Friday Open Thread | Don Lemon: The President of the United States is a racist

I didn’t think I could hate Trump more but I do. Racists feel emboldened now! So glad Don Lemon cut this sorry racist ass off. Don’t put up with it EVER AGAIN! Cut’em OFF! The rest of the media need to follow this lead. This is how it’s done, people. Don’t argue with them. Shut the bigots down.

When people show you who they are, believe them..

The first time, and all the other times …

And before they are propelled (and fiercely and head-scratchingly protected) into undeserved and unearned power, celebrity, and respect…even if mostly transactional, humoring and patronizing ..

And with all the attendant narcissistic self-aggrandizing and awfulness completely glossed over – and normalized, by those impressed with and swayed by shiny objects and money …massive amounts of it, no matter how questionably sourced and acquired – because somehow in our shallow world, money – no matter its source, or the lucky fluke, entitlement mindset, privilege, tokenism and singular shepherding that allows the having of it, has somehow very erroneously become the measure of ‘smarts’ and ‘ability’ and ‘worthiness’ … instantly prioritizing and elevating the needs, wants and opinions of the often warped, egotistic and self-interested ‘millionaires and billionaires’ (fake ones too) who pat each other on the back, buy and own our elected folks … and worse, with the assist of a hostile foreign entity, fooled into handing one the almighty nuclear codes..

Fool me once, shame on me… fool me twice …And all that good stuff wise folk used to say..

The massive outrage at the moment is appreciated, even if also to a large extent, variously empty, disingenuous, exhausting, and probably in the end, only ‘trendy’, mostly lip service from some dubious and also guilty types …including some on our side, who also now self-righteously chime in, but remain unchanged in their own often insidiously racist ways…

We will for now rightly focus our ire and efforts on the treasonous buffoon, his alt-right supporters and complicit enablers – including the previously much-touted ‘honorable’, ‘patriotic’ former generals who are now for all intents and purpose, essentially, dangerously shameless sycophants, fully complicit in the decimation of our democracy and fragile union, but self-interestedly having the time of their lives wielding power behind the scenes …enjoying gourmet meatloaf, chocolate cake, ice cream scoops and all the even more exclusive perks of that awesome structure …while playing guru to their useful but treasonous idiot … And perpetually with satisfied smirks on their faces, grinning at their demented ward’s ‘jokes’ …as they seat flanking him during ‘meetings’ ….

But at some point when we are done with ejecting the abomination holding the People’s House hostage, hopefully, with all this newly-informed and acquired emboldening, we will also revisit some of the other hypocrites.. including those among us …the so-called ‘liberal’, ‘progressive’, ‘feminist’ insidiously also racist ones..

    Refresher..

“…When Donald Trump publicly floated the idea of running for president in 1999, his ex-wife Marla Maples made it clear she would spill the beans on her ex-husband if he were to make it to the general election.

“If he is really serious about being president and runs in the general election next year, I will not be silent,” Maples told London Telegraph. “I will feel it is my duty as an American citizen to tell the people what he is really like.”

The reaction from Trump and his attorney was swift and brutal. They launched a full-court effort in the press to discredit Maples and withheld an alimony payment to “send a message.” The episode illustrates how Trump uses character assassination and threats to quash any opposition. Maples has largely remained silent on Trump’s 2016 candidacy.

“She’s pretty upset that she hasn’t been in the limelight,” Trump told reporters about Maples, according to the Associated Press. “But she got a little limelight today. I guess she wants her day in the sun.”

“It’s too bad the venom that she’s got, and I thought I was very nice to her,” Trump said of Maples to Fox News’ Neil Cavuto. “I’ve taken good care of her. But she’s got a lot of venom and it’s too bad. And it’s just not becoming of her, but I think she’ll probably be more responsible.”

“I mean you have a confidentiality agreement; you’re not allowed to talk,” continued Trump. “And she goes out and says, ‘I wouldn’t this, I wouldn’t that.’ So I say, ‘Why am I paying money to somebody that’s violated an agreement?’ But we’ll see what happens in the future and if in the future she continues I guess I`ll have to take very strong measures.”

“…Trump’s lawyer, Jay Goldberg, was even harsher in his criticism of Maples, saying, “The 15 minutes of glory ended when she left Donald’s side. So this is a perfect way to attract publicity. All of her actions stand for the proposition ‘Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.'”

Goldberg even took a shot at Maples’ intelligence, saying, “Ms. Maples didn’t have the capacity to understand, participate, or take a role in the business world. The public is quite aware of the difference in capacity, mental capacity, between Marla Maples and Ivana Trump.”

