, no humanity. Only a subhuman savage would do this to a little boy. These Border agents are STILL on the job. They have no business being Border Patrol agents and they don’t belong in society. Lock them away in a cage.

A recently released surveillance video shows two border patrol officers encouraging a Mexican teen to drink from two bottles of liquid meth at the U.S.-Mexico border crossing just hours before he died.

The shocking government surveillance video obtained by ABC News shows Cruz Velazquez, 16, being questioned by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers Valerie Baird and Adrian Perallon in 2013.

Velazquez was trying to carry two bottles across the border that later tests revealed that they contained concentrated liquid methamphetamine

Baird can be shown making a motion with her right hand apparently suggesting to the teen to drink from the bottle.

The high school student can be seen in the video taking two drinks from one bottle and then another two drinks from the second bottle, as the officers, who are smiling, appear to repeatedly encourage Velazquez with hand gestures.

Roughly 30 minutes after drinking from the bottles, Velazquez appears to be in distress in another surveillance video clip.

A specially trained dog detected the presence of drugs, so agents handcuffed the boy and detained him. He soon began complaining that he felt sick and then told agents the liquid was a ‘chemical.’

He was taken to the nearby Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, where he died hours later.

Baird and Perallon both remain on the job and no disciplinary action was taken against them.

The teen’s family filed a civil lawsuit against the officers and the agency, claiming that the two officers’ actions led to Velazquez’s death.

‘What you see, I think, is a basic lack of compassion and decency toward a 16-year-old boy,’ Gene Iredale, the San Diego-based attorney who represented the Velazquez family told ABC News.

‘Almost a delight that you would see in children who just pull the wings off flies slowly, a smile when he’s being asked to drink something and being put in this position.’

James Tomsheck, a former head of internal affairs at the CPB, told ABC News that Baird and Perallon violated agency protocols by permitting Velazquez to drink from the bottles.

  1. Alyson Gutierrez says:

Watching this video, they killed him, simple as that and they are covering it up. You can clearly see they told him to drink it. What’s worse is during Bairds interview, she is smiling and laughing. Her body language tells a story. If this is who we have working for Our, she’s is creepy!!!

  2. This racist thug here…..

Rather than rein in the agency, President Donald Trump seems poised to set them loose.

    http://abcnews.go.com/2020/deepdive/video-border-officers-actions-lead-tragedy-48912222

The leadership of the union representing the border patrol agents endorsed him during the campaign, and he repaid them with two new executive orders calling for tougher immigration enforcement measures, including the hiring of 5,000 new border patrol agents.

“This is a law enforcement agency,” Trump said during a speech delivered to the Department of Homeland Security shortly after taking office, “but for too long, your officers and agents haven’t been allowed to properly do their jobs.”

If the message got lost, Sean Spicer, Trump’s then-press secretary, hammered it home about a month later.

“The President wanted to take the shackles off individuals in these agencies,” Spicer said.

According to Tomsheck, those words sent shockwaves throughout the agency and could ultimately lead to more aggressive practices.

“I’ve listened carefully to some agents that I still enjoy a friendship with, and have heard from them that many in the border patrol believe that their actions are going to be subjected to even less scrutiny than they were before,” Tomsheck said.

It’s possible, however, that Trump has already made his biggest impression on the U.S.-Mexico border. Words, Iredale says, like the “bad hombres” label, reinforce the notion that the lives of those who would cross the border are somehow less valuable.

“It allows stereotyping to have the imprimatur of the most powerful person in the country,” Iredale said. “It says it’s all right to feel scorn, to feel superiority, to have a slightly sarcastic sense of bigotry toward these people because, after all, they’re not like us.”

Reyna, now 16 herself, knows too well those words can have unforeseen consequences. Her brother was buried on a hill in Tijuana, where Reyna and her family visit him every month.

Earlier this year, the U.S. government paid the Velazquez family $1 million to settle their lawsuit, but there was no apology and no admission of wrongdoing, baffling those who knew Velazquez as more than a stereotype.

“How can the government allow that? It’s like, OK you can kill someone,” Reyna said. “They took him as a fool, as who cares. Well, that fool, he was the greatest person I ever knew.”

