Special counsel Robert Mueller has added a prosecutor with significant cybercrime expertise to his team.

Ryan Dickey, a senior lawyer in the Justice Department’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section, has been detailed to Mueller’s team since early November, a U.S. official told POLITICO.

The Washington Post first reported Dickey’s move.

Mueller’s addition of a veteran cyber expert to his team suggests that his investigation may be focusing on computer hacking, an element of Russia’s alleged 2016 election meddling that has received less attention than issues like possible collusion between Moscow and President Donald Trump’s team.

Dickey’s highest-profile case involved Marcel Lazar, also known as “Guccifer,” a Romanian man who hacked the personal email accounts of prominent Washington figures like Secretary of State Colin Powell and Hillary Clinton aide Sidney Blumenthal. A federal judge sentenced him to 52 months in prison in September 2016.
Dickey has also prosecuted cases involving credit card fraud and illegal file-sharing.

Some experts have suggested that the special counsel probe may result in charges under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, the landmark cybercrime law that makes it illegal to aid in a computer intrusion. If any of Trump’s associates knew about and encouraged the hacking of Democrats’ emails and computer servers, they could be charged under the statute.

In November, The Wall Street Journal reported that Mueller’s team was letting the original DOJ prosecutors retain the investigation of the actual cyber intrusions into the DNC and other targets.

Before moving to CCIPS in 2014, Dickey was an assistant U.S. attorney in the cybercrime unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, which has run significant cyber cases like the investigation of WikiLeaks.

    Serena nearly died after giving birth. She had small blood clots in the lungs and had to tell the doctors what she needed. They didn’t believe she had pain and thought the medication was making her confused.

    We recently learned that Donald Trump, feeling the heat as the Russia scandal was intensifying last summer, personally urged Republican lawmakers to end congressional scrutiny of the controversy. The president’s lobbying campaign targeted, among others, the Senate majority leader and chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

    As we discussed at the time, when Congress is investigating a scandal involving the president, the president isn’t supposed to call lawmakers to pressure them to stop.

    Yesterday, however, as Politico noted, Trump took his lobbying campaign in a more public direction.

    President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged Republicans in Congress to “take control” of the investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, prompting some head-scratching from a top GOP investigator on Capitol Hill.

    “The single greatest Witch Hunt in American history continues,” Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. “There was no collusion, everybody including the Dems knows there was no collusion, & yet on and on it goes. Russia & the world is laughing at the stupidity they are witnessing. Republicans should finally take control!”

    Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens (R) is not the first governor to be caught up in a sex scandal, but this story isn’t quite like the one’s we’re used to.

    The revelations broke last night with this report from KMOV, the CBS affiliate in St. Louis.

    Governor Eric Greitens on Wednesday night confirmed to News 4 he had an extramarital affair, an admission a months-long News 4 investigation prompted.

    In a recording obtained by News 4, a woman says she had a sexual encounter with Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens and that he tried to blackmail her to keep the encounter quiet.

    The details were provided to News 4 by the woman’s ex-husband, claiming the sexual relationship happened between his now ex-wife and Greitens in March 2015. News 4 is not naming the woman and she has not made an on-the-record comment about the story.

    The Lowest White Man:

    Trumpism is a religion founded on patriarchy and white supremacy.

    It is the belief that even the least qualified man is a better choice than the most qualified woman and a belief that the most vile, anti-intellectual, scandal-plagued simpleton of a white man is sufficient to follow in the presidential footsteps of the best educated, most eloquent, most affable black man.

    As President Lyndon B. Johnson said in the 1960s to a young Bill Moyers: “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”

    Trump’s supporters are saying to us, screaming to us, that although he may be the “lowest white man,” he is still better than Barack Obama, the “best colored man.”

    In a way, Donald Trump represents white people’s right to be wrong and still be right. He is the embodiment of the unassailability of white power and white privilege.

    To abandon him is to give up on the pact that America has made with its white citizens from the beginning: The government will help to underwrite white safety and success, even at the expense of other people in this country, whether they be Native Americans, African-Americans or new immigrants.

    But this idea of elevating the lowest white man over those more qualified or deserving didn’t begin with Johnson’s articulation and won’t end with Trump’s manifestation. This is woven into the fabric of the flag.

    …No matter how much of an embarrassment and a failure Trump proves to be, his exploits must be judged a success. He must be deemed a correction to Barack Obama and a superior choice to Hillary Clinton. White supremacy demands it. Patriarchy demands it. Trump’s supporters demand it.

      Truth.

      We’ve talked about this a lot, that Trump is the backlash for a black president.

      But what I never understood until after the 2016 election was that Hillary being a woman was probably more of an issue than Hillary being the wrong woman. Of course, there is no way to measure this.