Then, Trump, who the Daily News reported was enraged by Maples’ comments, said he wouldn’t pay the remaining $1.5 million of his alimony, the balance of the pair’s divorce settlement which was due that week.

“We notified the court that we are not paying and that we are putting the check in an escrow account,” Trump’s lawyer said to the Daily News.

Maples’ lawyer, William Beslow, said the payment was overdue and that Maples “respects the privacy of her marriage.” They also hit back at Trump’s team for going after her.

“One has to ask, ‘Why now are Mr. Trump’s representatives maligning Ms. Maples?’ and the truth is clear,” Beslow stated.

The pair headed to court over the missed payment, but a Manhattan judge declined to consider Trump’s claims that Maples violated her prenuptial agreement.

“The interview reveals no details about the marriage,” Maples’ lawyer said. “In all other respects, she is as free as anyone to make statements about Mr. Trump.

Trump’s lawyer then claimed Trump had no intention of withholding alimony, but wanted to send a message.

“It was never our intention to withhold the $1.5 million check,” Goldberg said to the New York Post. “Our purpose was to send a message that she was playing close to the fire.

“She’s certainly a woman scorned,” he said. “She’s unhappy because she was a failure here in New York. She didn’t accomplish anything. She got no roles, except The Will Rogers Follies, which Donald got for her.”

Jennifer Bretan, a spokeswoman for Maples, blasted Trump to the Post.

“It’s the sign of real insecurity that Donald Trump feels the need to authorize his mouthpiece to strike out against an ex-wife who he has basically been holding financially hostage. ”

Meanwhile, Maples’ lawyer, Beslow, took a last shot at Trump.

“Ms. Maples left Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump did not leave Ms. Maples,” Beslow said.

  4. yahtzeebutterfly says:

Rev. Al Sharpton did not want to just reduce discussion to Trump’s using the s***hole rhetoric but “let’s not forget the policy. They were in a policy meeting on immigration law. Dr. KIng didn’t just fight what Gov. George Wallace said. He fought to change the segregation laws, the Jim Crow laws. They are moving toward laws that are race-based. And, if we miss what is going on in terms of changing legislation…”

And the media people on TV calling him a racist are a day late and a dollar short.

Where were they during his birther campaign? If they were doing their job, he wouldn’t be the so-called president.

We’re one year into his destructive and dangerous “presidency”.

It did not have to be. It should not have happened. MSM owns this.

      • majiir says:

Although he is now busy on Twitter trying to say he didn’t call these nations sh*tholes, I believe that he said it even though some GOP senators are claiming they didn’t “hear” him say it in the meeting. I believe it because Trump used profanity in his campaign rallies last year, and his supporters cheered. The only reason he’s now claiming he didn’t say it is due to the huge backlash he’s receiving.

    • eliihass says:

All well and good and mighty bold of Steve Schmidt to call this spade a spade …except that he was also the guy who helped try to foist Sarah Palin on America ..

I believe in redemption and forgiveness …but who’s to say that most of these formerly complicit republicans seemingly on the outs with their party and making sense at the moment, won’t revert back to their awful ways …sooner, if they were offered any of the sweet gigs like Svengali Kelly and Bannon, flattered and made to feel important …or later, once their party trots out an even more harmful but ‘slicker’ and more ‘disciplined’ racist like Pence, Ryan etc.

I appreciate the momentary high-mindedness of some of these previously awful and brazenly complicit, but let’s not still let our guard down..

As they say, the best predictor of future behavior is relevant past behavior … aka if someone shows you who they are, believe them..

This would be as applicable to the buffoon and his current cast of greedy, treasonous cohorts, as well as many members of his party who aren’t with them at the moment..

Who can forget Romney …one minute he’s making a spot-on speech warning about the buffoon …and next thing he’s flying coach, lugging his own luggage at JFK, and shamelessly groveling to the buffoon for a cabinet spot as Sec. of State..

Or Jeff Flake, Bob Corker, Condoleeza Rice, Jeff Kasich etc..

Don’t even get me started on ‘I am a Democrat, Alan Dershowitz’..

Can’t and mustn’t trust any of these folks..

Look at how Bob Woodward the guy who couldn’t and wouldn’t shut these past 8+ years, has suddenly demurred …and become all faux-cautious; …suddenly gone mute and on the rare occasion he chimes in, all protective of and making endless excuses for the buffoon …even with the ongoing insanity and destruction to our country and democracy …Just when the country needed Woodward to actually speak up, put his much-touted book-dealmaking ‘investigative journalistic’ skills to use, he very uncharacteristically, demurs ..

