    I awakened thinking about The Portraits, having read news of The Michelle being moved to a different spot. Two thoughts: that amazing picture of Parker Curry is a representation of who is going to see The Portraits and the instant sense of community. The photo of her looking captivated was taken by a white guy living in NC who was visiting his mother in Alexandria, VA; he and his mother included that experience as part of the visit home and he was quite taken by seeing that little girl so awed. I included, people struck up conversation and connection while waiting in lines at museums. With all of the free experiences here, D.C. is all about line culture but rarely is it so diverse.

    Second thought was much less kumbaya: the haters are also seeing all that love for the Obamas across spectra so I think the move was more about putting The Michelle in a more safe spot. I imagine the threatening phone calls haven’t abated and having hers on the first floor was deemed too risky. Having it on the third floor would require effort from someone wishing to do harm. I do wonder if it changed the practice of seeing The Michelle before The Barack now that hers is a floor higher but still in the other building.

      I didn’t know that the painting was going to be moved but I did notice it was next to a restroom. There probably is a better spot for it.

      Just found out that the portrait was previously stuck very disrespectfully, in some random corner by an elevator .. and they obviously hadn’t anticipated the crowds and as usual. underestimated her importance, impact and draw – what else is new..

      Between the many complaints and the crowds, and the viral photo of young Parker, the opportunistic and not so impressive or nice Kim Sayet, ordered the move to the 3rd floor…which provides better viewing, but still insidiously ‘contains’ and keeps the historic FLOTUS in ‘her place’..

    My wrist hurt. I might send someone to get me a heat wrap. I had a pain relieving wrap on last night and it mostly smelled like BenGay but didn’t really relieve the pain.

      We both loved it. It was a beautiful looking film. I loved the young girl who plays the lead. I don’t think I’m spoiling when I say that the moment our heroine- Meg- finally finds her father, made me cry.
      Peanut was like ‘ Auntie, are you crying?’, and I had to nod. She just held my hand.
      One reviewer said that the movie was a love letter to Black girls, and I thought that was true. BUt, I think that Ava brought out why girls over decades have related to Meg. She’s not the beautiful, composed, most popular girl.
      Meg is brainy, awkward, with flaws, but brilliant, and we can see the heroine in her before she can feel it herself. I thought Ava did a fabulous job bringing forth Meg into flesh.
