Tens of Thousands With Outstanding Warrants Purged From Background Check Database

Tens of thousands of people wanted by law enforcement officials have been removed this year from the FBI criminal background check database that prohibits fugitives from justice from buying guns.

The names were taken out after the FBI in February changed its legal interpretation of “fugitive from justice” to say it pertains only to wanted people who have crossed state lines.

What that means is that those fugitives who were previously prohibited under federal law from purchasing firearms can now buy them, unless barred for other reasons.

………………………………………………………..

After Trump was inaugurated, the Justice Department further narrowed the definition to those who have fled across state lines to avoid prosecution for a crime or to avoid giving testimony in a criminal proceeding.

On Feb. 15, the FBI directed its employees in the Criminal Justice Information Services Division to remove all entries of fugitives from justice from the background check database and said that “entries will not be permitted” under that category until further notice. Before the FBI memo, there were about 500,000 people identified as fugitives from justice in the database — and all of those names were removed.

Now there are 788.

Think on that.
From about FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND…
TO 788.

Just out there, people.
Not on the database.
Guess what they can do now..

BUY WEAPONS OF DEATH.

Does this make you feel MORE SAFE… or LESS SAFE…

They are all Law and Order when it comes to Non-White folks..

But, they can’t study White Racist Nationalist Groups..
But, they can Black Lives Matter…

And now, we have a fugitive database, which has pretty much been eliminated.

Now, tell me Ladies and Gentlemen…what would happen if 44 had done this?

Uh huh
Uh huh.

    http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/bs-md-ci-officers-back-to-work-20171128-story.html
    Excerpt:

One officer now patrols the Baltimore waterfront. Another works with the unit that polices the city in helicopters. A third officer, now a detective, investigates powerful drug rings.

Today, all six officers who were charged in the arrest and death of Freddie Gray case are back on duty.

None are back to patrolling the streets of West Baltimore, where Gray was arrested in 2015 and suffered a severe injury in the back of a police van.

“They were offered positions outside the patrol division, and they’re satisfied with their assignments,” said Michael Davey, the attorney for the union that represents Baltimore police officers.

SNIP: Rep Moore had to CHIN CHECK David Greene

GREENE: I know you say it’s his choice, but I want to ask you about, you know, the choice of the caucus and how to respond to things like this because even before the Conyers sexual harassment allegations became public, there were some questions about how the CBC responded to things like this. In October, your colleague Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson of Texas was criticized by many for suggesting that women can bear some responsibility for being sexually harassed. And we should say she later walked that back. But given that, given the response to Conyers, do you worry at all about the credibility of a caucus that has this foundation in the civil rights movement.

MOORE: David, interrupt you right now.

    GREENE: Please, no, please.

MOORE: Let me interrupt you right now. First of all, this is not a, quote, unquote, “Congressional Black Caucus problem.” The problem of sexual harassment is very pervasive. I wouldn’t be shocked or stunned if there were a hundred men in this body on both sides of the aisle in both chambers who are accused of this behavior. Sexual predation is pervasive not only in Congress but in our society. We need – this is a social problem that has bubbled up at this time. And so for you to characterize this as some sort of Congressional Black Caucus problem, I take offense to that. And just let me say, the Congressional Black Caucus met yesterday, and we categorically are opposed to sexual assault. We stand firm on that ground.
As a matter of fact, the Congressional Black Caucus has taken leadership in promoting sexual assault training. We have one of our members from Detroit, by the way, Brenda Lawrence, who has taken the lead, along with Jackie Speier, in reforming the means, methods, modes for women to be able to come forth with their complaints that are not as arduous and grueling as the current process. And so, David, I would have to say, no, this is not a Congressional Black Caucus problem.

GREENE: Well, Congressman, I want to say forgive me if I came across in any way suggesting that.

MOORE: Yeah, you did come across that way.

