Trump to widow of Sgt. La David Johnson: “He knew what he signed up for”

Trump dragging Gold Star families & being insulting and offensive to Sgt. La David Johnson’s widow cannot be tolerated. What kind of Nation are we to allow this? He’s UNFIT for office, dammit! #IMPEACH this thug.

Just when you think it can’t get any worse, the dotard-in-chief does something else that leaves us all collectively facepalming and asking ourselves, what the fuck? This time, it is his comments to a grieving Army widow that have us shaking our head as a nation.

U.S. Army Sgt. La David Johnson died in a deadly ambush in Niger on Oct. 4. It took the president nearly two weeks to reach out to Johnson’s widow, and when he finally did on Tuesday, Local 10 reports Trump told Myeshia Johnson, “He knew what he signed up for … but when it happens it hurts anyway.”

Imagine being the president of the United States and not having the tact or sensitivity to properly address the pregnant widow of a soldier who died in service to the country you are currently running into the ground with your bullshit. For real, bruh?

Trump called Mrs. Johnson at 4:45 p.m., shortly before her husband’s remains arrived at Miami International Airport.

Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-Miami Gardens) witnessed Mrs. Johnson, who is the mother of a 2-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, leaned over the American flag draping her husband’s casket and sobbed uncontrollably.

Sgt. Johnson, 25, was a former Walmart employee who became a member of the 3rd Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He died during a mission fighting alongside Green Berets. His group was ambushed by 50 Islamic militants using rocket propelled grenades and machine guns. Five Nigerian soldiers also died in the ambush.

Johnson’s body was not recovered for 48 hours after he died.

The other three victims of the attack were Staff Sgt. Bryan C. Black, 35, of Puyallup, Wash.; Staff Sgt. Jeremiah W. Johnson, 39, of Springboro, Ohio, and Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, 29, of Lyons, Ga., according to officials with the Department of Defense.

  1. Is the @nytimes calling for the resignation of #JohnKelly? You heard him lie to the country about @RepWilson. Now is the time to speak up!

  2. Now Eric Trump’s wife is lying about she saw a transcript of the phone call with #SgtLaDavidJohnson widow. @SarahHuckabee says no transcript

  3. Twitter is ripping John Kelly’s ass UP!

  4. John Kelly and Trump picked the wrong black woman to fugg with…..

  5. Liza says:

All of this because Trump can’t get the words “I apologize” out of his mouth. Or, in his case, he can’t tweet them.

  6. John Kelly LIED about Fredericka Wilson claiming “she got the money” for a new FBI building. It NEVER happened. The money was approved before she was in Congress.

  7. John Kelly said the country used to value women

And then he proceeds to attack a black Congresswoman b/c she heard what Trump told widow of #SgtLaDavidJohnson

  8. John Kelly is so full of SHIT. He’s defending Trump when we know what he did to the KHANS. The call was on speaker phone. Everyone heard him. La David Johnson’s family admitted Trump disrespected them but John Kelly attacks the black Congresswoman b/c she heard the call. What planet is this?

Because this is not who they have in mind when they go on their rants and their faux-outrage about how taking a knee for endless injustices perpetrated, ‘offends’ their ‘patriotic sensibilities’, and ‘disrespects’ those who fight and give the ultimate sacrifice for this country..

You can do it all on behalf of this country…and be the best at it too… but they’ll never, ever acknowledge, see or appreciate you and your patriotism and excellence and sacrifice, because of your skin color..

Agents of hostile, white foreign entities have more right of place in this country, and are sooner deemed ‘patriots’, than dedicated, patriotic young black men and women, who fight and die for this country..

AP found relatives of four soldiers who died overseas during Trump’s presidency who said they never received calls from him. Relatives of two also confirmed they did not get letters. And proof is plentiful that Barack Obama and George W. Bush – saddled with far more combat casualties than the roughly two dozen so far under Trump – took painstaking steps to write, call or meet bereaved military families.

After her Army son died in an armored vehicle rollover in Syria in May, Sheila Murphy says, she got no call or letter from Trump, even as she waited months for his condolences and wrote him that “some days I don’t want to live.”

Two weeks later, Trump still hasn’t addressed US deaths in Niger

    By Steve Benen

On Oct. 4, exactly two weeks ago, four American soldiers were killed in an ambush in northwestern Africa. Donald Trump, who routinely tweets a series of provocative thoughts in response to deadly terrorism said nothing. As the remains of the U.S. Special Forces soldiers started to return home, Trump again said nothing, golfing as the caskets arrived at Dover Air Force.
As the Washington Post reported today, the president has had plenty to say about a wide range of topics since the deadly attack in Niger – he’s apparently upset with protesting athletes, Democrats, the mayor or San Juan, and major American news organizations – but Trump has remained completely silent on the deadliest attack on U.S. military forces since he took office.

That seemed to change on Monday, when a reporter asked about his reticence, but even then, Trump’s answer covered a lot of ground – he’s impressed with his communications with family members of the fallen, and he’s taken some cheap and misleading shots at Barack Obama – without even trying to address the underlying question:

Why did these four Americans die?

  14. Leah says:

This is called taking his words out of context. You don’t like Trump, we get that. Go cry over something real like the death of the the sergeant and not what you manipulate Trump to say.

