Tens of Thousands With Outstanding Warrants Purged From Background Check Database

Tens of thousands of people wanted by law enforcement officials have been removed this year from the FBI criminal background check database that prohibits fugitives from justice from buying guns.

The names were taken out after the FBI in February changed its legal interpretation of “fugitive from justice” to say it pertains only to wanted people who have crossed state lines.

What that means is that those fugitives who were previously prohibited under federal law from purchasing firearms can now buy them, unless barred for other reasons.

After Trump was inaugurated, the Justice Department further narrowed the definition to those who have fled across state lines to avoid prosecution for a crime or to avoid giving testimony in a criminal proceeding.

On Feb. 15, the FBI directed its employees in the Criminal Justice Information Services Division to remove all entries of fugitives from justice from the background check database and said that “entries will not be permitted” under that category until further notice. Before the FBI memo, there were about 500,000 people identified as fugitives from justice in the database — and all of those names were removed.

Now there are 788.

Think on that.
From about FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND…
TO 788.

Sexual predation is pervasive not only in Congress but in our society. We need – this is a social problem that has bubbled up at this time.     A story about the consequences of electing vermin

    Ms. O works for a school-to-work transition program for high school students with disabilities. Yesterday she got an emergency phone call: the parents of one of their students just got deported and this young man with disabilities and his younger brother are now effectively orphaned. A lowly paid job coach is volunteering to drive the young man to his internship and they’re trying to figure out long term support for these forcibly abandoned kids. I can’t imagine how frantic their parents must feel.

    Attorney General Jeff Sessions hinted Wednesday that the Justice Department may take a tougher stance on recreational marijuana in the near future, a change in policy that would have a significant impact on the five states plus the District of Columbia that already allow the drug to be used for more than medicinal purposes.

    California is scheduled to join that group on Jan. 1.

    Sessions and other DOJ officials previously indicated they would continue the policy laid out by the department under former President Barack Obama, which in essence allows state officials leeway in how they deal with the drug as long as they meet certain standards, like keeping cannabis out of the hands of minors, keeping it from crossing into states where it isn’t legal and preventing drugged driving.

    Marijuana, however, remains illegal under federal law, and there was always the possibility the Trump administration could crack down.

    “In fact, we’re looking at that very hard right now, we had a meeting yesterday and talked about it at some length,” Sessions said at a press conference Wednesday. “It’s my view that the use of marijuana is detrimental, and we should not give encouragement in any way to it, and it represents a federal violation, which is in the law and is subject to being enforced.”

    A group of players in the National Football League accepted an offer from NFL owners for $100 million for social justice causes in exchange for … umm … I want to use a term that expresses the exact sentiment while still conveying a modicum of journalistic integrity. I think the most precise way to describe what the owners want in exchange for this obscene amount of cash is an Old English term called “Shutting the fuck up.”

    Actually, none of the parties involved will say outright that the proposed sum is a payoff for discontinuing the protests against injustice and equality during the national anthem.

    A group of mostly black players calling themselves “The Players Coalition” held a conference call on Wednesday evening and accepted the offer, according to the Chicago Tribune. The group was started by Malcolm Jenkins of the Philadelphia Eagles and former NFL wide receiver Anquan Boldin. However, the article reports that there are close to 40 players who want to reject the offer, including Miami Dolphins safety Michael Thomas and 49ers safety Eric Reid.

    1. Donald is right – the Mueller investigations are done before the end of the year, because he’s pardoning everybody, including himself. The GOP will do nothing outside of a couple of expressions of concern.

    2. Crosscheck is going to be weaponized for 2018 so as to institutionalize the GOP as the American version of the PRI.

    3. This tax bill is intensely ideological, and fits a number of categories that ALEC has been chipping at for years. Those blue city/blue state taxation schemes fund a lot of things that make life broadly better.     1. The individual mandate repeal would cause health insurance premiums to rise sharply and millions to lose coverage.

    2. The CBO estimates the bill’s automatic spending cuts would slash Medicare by $25B annually.

    3. It would blow up the deficit by at least $1.4T, providing Republicans with an evergreen excuse to cut popular New Deal programs. (Lil’ Marco has already admitted this.)

    4. It would hurt the poor, the middle class, students, retirees, etc., to give rich parasites like the Trumps, DeVoses, Princes, Kochs, Mercers, et al, billions in tax relief annually. Forever.

    5. It will exacerbate the already critical problem of wealth inequality and undercut local blue state governments’ ability to assist their vulnerable populations.

    With a potentially far-reaching dimension, elements in both the House and Senate bills could constrain the ability of states and local governments to levy their own taxes, pressuring them to limit spending on health care, education, public transportation and social services. In their longstanding battle to shrink government, Republicans have found in the tax bill a vehicle to broaden the fight beyond Washington.

    The result is a behemoth piece of legislation that could widen American economic inequality while diminishing the power of local communities to marshal relief for vulnerable people — especially in high-tax states like California and New York, which, not coincidentally, tend to vote Democratic.

    It was not immediately clear whether Mr. Trump has given final approval to the plan, but he has been said to have soured on Mr. Tillerson and in general is ready to make a change at the State Department. John F. Kelly, the White House chief of staff, developed the transition plan and has discussed it with other officials.

    Under his plan, the shake-up of the national security team would happen around the end of the year or shortly afterward. But for all of his public combativeness, Mr. Trump is notoriously reluctant to fire people, and it was not known if Mr. Tillerson had agreed to step down by then.     Two ways:

    1) If he takes the stand, he can be asked about these matters and then can be confronted with prior statements if he changes his story.

    2) His prior statements can be used as direct evidence if they are relevant to the offense. A defendant’s statements are admissible.