Sessions hints at crackdown on recreational pot, affecting California, other states
    NOVEMBER 29, 2017 06:12 PM

Attorney General Jeff Sessions hinted Wednesday that the Justice Department may take a tougher stance on recreational marijuana in the near future, a change in policy that would have a significant impact on the five states plus the District of Columbia that already allow the drug to be used for more than medicinal purposes.

California is scheduled to join that group on Jan. 1.

Sessions and other DOJ officials previously indicated they would continue the policy laid out by the department under former President Barack Obama, which in essence allows state officials leeway in how they deal with the drug as long as they meet certain standards, like keeping cannabis out of the hands of minors, keeping it from crossing into states where it isn’t legal and preventing drugged driving.

Marijuana, however, remains illegal under federal law, and there was always the possibility the Trump administration could crack down.

“In fact, we’re looking at that very hard right now, we had a meeting yesterday and talked about it at some length,” Sessions said at a press conference Wednesday. “It’s my view that the use of marijuana is detrimental, and we should not give encouragement in any way to it, and it represents a federal violation, which is in the law and is subject to being enforced.”

A group of players in the National Football League accepted an offer from NFL owners for $100 million for social justice causes in exchange for … umm … I want to use a term that expresses the exact sentiment while still conveying a modicum of journalistic integrity. I think the most precise way to describe what the owners want in exchange for this obscene amount of cash is an Old English term called “Shutting the fuck up.”

Actually, none of the parties involved will say outright that the proposed sum is a payoff for discontinuing the protests against injustice and equality during the national anthem.

A group of mostly black players calling themselves “The Players Coalition” held a conference call on Wednesday evening and accepted the offer, according to the Chicago Tribune. The group was started by Malcolm Jenkins of the Philadelphia Eagles and former NFL wide receiver Anquan Boldin. However, the article reports that there are close to 40 players who want to reject the offer, including Miami Dolphins safety Michael Thomas and 49ers safety Eric Reid.

Typically costing $65, pedestrian tickets significantly disrupt the lives of poor people, who were about six times as likely to receive a pedestrian citation as those living in the city’s more affluent zip codes

      Equal Justice Initiative‏Verified account
      @eji_org

The sheriff’s office said issuing tickets is necessary to reduce fatalities in Florida’s most populous city, which has one of the highest pedestrian fatality rates in the country.

But ProPublica found no strong relationship between where tickets are issued and where fatalities occur.

In fact, census tracts where the population is mostly black had similar numbers of deadly crashes compared to other neighborhoods, but residents there were ticketed anywhere from two to five times as much.

Even larger racial disparities exist in ticketing for violations of less-familiar statutes.

For example, 78% of all tickets for “walking in the roadway where sidewalks are provided” were issued to black pedestrians, as were 68% of tickets for “failing to cross the road at a right angle or shortest route.”

      Equal Justice Initiative‏Verified account
      @eji_org

Almost a third of all tickets issued in this period went to African American males from age 14 to 35.

Black pedestrians received 55 percent of the tickets issued even though the city’s population is only 29 percent black.

    1. Donald is right – the Mueller investigations are done before the end of the year, because he’s pardoning everybody, including himself. The GOP will do nothing outside of a couple of expressions of concern.

    2. Crosscheck is going to be weaponized for 2018 so as to institutionalize the GOP as the American version of the PRI.

    3. This tax bill is intensely ideological, and fits a number of categories that ALEC has been chipping at for years. Those blue city/blue state taxation schemes fund a lot of things that make life broadly better. Conservative ideologues want government large enough for some slush and sinecures for high level cronies, and for badly trained cops to kick the shit out of n****rs, sp*cs, f*gs and poor white trash, but little else. This gets them toward that goal.

    4. Next up will be repeal of the 17th amendment. What little black and urban representation that will be allowed will be swarmed in the state legislatures by white rural/exurban members.

REASONS TO FIGHT THE GOP TAX SCAM:

    hat tip- BJ

    1. The individual mandate repeal would cause health insurance premiums to rise sharply and millions to lose coverage.

    2. The CBO estimates the bill’s automatic spending cuts would slash Medicare by $25B annually.

    3. It would blow up the deficit by at least $1.4T, providing Republicans with an evergreen excuse to cut popular New Deal programs. (Lil’ Marco has already admitted this.)

