The kids are going back to school who haven’t already gone.

    As we celebrate Labor Day on Monday, let’s remember that King was committed to building bridges between the civil rights and labor movements.

    Invited to address the AFL-CIO’s annual convention in 1961, King observed:

    “Our needs are identical with labor’s needs: decent wages, fair working conditions, livable housing, old-age security, health and welfare measures, conditions in which families can grow, have education for their children, and respect in the community. That is why Negroes support labor’s demands and fight laws which curb labor. That is why the labor-hater and labor-baiter is virtually always a twin-headed creature spewing anti-Negro epithets from one mouth and anti-labor propaganda from the other mouth.”

    He added:

    “The labor movement did not diminish the strength of the nation but enlarged it. By raising the living standards of millions, labor miraculously created a market for industry and lifted the whole nation to undreamed of levels of production. Those who today attack labor forget these simple truths, but history remembers them.”

    Several major unions reciprocated King’s support. When he was jailed in Birmingham for participating in civil disobedience, it was Walter Reuther, the charismatic leader of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, who paid his bail.

    We often forget that its official name was the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom and that its manifesto called on Congress not only to pass a civil rights bill but also “a national minimum wage act that will give all Americans a decent standard of living.” The manifesto pointed out that “anything less than $2.00 an hour fails to do this.”

      True. But she is a purchased trophy wife, she is a foreigner, and her previous work experience was soft porn model. I think she’s performing about as well as can be expected for someone with her background and character, someone who has chosen money over everything.

      People should be thankful she’s quiet.

    White House aides fret over Trump’s psyche now that bodyguard and ‘ultimate emotional binky’ Keith Schiller is gone

    Donald Trump’s longtime bodyguard Keith Schiller may not have left the White House due to scandal, but those close to the president worry about the effect his absence will have on him all the same.

    According to Axios, people close to Trump are already musing about how it’ll affect his “psyche.”

    “Schiller is the ultimate emotional binky for Trump,” New York Times‘ White House correspondent Maggie Haberman, a journalist whose access to the president is unprecedented, tweeted.

    Along with reports about the private concerns of the president’s confidantes, Axios also noted that Schiller (who’s worked for Trump since 1999) was much more than a security czar.

    “In the early, freewheeling days of this administration,” the report notes, “Trump’s old contacts had a method for getting around the Chief of Staff, Reince Priebus: If they wanted to reach Trump, they’d text Keith, and before too long they’d often receive a call from the president.”

    In late June, ABC News reported that the House Intelligence Committee was interested in interviewing Schiller in their Trump-Russia collusion investigation.

    “After attending the school for a few years, Cralle moved to Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania, where he worked as a porter at a drugstore and at a hotel. While working at the hotel, he developed the idea of the ice cream scoop. It came to him when he noticed ice cream servers having difficulty trying to get the popular confection desired by the customer into the cone they were usually holding. The ice cream tended to stick to spoons and ladles, usually requiring the server to use two hands and at least two separate implements to serve customers.

    Cralle responded to that problem by creating a mechanical device now known as the ice cream scoop. He applied for and received a patent on February 2, 1897. The thirty-year-old was granted U.S. Patent #576395.

    Cralle’s invention, originally called an Ice Cream Mold and Disher, was designed to be able to keep ice cream and other foods from sticking. It was easy to operate with one hand. Since the Mold and Disher was strong and durable, effective, and inexpensive, it could be constructed in almost any desired shape, such as cone or a mound, with no delicate parts that could break or malfunction.