  3. Cruz Velazquez was just a little boy. What happened to fine him, put him in jail? But to give him a death sentence? A little kid? Valerie Baird & Adrian Perallon are barbaric mofos who belong in a cage. I don’t care how much money was given to his parents. It’s not enough. They can never get their child back. Justice need to be served. Put Valerie Baird & Adrian Perallon in JAIL.

After a K-9 alerted agents that Velazquez had controlled substances, agents handcuffed Velazquez and took him into custody.

Shortly after, Velazquez began sweating, and then “screaming in pain and clenching his fists,” according to the suit.

In the lawsuit, the family alleged that Velazquez began yelling “the chemicals” in Spanish and then, “Mi corazon! Mi corazon!”, or “My heart! My heart!” He began to seize uncontrollably, according to the suit.

  4. Just look at them! Barbaric savages with no humanity, no conscience…

  5. Stefanie says:

I can’t believe these two got away with this.
And what the hell is wrong with their supervisors?
In light of the 20 20 investigation I hope they are charred criminally and fired

  6. If any parent permitted a 16 year old to drink a toxic drug, they’d be in jail on murder charges. The officers had no regard for human life. They should go to jail and the keys tossed. The victim was a 16 year old kid, they were adults in position of authority. JAIL THEM‼️

  7. Lonnie Starr says:

These guys are not Law Enforcement agents, they’re monsters in uniform. Those uniforms should not give monsters cover to prey.

  8. yahtzeebutterfly says:

This is so deeply heartbreaking, heartbreaking, heartbreaking.

A child is dead because of two heartless individuals in a position of authority. I cannot understand why no charges were brought against them.

Excerpts from an article at this link: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/video-shows-border-officers-appeared-encourage-permit-teen/story?id=48903893

“What you see, I think, is a basic lack of compassion and decency toward a 16-year-old boy,” said Gene Iredale, the San Diego-based attorney who represented the Velazquez family. “Almost a delight that you would see in children who just pull the wings off flies slowly, a smile when he’s being asked to drink something and being put in this position.”

A former head of internal affairs at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, James Tomsheck, told ABC News the two officers violated agency protocols by allowing the young man to drink from the bottle, and that he was told at the time they would be punished.

Rep. Zoe Lofgren, a Democrat from California and the ranking member on the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security, condemned the officers’ conduct.

“Drug smuggling is wrong and is a crime, but this teenage boy did not deserve a death sentence,” Lofgren told ABC News. “For CBP officers to inflict a summary death sentence is not only immoral, but also illegal.”

    Also:

Rep. Adriano Espaillat, a Democrat from New York, said this incident highlights the need to pass legislation he introduced earlier this year that would require border officers to wear body cameras while on duty.

Undocumented immigrants and green card holders are terrified,” Espaillat said in a statement, “and it is critical that we hold officers accountable and ensure that the civil rights of these individuals are not violated.”

  9. rikyrah says:

    they are OUT OF CONTROL!!!

  10. Ellisheva says:

Horrible people to do this to a young person. Also reprehensible – their superiors who give this incident no attention or consequences for his death. So young to die

  11. Chicas, all this pain and heartache I feel every time I read about the gross injustice people suffer and there is nothing I can do to help. It’s too much.

    • yahtzeebutterfly says:

You are helping, SG2. You are broadcasting their stories. You and Ametia and Rikyrah have helped me become a better advocate by keeping me informed. I have also watched how you advocate and have paid attention to your articles on activists. Who knows how many readers you have reached and how many readers have grown in their abilities to advocate and to improve the communities and to push for a better world.

Perhaps a reader here who doesn’t post comments might be in a position to bring to justice individuals that you write about.

Your work is much appreciated, SG2. You do make a difference!

      • Thanks, Yacht. It pains me to see such heartless cruelty against a child from people in position of authority. They were judge, jury and executioner sitting there and smirking as he drank a toxic drug. He was just a little boy. What happened to fine him, put him in jail but a death sentence? What they did is cruel beyond comprehension.

  12. Cruz Velazquez was just a little boy scared and didn’t know what to do. They were the fucking adults in position of authority. Lock them up!