    4. It would hurt the poor, the middle class, students, retirees, etc., to give rich parasites like the Trumps, DeVoses, Princes, Kochs, Mercers, et al, billions in tax relief annually. Forever.

    5. It will exacerbate the already critical problem of wealth inequality and undercut local blue state governments’ ability to assist their vulnerable populations.

  19. rikyrah says:

More on the GOP Tax Scam:

Some measures are barely connected to the realm of taxation, such as the lifting of a 1954 ban on political activism by churches and the conferring of a new legal right for fetuses in the House bill — both on the wish list of the evangelical right.

With a potentially far-reaching dimension, elements in both the House and Senate bills could constrain the ability of states and local governments to levy their own taxes, pressuring them to limit spending on health care, education, public transportation and social services. In their longstanding battle to shrink government, Republicans have found in the tax bill a vehicle to broaden the fight beyond Washington.

The result is a behemoth piece of legislation that could widen American economic inequality while diminishing the power of local communities to marshal relief for vulnerable people — especially in high-tax states like California and New York, which, not coincidentally, tend to vote Democratic.

    The GOP Tax Scam

    ……………………….

The tax plan has been marketed by President Trump and Republican leaders as a straightforward if enormous rebate for the masses, a $1.5 trillion package of cuts to spur hiring and economic growth. But as the bill has been rushed through Congress with scant debate, its far broader ramifications have come into focus, revealing a catchall legislative creation that could reshape major areas of American life, from education to health care.

  24. rikyrah says:

So, you mean that the Secretary of Exxon might not get his $ 71 million dollar tax break?

    Oh, the horror.

NYTimes story on Tillerson being pushed to the exit.

It was not immediately clear whether Mr. Trump has given final approval to the plan, but he has been said to have soured on Mr. Tillerson and in general is ready to make a change at the State Department. John F. Kelly, the White House chief of staff, developed the transition plan and has discussed it with other officials.

Under his plan, the shake-up of the national security team would happen around the end of the year or shortly afterward. But for all of his public combativeness, Mr. Trump is notoriously reluctant to fire people, and it was not known if Mr. Tillerson had agreed to step down by then. Public disclosure of Mr. Kelly’s transition plan may be meant as a signal to the secretary that it is time to go.

…. The ouster of Mr. Tillerson would end a turbulent reign at the State Department for the former Exxon Mobil chief executive, who has been largely marginalized over the last year. Mr. Trump and Mr. Tillerson have been at odds over a host of major issues, including the Iran nuclear deal, the confrontation with North Korea and a clash between Arab allies. The secretary was reported to have privately called Mr. Trump a “moron” and the president publicly criticized Mr. Tillerson for “wasting his time” with a diplomatic outreach to North Korea.

Mr. Tillerson’s departure has been widely anticipated for months, but associates have said he was intent on finishing out the year to retain whatever dignity he could. Even so, an end-of-year exit would make his time in office the shortest of any secretary of state whose tenure was not ended by a change in presidents in nearly 120 years.

….Mr. Tillerson’s appointment was something of an experiment from the start. Never before had a president named a secretary of state with no prior experience in government, politics or the military. Mr. Trump, who himself had no government or military experience before this year**, bet that Mr. Tillerson would be able to translate his formidable skills in the corporate world to international diplomacy after 41 years at Exxon Mobil. [** I think I see your problem, folks.]

But Mr. Tillerson has often been on a different page than Mr. Trump, and he has spent much of his time reorganizing the State Department, slashing its budget and pushing out more than 2,000 career diplomats. Even on that he ran into serious troubles. Just this week, the counselor he brought in to execute his plan quit after just three months.

A sign of his fading fortunes in the White House has been the changing views of Mr. Kelly. Once a defender of Mr. Tillerson, Mr. Kelly is described by colleagues as now having mixed opinions, seeing him as a wounded figure who may no longer be able to be as effective as the president needs his secretary to be.
