    FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. >> Mass murderer Nikolas Cruz is getting stacks of fan mail and love letters sent to the Broward County jail, along with hundreds of dollars in contributions to his commissary account.

    Teenage girls, women and even older men are writing to the Parkland school shooter and sending photographs — some suggestive — tucked inside cute greeting cards and attached to notebook paper with offers of friendship and encouragement. Groupies also are joining Facebook communities to talk about how to help the killer.

    I’m heartsick over the circumstances that brought these kids to the spotlight, but it brings joy to my heart to see them now that they are here.

    They are truly Barack Obama’s kids. They spent their formative years seeing what a government and a country looks like when it is inclusive and there is a high level of competence. So now they are seeing the complete 180 of that and know it’s not right, so they’re applying what they absorbed over those years to try to course correct.

    The fact that they have the RW and the NRA on the run is a wonderful thing to see

      I was dumbstruck the first time I read that. It hit me like a thunderbolt.
      You know, those of us who were supporters of 44, told critics that 44 was going to move things in ways we couldn’t even begin to understand.
      I had no idea that it would come so soon.

    It’s fascinating to watch the RW/GOP sputter as they try to spin their vile against the Parkland kids. The funny part is that none of the kids is going ‘ oh woe is me.’
    But, they are standing up for themselves. And showing just how disgusting the other side has always been.
    THIS is their standard M.O. This is what they’ve been doing for the past 25-30 years.
    But, they have met their match.

This move to deprive some of his own citizens of representation in the WI legislature wasn’t about the costs involved in holding special elections but all about GOPers maintaining power. Former US AG. Holder is much smarter than Walker. Walker is pissed because Mr. Holder beat the GOP’s *sses in their own state.

    When it comes to the political world’s interest in tech giants, many of the key players in D.C. have been focused heavily on Facebook, especially in the wake of the controversy surrounding Cambridge Analytica. Axios reports today, however, that Donald Trump’s interests are elsewhere.

    Capitol Hill wants Facebook’s blood, but President Trump isn’t interested. Instead, the tech behemoth Trump wants to go after is Amazon, according to five sources who’ve discussed it with him. “He’s obsessed with Amazon,” a source said. “Obsessed.”

    Trump has talked about changing Amazon’s tax treatment because he’s worried about mom-and-pop retailers being put out of business…. His real estate buddies tell him – and he agrees – that Amazon is killing shopping malls and brick-and-mortar retailers.

    The piece added, “The president would love to clip CEO Jeff Bezos’ wings. But he doesn’t have a plan to make that happen.”

    There’s certainly room for a spirited conversation about the online retailer and its influence in the marketplace, but I think New York’s Jon Chait is correct when he argues that for Trump, Amazon is simply “the outlet for his hatred of the Washington Post.”

    In theory, Trump might have developed an economic theory that Amazon is inappropriately benefitting from public policy, and have drawn critical conclusions about the journalism at the Post, and it is merely a coincidence that the same person, Jeff Bezos, owns both businesses. In practice, Trump makes no pretense of obscuring any connection between the two. When he lashes out at the Post’s coverage, he segues seamlessly to Amazon. Trump has done this over and over. […]

    Whatever the merits of his case about Amazon, it has nothing to do with helping mom-and-pop shops and everything to do with his authoritarian desire to control the news media.

      Trump is also very likely jealous of Bezos. Bezos’s overall net worth is @ $130 BILLION, and increasing. Bezos’s wealth makes Trump’s wealth look like exactly what it is: chump change.

      The veiwership for her show are just like her and #45. The characters portrayed are white, flawed,struggling, supposed “working class” who don’t hold out for education and better jobs. They cling to their towns, way of life, and expect any changes to come from outside of themselves.

      Looking for their savior. Donny DOO DOO ain’t it.

    Donald Trump appears to have picked Navy Admiral Ronny Jackson – the White House physician – to oversee the Department of Veterans Affairs in part because the president likes him personally. But the president recently said something else about the doctor that offered an important insight about Trump’s perspective.

