        And they all (especially CNN), seriously need to stop using that racist right-wing gossip hack and former Fox ‘news’ alumni, Kate Andersen Brower as anything of an ‘authority’ or ‘source’ for anything on First Ladies ..

        So she cobbled together a very lame ‘book’ on First Ladies a couple of years ago …which she’s since made 2 more ‘books’ from – based entirely on gleaning stuff you and I see on the internet, a lot of unfounded gossip, skewed perspectives and personal biases etc…

        And suddenly, she’s an ‘authority’..

        She’s as hollow as she’s shallow, racist and dishonest..

        How it would be out of this world to have her as the first woman ‘president’ ..and how her immigrant roots would be highlighted and show just how wonderful and valuable immigrants are to the country..

    Automatic voter registration expands its reach even further

    It was only a matter of time before automatic voter registration reached another state, though I thought it’d take more than a week.

    More than a half million New Jersey residents could soon become New Jersey voters.

    Gov. Phil Murphy signed legislation Tuesday that will automatically register people to vote if they apply for a driver’s license or non-driver ID card in the Garden State.

    New Jersey is the 13th state to have automatic voter registration. The new law could register nearly 600,000 people, according to the Center for American Progress, a progressive research group.

    The news comes just five days after Maryland also adopted AVR. New Jersey and Maryland join (in alphabetical order) Alaska, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Illinois, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, and West Virginia.

    A couple of days ago I was listening to a podcast by a blogger I’ve known for a long time. His podcast was about black men and police. He’s from the Bay Area and interviewed a long time friend of his, also a black men, who has had the usual experiences but also credits a white cop for saving his life. There is an iconic picture associated with this story and it is heartbreaking. Fortunately, this young man’s story has a happy ending and he is doing well.

    Take a very deep breath and look at this picture.

    Espy and Hyde-Smith Running Even In Mississippi

    A new Triumph Campaigns poll in Mississippi finds Mike Espy (D) and Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS) neck and neck in the special election to replace Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS), 33% to 33%. They are followed by Chris McDaniel (R) at 13% and Jason Shelton (D) at 6%.

    The special election will not have party primaries and is likely to go to a runoff.

    In head-to-head matchups, Hyde-Smith leads Espy, 42% to 36%, while Espy leads McDaniel, 43% to 24%.

    State lawmakers in Missouri claim they’ve been threatened with a sharp decrease in donations unless they actively support embattled Gov. Eric Greitens (R), who has been charged with photographing a woman while she was naked and using the image to threaten her with blackmail.

    Greitens has also been accused of assaulting the woman and coercing her into a sexual relationship. He was indicted on felony invasion of privacy charges related to the nude photo back in February.

    “Lots of people, including me, have been threatened that, if we go against the governor, we will never get financial support from any of the major donors in [Missouri],” one unnamed legislator reportedly told local Missouri Scout, a private news service covering state politics. When Missouri Scout asked other lawmakers to weigh in on the claim, many told the news outlet the threats were allegedly “widespread.”

    He is the co-founder of Whose Your Landlord, a web application that rates landlords based on tenant opinions.

    The idea to launch the platform was spurred when Ezeugwu served as the vice president of Temple University’s Student Body in 2012. At the time, students were facing issues with off-campus housing such as black mold, plumbing problems and properties not being cleaned properly. He and his business partner Felix Addison launched their business in 2013.

    “The idea was what if you could review your landlord that way those coming behind you could know what to expect before signing a lease. For the students it made perfect sense,” Ezeugwu said.

    While the platform was initially geared toward millennial college students, its user base has expanded. WYL has received reviews from more than 200 cities around the country, even though its focus is on Philadelphia, New York and Washington, D.C. The platform has received more than 10,000 landlord reviews from those three cities.

    The service allows renters to review their landlord, apartment building or property manager in seven key categories ranging from safety to property conditions. The platform also provides apartment listings, renter resources and curated content about redlining and gentrification.

    “We realize that from an information standpoint that the way that you empower people is by giving them an in-depth look into the history of property of where they are but also giving them more insight about their neighborhood and their communities nowadays,” said Ezeugwu, who is a native of Patterson, N.J.

      She really is amazing.

      I have to say though, I hope she also gets to do a lot of fun things that kids do. I hope she is able to “compartmentalize”. She seems to have taken on a heavy burden, and puts most adults to shame.

    Pointing to nothing in particular, Donald Trump declared this morning, “So many people are seeing the benefits of the Tax Cut Bill. Everyone is talking, really nice to see!”

    In reality, of course, everyone isn’t talking about the Republican tax plan, and there’s nothing especially “nice” about public attitudes on the subject. Perhaps someone should show the president the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

    The new poll found that 27% of respondents thought the law was a good idea, while 36% thought it was a bad idea. Opinion split largely along party lines, but even among Republicans support was far from unanimous: 56% of Republicans thought the law was a good idea.

    “If this is a signature accomplishment Republicans are hoping to run on in November, this is obviously not a good starting point,” said Fred Yang, a Democratic pollster who helped conduct the survey with Republican Bill McInturff.

    Sandy Hook Parents Hit Alex Jones With Defamation Lawsuits

    The parents of two children who died in the Sandy Hook massacre have filed defamation lawsuits against Infowars founder Alex Jones over his false claims that the 2012 school shooting was was staged. Lawyers for the parents say Jones’ conspiracy theories—including the false assertion that the parents of dead children are “crisis actors”—have led to death threats against them. Neil Heslin, the father of a 6-year-old boy killed in the shooting, and Leonard Pozner and Veronique De La Rosa, who also lost their son, filed the suits late Monday, the Huffington Post reports. Each suit is seeking $1 million in damages. “Even after these folks had to experience this trauma, for the next five years they were tormented by Alex Jones with vicious lies about them,” said Mark Bankston, the lawyer handling the cases for the parents. “And these lies were meant to convince his audience that the Sandy Hook parents are frauds and have perpetrated a sinister lie on the American people.” Bankston is also involved in another defamation suit against Jones, representing a man whom he incorrectly identified as the Parkland school shooter.

    Just over a hundred years before Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, Charlotte L. Brown on April 17, 1863 refused to give up her seat on a horse drawn streetcar in San Francisco. Even though she had a ticket and declared she had a right to ride, the conductor ejected her. With her father’s support, she took the case to court.

African Americans had just won the right to testify against whites that same year.[14] The Omnibus Railroad argued that its conductor’s action was justified because racial segregation protected white women and children who might be fearful or ‘repulsed’ by riding in the same car as African Americans. Brown won her case, presided over by Judge Cowles, but the jury only awarded her twenty five dollars. The conductor, Dennison, was convicted in criminal court of assault and battery against Brown.