    • Words taken out of context my ass. No one is manipulating a damn thing. He said IT and more than Fredericka Wilson heard his old sorry ass. That mofo has no business being in the Oval Office. He stole his way in but Robert Mueller will make him wish he’d never ran for president. I can’t wait until the sob goes to prison and may he rot there.

Why oh why are the loving, thoughtful, heartfelt words and consistently selfless acts of this humble peacemaker, generous, kind and holy family man and man of the people, who never ever said a false or unkind word …and always, always turns the other cheek…in service to the vulnerable and downtrodden .. why’s he being so misunderstood..

Why are the Holy Spirit inspired words and actions of this wonderful, wonderful saint of a man being taken out of context by powerful, heartless, influential mean girls on a blog..?

When oh when is this great intellect and gentle, gentle, kindly, selfless, bighearted, male Mother Theresa incarnate, Saint Buffoon of the Kremlin and Alt-Right Kleptocracy, ever going to be given his due … when will he be finally supported and hailed for his boundless generosity, goodness and never-ending peace efforts…

      When..?

It’s so, so unfair how he’s not been given a chance…or the effusive support, necessary praise and adulation …and unfettered access and control to wreak as much havoc, decimate hard-won protections, unravel our fragile union and democracy, stuff his and his family’s pockets via brazen, endless pocket-picking, bribery and emoluments…all while flinging poo at others, whipping up race and culture wars to deflect from his woes…and colluding with and selling our country out to a hostile foreign enemy in exchange for their dubious shenanigans to keep him illegitimately perched in the People’s House..

Oh just kindly fuck off Leah — or whatever the heck your name is..

Trump’s call to slain soldier’s widow sparks controversy
    10/18/17 08:00 AM
    By Steve Benen

A couple of weeks ago, after the mass shooting in Las Vegas, the Associated Press reported that White House aides felt anxiety over what Donald Trump might say (or tweet) about the mass murders. They were nervous, of course, because of the president’s “troubled track record in such delicate moments.”

As the AP explained, “Trump often has had difficulty embracing a central role of the American presidency: consoling people dealing with intense grief.”

There’s a growing body of evidence to bolster the point.

A Florida congresswoman said that the family of a U.S. service member killed in Niger was “astonished” when President Donald Trump suggested in a phone call that the soldier “must’ve known what he signed up for.”

Rep. Frederica Wilson told NBC Miami that she heard the president’s comment to Sgt. La David T. Johnson’s widow, Myeshia, on speaker phone as they traveled together to meet his body on Tuesday.

“He said, ‘But you know he must’ve known what he signed up for,’” the Democrat recounted Trump saying more than once during the call to express his sympathy. According to Wilson, the conversation lasted somewhere from three to five minutes.

Fallen soldier’s mother says Trump ‘did disrespect my son’ in call with widow
    Updated: 9:35 AM CDT Oct 18, 2017

    (CNN) —
President Donald Trump blasted a Florida congresswoman’s account of a conversation he had with the widow of a soldier killed in an ambush in Niger as “totally fabricated.”

But the soldier’s mother, Cowanda Jones-Johnson, confirmed Rep. Frederica Wilson’s claim that the president said “he knew what he signed up for, but I guess it still hurt.” She told The Washington Post that Trump “did disrespect my son and my daughter and also me and my husband.”

The representative said she was in the car with Myeshia Johnson on Tuesday on the way to Miami International Airport to meet the body of Johnson’s husband, Sgt. La David Johnson, when Trump called. When asked by Miami station WPLG if she indeed heard Trump make the comment, she answered: “Yeah, he said that. To me, that is something that you can say in a conversation, but you shouldn’t say that to a grieving widow.” She added: “That’s so insensitive.”

Trump tweeted Wednesday morning “Democrat Congresswoman totally fabricated what I said to the wife of a soldier who died in action (and I have proof). Sad!”

    • Liza says:

Congresswoman Wilson raises some good questions. And, yes, this incident better be thoroughly investigated.

As for what Trump said, no one had any reason to make it up. Apparently, he was unprepared to talk to the grieving families because he really didn’t want to, he doesn’t know how to comfort grieving people, and he just blathered something stupid and incomprehensibly insensitive which is par for him.

Truthfully, I would be more shocked if Trump had been kind.

      • Liza says:

The “incident” I’m referring to is the ambush where these men were killed.

      • Exactly, Liza. He didn’t want to talk to the grieving families and didn’t even bother to find out the soldier’s name.

      • This isn’t the same family, but that Frederica Wilson and the cnn are trying to paint Trump like some sort of monster that doesn’t give a rats ass about fallen soldiers or their families.?

        • Trish, Trump is a monster who doesn’t give a fuck about ANYONE but his damn greedy self. Use your brain and look how he is treating La David Johnson’s family. He didn’t even mention the fallen soldiers for 12 freaking days. And from that day it’s been a total embarrassing disaster. John Kelly belittled & dehumanized a black Congresswoman b/c he knew white America would believe him over a black woman. Both Trump and John Kelly’s behavior have been beyond the pale to a soldier who has give his life for this country. I absolutely HATE them both.