    Trump’s positive impression of the military doctor had staying power, with Trump praising Jackson to donors during a fundraiser at Mar-a-Lago in February.

    “He’s like central casting – like a Hollywood star,” Trump said, according to an audio recording of his remarks obtained by CNN.

    In other words, the president has an image in his mind of what someone in Jackson’s job is supposed to look like, and Trump is impressed because the physician matches that image.

    Privatizing the V.A. Will Hurt Veterans

    It seems that these successes within the department have intensified the ambitions of people who want to put V.A. health care in the hands of the private sector. I believe differences in philosophy deserve robust debate, and solutions should be determined based on the merits of the arguments. The advocates within the administration for privatizing V.A. health services, however, reject this approach. They saw me as an obstacle to privatization who had to be removed. That is because I am convinced that privatization is a political issue aimed at rewarding select people and companies with profits, even if it undermines care for veterans.

    Until the past few months, veteran issues were dealt with in a largely bipartisan way. (My 100-0 Senate confirmation was perhaps the best evidence that the V.A. has been the exception to Washington’s political polarization). Unfortunately, the department has become entangled in a brutal power struggle, with some political appointees choosing to promote their agendas instead of what’s best for veterans. These individuals, who seek to privatize veteran health care as an alternative to government-run V.A. care, unfortunately fail to engage in realistic plans regarding who will care for the more than 9 million veterans who rely on the department for life-sustaining care.

    … a California court blocked Trump’s order, allowing DACA recipients to keep applying to the Department of Homeland Security for renewals.

    That protection was welcome for DACA beneficiaries, but the uncertainty of the court order highlighted the original program’s shortcomings.

    Karla Monterroso, CEO of Code2040, an organization that connects black and Hispanic applicants to tech jobs, said some companies in the industry are reluctant to hire DACA recipients.

    “I’ve heard a variety of things,” she said. “Everything from, ‘ICE has threatened to do away with them if they hire DACA students,’ to ‘if a student doesn’t have papers, they are up for penalties should they hire them, and they are unsure of how long a student will have status.’”

    Monterroso said her organization has stopped asking students if they’re DACA beneficiaries for fear of creating a paper trail that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could follow in deportation procedures.

    But in previous years, said Monterroso, roughly 10 percent of the students going through her program were in DACA.

    Monterroso said those recipients have been following the political debate closely, as Congress failed on several occasions to make DACA benefits permanent.

    “At this point in time they are so frazzled about not knowing a date,” Monterroso said. “That is absolutely without a shadow of a doubt traumatizing these students.”

    …”For the same amount of people who are not wanting to take risks, there’s more who intentionally want to hire people on DACA,” said Martínez.

    For example, shortly after Trump ended DACA in September, Starbucks issued a release saying they’d lobby for a legislative replacement and provide legal advice for their undocumented employees.

    The tech industry has been vocal about its support of DACA, but that hasn’t always translated into jobs.

    “Support hasn’t always translated into those companies being willing to put their weight behind Dreamers and hire them,” said Monterroso.

    For some companies, the issue comes down to a time commitment.

    “Sometimes employers want long-term people,” said Barragán. “When we look to hire we often ask people for commitment.”

    And politicians on both sides of the aisle say short-term permits are unrealistic for employees and employers…

    The notarization of the original contract.

    How does a notary sign of on a contract that has a blank space where one of the supposed parties has not signed?

    it defeats the point of notarization and just points out the incompetent representation of both sides.

    This is something that makes you go ‘Hmmmmm’

    Singer and Actress Pearl Bailey was born on this day, March 29, in 1918.

    NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) — The City of Newport News will unveil a tribute to local entertainment icon Pearl Bailey on what would have been her 100th birthday.

    The new mural is being unveiled at the Pearl Bailey Library on 2510 Wickham Avenue at 1 p.m. Thursday. The event is free and open to the public.
