    A Russian proposal obtained by BuzzFeed News reveals Moscow’s ambitious plan to break with the past and launch a major rapprochement with the United States.

    WASHINGTON – In the third month of Donald Trump’s presidency, Vladimir Putin dispatched one of his diplomats to the State Department to deliver a bold proposition: The full normalization of relations between the United States and Russia across all major branches of government.

    The proposal, spelled out in a detailed document obtained by BuzzFeed News, called for the wholesale restoration of diplomatic, military and intelligence channels severed between the two countries after Russia’s military interventions in Ukraine and Syria.

    The broad scope of the Kremlin’s reset plan came with an ambitious launch date: immediately.

    By April, a top Russian cyber official, Andrey Krutskikh, would meet with his American counterpart for consultations on “information security,” the document proposed. By May, the two countries would hold “special consultations” on the war in Afghanistan, the Iran nuclear deal, the “situation in Ukraine,” and efforts to denuclearize the “Korean Peninsula.” And by the time Putin and Trump held their first meeting, the heads of the CIA, FBI, National Security Council and Pentagon would meet face-to-face with their Russian counterparts to discuss areas of mutual interest. A raft of other military and diplomatic channels opened during the Obama administration’s first-term “reset” would also be restored.

    Besides offering a snapshot of where the Kremlin wanted to move the bilateral relationship, the proposal reveals one of Moscow’s unspoken assumptions – that Trump wouldn’t share the lingering US anger over Moscow’s alleged interference in the 2016 election and might accept a lightning fast rapprochement.

    “It just ignores everything that caused the relationship to deteriorate and pretends that the election interference and the Ukraine crisis never happened,” said Angela Stent, a former national intelligence officer on Russia during the George W. Bush administration who also reviewed the document.

    Robert Mueller is ‘going for the kill’ on Trump-Russia probe

    Republicans with close links to the White House increasingly believe
    that special counsel Robert Mueller is “going for the kill” in his
    investigation into links between President Donald Trump and Russia.
    Members of the GOP are said to have come to that stark conclusion based on Mueller’s hiring of lawyers experienced in dealing with money laundering crimes and the Mafia, as well as the intensity of his pursuit of both witnesses and evidence.

    Trump has previously warned that investigation of his financial
    dealings is a red line that Mueller should not cross. But that is
    thought to be exactly what Mueller is doing, including looking into a
    proposal made during the 2016 campaign to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

    The new report comes just days after Trump’s former chief strategist, Steve Bannon, told CBS’s 60 Minutes that Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey, which he called the worst mistake in “modern political history,” led directly to the appointment of Mueller to oversee the investigation.

    Mueller’s probe appears to have stepped up in recent weeks. It was
    reported last month that he had impaneled a federal grand jury in
    Washington and has issued subpoenas related to a meeting Donald Trump Jr. held with a Russian-government-linked lawyer in June 2016. Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, as well as his then-campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, were also at the meeting. Last week, Trump Jr. was interviewed behind closed doors by the Senate Judiciary Committee.

    1. The NYT is garbage because they should have done their phucking job
    2. I put it this way – the curve for unqualified White men is REAL.

    Here’s what I thought would happen. When it became clear that Trump was going to be the GOP nominee I thought “boy, he has no idea what he’sin for because they are going to look into Trump Inc and he’s sleazy and dirty as hell”.

    That never happened. They never did the investigation. The best we got was the WaPo investigation into the foundation. The foundation is bullshit. No one cares about that. That’s minor sleaze.

    You know who is finally vetting Donald Trump? The NY attorney general and Mueller. It’s like the opposite of Watergate. It’s as if the
    Watergate reporters had said “well, I’m sure the authorities will look
    into this at some point”. It went all the way to law enforcement, to
    what could be criminal acts. He’s President! How in the HELL did he get a pass that long?

      I insist they recognize this double standard and explain it. Obama
      would have badgered until he held a beer summit with survivors or

      Cokie Roberts would do 500 words on how his foreigness
      (blackness) makes him not like the rest of us, because we revere 9/11.

      Every fucking day Obama was forced to prove he belonged in
      that job and every fucking day they lower the standards so Trump can believe he belongs in that job. It contradicts the whole concept of “merit”- shows it to be an elaborate lie. People need merit! They need to believe that it matters, because if it doesn’t why try at all?

    “Either You Go There or You Leave…This is For The General Public” – Homeless Bused to Separate Shelter Ahead of Irma

    As people throughout the state of Florida fled to shelters ahead of Hurricane Irma over the weekend, Volusia County was redirecting the homeless to separate shelters than those housing everyone else.

    Video from The Daytona Beach News-Journal showed a group of homeless people being turned away after being dropped off at David C. Hinson Sr. Middle School, which was turned into a shelter. In the video, the group was told by two men, dressed in what appear to be police or security uniforms, that they couldn’t stay, and were directed to a bus that would transport them to a shelter specifically intended for the homeless. When one of the men in the group pointed out that they had signed up to stay at the shelter at the middle school, he was told by one of the men that, “Right now, you do not have somewhere to currently reside, so either you go there or leave. It’s plain and simple.”

    When the homeless man attempted to clarify that the reason the group had to go on the bus transporting people was because they were homeless, the second of the two men responded stating, “No, you can walk [to the shelter] if you want to. You don’t have to go on the bus.” One of the men redirecting the group then confirmed that “This is for the general public, yes”, but claimed that “because you don’t have a place to stay, has nothing to do with how we look at you.” The other man told the group, “We have a separate shelter for homeless.” He apologized, saying that the matter was “a misunderstanding on the officer’s part that dropped you off here”, and explained that they learned there was a shelter for the homeless after the group was brought to the middle school.

    The Senate easily passed a resolution on Monday condemning white supremacist organizations and urging President Trump to speak out against hate groups.

    The resolution — introduced last week by Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.), Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) — cleared the upper chamber by unanimous consent.

    The Senate measure formally condemns “the violence and domestic terrorist attack” that occurred last month around a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Va.

    In addition to urging Trump and the administration to publicly push back against hate groups, the resolution urges Trump and his Cabinet to “address the growing prevalence of those hate groups in the United States.”

    Senators want Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Department of Homeland Security to investigate “all acts of violence, intimidation and domestic terrorism” by white supremacists, white nationalists or associated groups and prevent them “from fomenting and facilitating additional violence.”

    The resolution formally gained the backing of 57 senators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), before it passed the Senate on Monday night.
