Black Panther Movie | WakandaForever

Second weekend for ‘Black Panther’ is one of the best ever. ‘The question isn’t so much if it gets to $1 billion, but how far beyond that number does it go?

NEW YORK — “Black Panther” scored one of the best second weekends ever, with an estimated $108 million in ticket sales, putting it on track to rank among the highest-grossing blockbusters ever.

Ryan Coogler’s Marvel sensation is on a box office course that few films have managed, according to studio estimates Sunday. It is only the fourth film to earn $100 million in its second weekend, along with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($149.2 million), “Jurassic World” ($106.6 million) and “The Avengers” ($103.1 million).

Only “The Force Awakens” had a better second weekend than “Black Panther,” which dropped by 47 percent after its opening weekend of $201.8 million.

“Black Panther” has grossed $400 million domestically and $704 million worldwide in two weeks. The film, starring Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan, has held even better overseas, where it dropped by only 42 percent over the weekend. Its release in China, the world’s second-largest film market, is set for March 9.

“Whatever your projections for ‘Black Panther’ might be, just increase them by 20 percent and you might be on point,” said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for comScore. “Now the question isn’t so much if it gets to $1 billion, but how far beyond that number does it go.”

The results put it in the company of “Jurassic World,” which ended up grossing $1.67 billion worldwide, and “The Avengers,” which hauled in $1.52 billion. Both rank among the top five of all time, not accounting for inflation.

And the movie is doing it with an especially diverse audience. The weekend’s audience was 33 percent African-American, 37 percent Caucasian, 18 percent Hispanic and 7 percent Asian, according to comScore.

A co-worker and I do the Wakandan salute every morning when we see each other. We stop EVERYTHING and do it! A few others have tried to join in but if they don’t do it right we shut them down. I still view this movie at home almost weekly.

I have so many but the arrival scene touched my soul from the beginning. I had tears at seeing the people herding their sheep and waving up at the ship as it flew over them. The music and the scene made me so emotional.

  21. Black Panther isn’t just a terrific movie — it’s also proved to be a record-crushing machine. Here’s a quick roundup of its success thus far:

It had the fifth-largest opening weekend in history.
It crushed overseas sales projections and challenged the industry notion that “black films don’t travel.”

It passed Titanic to become the third highest-grossing movie of all time in the US, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Avatar.

That means it’s now the highest-grossing film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — as well as the biggest superhero movie of all time.

  23. If Wakanda Had An Orchestra: Watch This Beautiful Symphonic Rendition Of ‘All The Stars’

    https://blavity.com/if-wakanda-had-an-orchestra-watch-this-beautiful-symphonic-rendition-of-all-the-stars

In a beautiful symphonic performance of Black Panther’s “All the Stars,” the collective adulation for the history-making Marvel movie will live on forever.

The rendition of the popular song from the Black Panther soundtrack is performed by the Re-Collective Orchestra, a predominantly black orchestra. As of Wednesday morning, video of the performance has received over 38,000 views.

    [vimeo 261409490 w=640 h=360]

As described in its Vimeo bio, the orchestra’s “re-imagination of Black Panther’s title track, ‘All the Stars’” was inspired by the group’s own “iconic black superhero,” composer and conductor Matt Jones, as well as violinist Stephanie Matthews.

The page also states the two “joined forces to bring together a collective of musicians that would create a sonically and visually powerful statement: WE ARE HERE.”

  25. WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Black Panther” is set to break Saudi Arabia’s 35-year cinema ban.

    http://variety.com/2018/film/global/black-panther-to-break-saudi-arabias-35-year-cinema-ban-1202744703/

Disney and its Middle East distribution partner, Italia Film, will be releasing the Marvel superhero blockbuster April 18 in a new AMC-branded movie theater in Riyadh with a gala premiere, an Italia Film spokesman said.

The “Black Panther” bow will mark the first public screening in the kindgom since movie theaters were banned in the early 1980s, after Saudi Arabia adopted ultraconservative religious standards in 1979. Removal of the ban, announced last December, is part of a drive by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to transform Saudi society.

“Black Panther” will inaugurate the new Saudi era in a luxurious cinema in a building originally intended to be a symphony concert hall. The facility, in Riyadh’s King Abdullah Financial District, has more than 600 leather seats, on orchestra and balcony levels, and marble bathrooms.

AMC Entertainment, which is owned by Chinese conglomerate Dalian Wanda, expects to open up to 40 cinemas in Saudi Arabia within five years and up to 100 theaters in Saudi Arabia by the year 2030.

With a population of 32 million, 70% of whom are under the age of 30, and a relatively affluent citizenry, some analysts expect that Saudi Arabia could eventually produce $1 billion in revenues and be among the top 10 markets for theatrical revenues. AMC and the Development and Investment Entertainment Company, which issued the license for AMC to operate, have said their goal is to achieve approximately a 50% market share of the Saudi Arabian movie theater industry.

Other exhibitors building cinemas in the country include iPic, Empire, Vue, CJ CGV, Cinépolis, and Dubai-based Vox Cinemas and Cinemacity.

  45. It’s Inevitable: ‘Black Panther’ Will Pass $1 Billion At The Worldwide Box Office

After another phenomenal domestic and international weekend that saw Marvel Studio’s Black Panther setting new box office records, the 13-day global cume of $704 million makes it possible to estimate (with a decent degree of likelihood, but obviously not a 100% certainty) what the final minimum and maximum box office figures could be for director Ryan Coogler’s acclaimed blockbuster. And aside from outlier extremes, the calculations seem to confirm what many of us have suspected for days — Black Panther will surpass $1 billion at the global box office.

Let’s take a look at how the domestic, foreign, and worldwide low-end and high-end numbers look.

First, on the lower end of realistic outcomes, Black Panther will add at least an additional $125 million to its current domestic box office. That would bring the domestic cume to approximately $525+/- million. Separately, the low-end realistic additional box office revenue the picture could add in all foreign markets is $180 million, to bring its international total to about $484+/- million. So the total worldwide box office in this lower-end scenario would be $1.009 billion.

Now, since this particular low-end prediction has a buffer of less than $10 million over the $1 billion mark, I’d say that it’s of course possible that some event or unexpected situation in one or more markets over the next several weeks could of course alter enough variables to result in a final global total a few million bucks shy of $1 billion.

A more moderate estimate, but not overly bullish or high-end, would call for an additional $140-150 million domestically, and another $225-235 million internationally. That would result in a worldwide cume of $1.07 billion to $1.09 billion.

Lastly, take a look at the exciting higher-end possibility which, while of course a best-case scenario, is not dependent on any wild or unrealistic turns of events. Domestic high-end would be around $165-175 million in additional box office receipts, while the foreign high-end additional revenue would be about $265-275 million. This gives us a grand global total of $1.13 billion to $1.15 billion as a highest-end realistic estimate.