    • majiir says:

This cannot be true because the accepted meme is that black folks are the only Americans that hate cops. The excuse for this dude shooting the cop is “baked” into our society. His act will be attributed to either “economic anxiety” or “mental illness,” and his family members and friends will crawl out of the woodwork, express surprise about what he did and say that he’s a good neighbor, friend, and a “caring” family member.

Donald Trump’s “I Am Not a Moron” Tour: A Report Card
    KEVIN DRUM
    JAN. 12, 2018 1:33 AM

Stung by Michael Wolff’s portrayal of him as a childlike idiot in Fire and Fury, President Trump embarked on a series of public events this week designed to show the country that he’s well briefed and in command of his administration. How’s that going?

Monday evening: Tries to sing along to the national anthem but can’t remember all the words. Grade: C

Tuesday morning: Holds televised roundtable on immigration. Absent-mindedly agrees to abandon his immigration plan and adopt the Democrats’ plan instead until Kevin McCarthy interrupts to correct him. Grade: D

Wednesday noon: Tells the press that he got letters from a “lot” of TV anchors saying that Tuesday’s immigration session was “one of the greatest meetings they’ve ever witnessed.” Grade: C-

Wednesday afternoon: Announces that Norway has purchased a batch of F-52 fighters, a plane that doesn’t exist. Trump’s confusion probably stemmed from his belief that Norway had bought 52 F-35 jets. In fact, Norway has authorized the purchase of only 40 F-35s. Grade: D-

Thursday morning: After watching Fox & Friends, tweets that he opposes extension of warrantless surveillance, something that his administration has been pushing for weeks. This sends Congress into a temporary tizzy until an aide tells Trump what he’s done and he puts up a second tweet walking back the first one. Grade: F

I’ve no idea how anyone buys the tripe Kasich is selling..

Packaging slime ‘inoffensively’, doesn’t make it any less offensive or better than when it’s callously flung ..

  16. eliihass says:

“…OSLO — It was already past midnight on Friday when the news arrived in Norway: A day after meeting with Norway’s prime minister in Washington, Trump told members of Congress that the United States needed more immigrants from places like Norway and fewer immigrants from countries like Haiti.

Many in this prosperous Scandinavian country were already asleep, but several prominent Norwegians who were still online took to Twitter to vent their outrage and disgust, not only at Mr. Trump’s vulgar language but at what many saw as a racially tinged insult.

“The real White House: Trump calls Haiti and African countries ‘shithole’ countries to the face of members of Congress, and uses Norway to prove his racism,” wrote Andreas Wiese, a newspaper commentator who manages the House of Literature, a popular cultural center in Oslo, Norway’s capital.

Prime Minister Erna Solberg’s visit to Washington to meet Mr. Trump — where they held a joint news conference on Wednesday at the White House — was big news in Norway, and the encounter had not gone without a hitch: Mr. Trump pointed to the sale of American-made “F-52s and F-35 fighter jets,” a remark that puzzled many listeners since there is no such thing as an F-52 fighter jet. (There are F-52s in the video game “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.”)

Helge Ogrim, a veteran journalist who used to cover the United States for the Norwegian News Agency, said of Mr. Trump’s latest remark: “It falls into a pattern of nativist and very unpleasant language from a poorly qualified president, if not worse. President Trump seems to relish in derogatory remarks about others and praise for himself. This incident, just after his blunder with the fictional ‘F-52’ planes, further lowers the respect for his office and for the U.S. abroad.”

“His vulgar racism is exceeded perhaps only by his ignorance,” she said. “Countries like El Salvador and Haiti are in terrible condition in large part because of long histories of American support for right-wing dictatorships and crony capitalism. And why would anyone in Norway give up their social benefits — universal health care on a single payer system, no college tuition, and the like — to come to the U.S., which has none of it?”

This was not the first time Mr. Trump had rankled Scandinavians with off-the-cuff remarks. In February, he puzzled and alarmed Swedes when, in a speech discussing refugee policies in Europe, he suggested that a terrorist attack had occurred “last night in Sweden.” No such thing had taken place.

“Does Trump know that Norway is neighbors with what-happened-last-night-in-Sweden?” a Swedish social worker, Ulf Fogelstrom, quipped on Twitter.

Norway (population 5.2 million) and Haiti (population 10.9 million) are both relatively small countries, but their situations could hardly be more different. Norway is one of the world’s wealthiest nations, with rich oil reserves, a mighty sovereign wealth fund and a gross domestic product per capita that is about 23 percent higher than that of the United States. Haiti, the world’s first free black republic, is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere…”

      P.S –

It was important to hear the young Haitian-American lawyer remind the panel on MSNBC a little while ago, that America’s destabilization of sovereign countries and manipulation of their governments over the years, has partially fueled the exodus from those affected countries, and immigration to this..
