Saturday Open Thread | Trump calls NFL Players Who Kneel a “Son of a Bitch”

President Trump told a crowd at a rally for Alabama Senate candidate Luther Strange (R) on Friday night that they should “pick up and leave” NFL games if they see players kneeling during the national anthem.

“When people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem – the only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it’s one player, leave the stadium,” Trump suggested. “I guarantee things will stop.”

“Luther and I and everyone in this arena tonight are unified by the same great American values. We’re proud of our country. We respect our flag,” he continued.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b—- off the field right now,'” he continued, adding, “‘He is fired.'”

Trump has previously blasted NFL player Colin Kaepernick, who gained notoriety after he kneeled during the national anthem to protest the treatment of people of color in the U.S.

The president slammed Kaepernick earlier this year, saying he is a free agent because of his refusal to stand during the national anthem.

    Obamacare had a huge liberal slice- Medicaid. Republicans never would have expanded a single-payer program to poor and working class.

    It bothers me that Lefties ignore it- I think it’s elitist. Medicaid
    is the plan for working poor. To ignore a huge expansion there is to
    ignore them and they are supposedly the reason Lefties exist. The reason Democrats didn’t benefit politically from it was they don’t vote in numbers – they don’t punch their weight. 50% of the births in this county last year were Medicaid. Half.

    Putting it in block grants and shoving the problems off on the
    states won’t work either. Conservatives run plenty of states, and have for the last 30 years. Show me the GOP state with a great health care solution. No one was stopping them from solving this at the state level.Mitch Daniels got the furthest with it in Indiana and no one talks about it because it failed.

    If conservatives could actually do this – cost, quality, access- we’d
    see it in one of the states they run. Collins wants the federal
    Medicaid funding for Maine because they can’t.

    Unfortunately i see nothing but a forced exodus from the island. Then the wealthy friends of friends of the govt will swoop in and privatize everything. I fear the island will not come back from this. Desperation will take over and people will have no choice but to abandon their former lives and go to the willing and accepting relatives on the mainland. How many of those do u think will be able to go back to areas that will now undoubtedly be unattainable or unaffordable to them. This is devastating

    Thousands have been evacuated from near the 90-year-old Guajataca Dam in Puerto Rico in the wake of Hurricane Maria’s destruction.

    Hurricane Maria severed communication lines across the Caribbean, leaving millions with nowhere to go and no instructions for what to do next.

    This is certainly the case in Puerto Rico, where 100 percent of the island was left powerless and residents have struggled to communicate with family members on the United States mainland and elsewhere. Even worse, some might not know where to go for safety in the wake of the storm.

    According to the Associated Press, 1,360 of the island’s 1,600 cellphone towers were downed by Hurricane Maria and 85 percent of above-ground and underground phone and internet cables were knocked out, so making contact with family and friends on the island is limited.

    Officials worried that as many as 70,000 people could be in the path of a massive amount of rushing water in the event the Guajataca Dam releases into the Guajataca River, which flows north through low-lying coastal communities and empties into the ocean.

    The lack of communications has isolated rural areas of the island. Just 15 percent of the island’s communication towers are working, and some of the island’s transmission towers have collapsed. Up to 85 percent of its fiber cables are damaged.

    Power remains completely out on the island, and just 25 percent of it has water service.

    Shock has given way to frayed nerves as officials warned that it could be months before power is restored to some areas, and there is no indication of when communications infrastructure will be fixed. In the capital, streets were choked with traffic as people tried to find loved ones and spent hours waiting in line for gas.

I’m ashamed of our country and hopeless In this world with this moron as our leader. I cry and feel helpless and see a world of hate and bigotry. This doesn’t feel good it shouldn’t be real. Seeing this country with the truest eyes ever keeps them overflowing with tears.

      I am ashamed too. Who would ever have believed things could get so bad?
