    Javier Payne, who was 14 years old at the time of the incident, was pushed through a glass window of “The Hookah Spot” in New York in 2014 and suffered severe injuries.

    The teen and his 13-year-old friend were hand-cuffed for allegedly striking a 39-year-old who wouldn’t give them a cigarette, the Daily News reported.

      The cop involved in this incident was suspended and has resigned. According to ajc.com, he’s blaming the chief of police for his resignation, saying he resigned because he’s unable to get a “fair investigation” under Alpharetta’s Public Safety Chief John Robison. Robison told 11alive that he has “major concerns about the way the incident unfolded.” The GBI has launched an investigation into the matter. James Legg was a thug in a law enforcement uniform.

    The idea of a black person having a white partner led to many questions on Twitter: “Who can speak on the black experience?” “Why not date a black person?” And, my personal favorite, “What if black women didn’t want me growing up?”

    However, it’s the last question that has continued conversations that ultimately result in the angry, black male nerd rearing its ugly head … again.

    Lately, we’ve been living in a twilight zone of the (black) revenge of the nerds. Straight black men have been taking their rage online and speaking about the black girls who did not want them in high school because they were—yes, you’ve guessed it—nerds. And while I can understand the feelings of nerdy black men, of which I consider myself, about being rejected in middle and high school, I also call out inherent entitlement and anti-blackness.

    I’ll just say it: I’m exhausted with the unchecked pretension of some black people who believe they are “different” because they don’t like what is considered acceptable in our community. Congratulations! You’re contrarian.

    Nonetheless, many of these black male nerds understood Glover and even began telling their own stories of black girls who did not want them.

    My high school experience taught me the social caste system of self-segregating based on who people felt they were and with whom they should be associated. Therefore, many times, people dated within similar circles, apparently except nerds. Often, who went on dates in high school was about attractiveness and popularity, which was not necessarily mutually exclusive with being a nerd, a term frequently used for a person with good grades.

    In response to black male nerds sharing their stories, the self-identified black female nerds shared some of their own. Conclusion: Their male counterparts did not want to date them. So, the question becomes: Who, then, were these male nerds attempting to date? Were their hurt feelings a result of thinking they were entitled to date a particular girl? The prettiest girl? The most popular girl? Entitlement.

    To be clear, I know that many nerdy black boys are considered gay, soft or otherwise undesirable, which is also problematic because it’s rooted in homophobia. That’s a problem. But I also recognize that many of these nerdy black boys (now men) use their experiences to be anti-black in why they don’t, refuse to or minimally date black women. Your high school insecurities don’t belong to anyone but you.

    If people want to date outside of their race, they should do so. But people don’t have to denigrate an entire category of black women in their “I haven’t gotten over liking the popular girl in high school” process.

    It wasn’t mandatory then, and it isn’t now, but we cannot pretend that nerdy black boys weren’t rejecting nerdy black girls for the same reason they were being rejected by the popular girls.

    A single, working mother of three is taking on a Florida housing complex after a property manager refused to renew her lease because she hadn’t provided her landlord an ultrasound of the child she was carrying.

    As the Miami Herald reports, Tiesha Davis signed a rental agreement with Sorrento Rental Community in Miramar in September 2017. At the time, Davis was four months’ pregnant, a fact that was clearly visible to assistant property manager Jose Galindo, according to Davis’ lawsuit.

    “During such time Ms. Davis was noticeably pregnant, to the extent that Mr. Galindo insisted that she sit in the front seat of the golf cart when he was driving her through the property,” the complaint reads.

    But Galindo refused to renew Davis’ 12-month lease in January, when Davis was eight months’ pregnant, after finding baby goods in her closet during a routine inspection of the apartment.

    Galindo asked Davis if she was pregnant, then told her that she should have let the property know she was pregnant in her application. According to the suit, Galindo told the 26-year-old that she was required to show him both a letter from her doctor and an ultrasound at the time of her tenancy.

    Mel Reynolds vows to serve jail term and leave country: ‘I’m done with America’

    Former U.S. Rep. Mel Reynolds is headed back to jail, but for a short enough time — four months — that he said hopes to be living in Africa by Christmas.

    “I’m done with America. I’m going to do this, and I’m going home — to Africa. … I’ve given up on America,” Reynolds told reporters after U.S. District Judge Robert Gettleman sentenced him to six months imprisonment for his failure to file income tax returns.

    With credit for two months previously served after he was jailed in 2016 for violating bond conditions, Reynolds will only need to spend an additional four months in custody to complete his sentence.

    Federal prosecutors had sought a sentence of up to 27 months in prison for Reynolds, as suggested under federal sentencing guidelines, largely based on his two prior convictions.

    Even the U.S. Probation Office recommended that Reynolds serve a 10-month sentence to “send a message” to him that “he is not above the law.”

    But Gettleman settled on what he acknowledged in court was a “fairly lenient” sentence that took into account the age of the 66-year-old ex-congressman who now says he lives in a Monee motel.

    Lucky viewers, as well. The 19-year-old Hawke plays Jo with a coltish vibrancy that suits the role, and with an easy confidence that belies her resume: This “Masterpiece” drama is her first screen credit, with a part in the next season of “Stranger Things” following close behind.

    “Little Women” held such appeal for Hawke that she left New York’s Juilliard School for it, a move that runs in the family: Her parents, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, both interrupted their studies when the professional world beckoned.

    “I love novels, and the script was really well-written, because the book is well-written, and I wanted to get to speak those words,” Maya Hawke said in an interview. “I didn’t know if I was going to get to play it again, if ever, so I had to jump on it.”

    The project was a draw for another reason. Jo’s literary passion helped Hawke in her struggle with dyslexia.

    “Her drive and her love of language and storytelling really sparked my interest, and really inspired me to overcome the obstacles that were in my way, which were much more personal and less societal than hers, and follow my dreams and pursue what I love,” Hawke said.

    Lord save the world, actually. President Trump is making rash and risky moves that promise either brilliant success or catastrophic failure. Given that it’s Trump we’re dealing with, I do not like the odds.
    I can only applaud his achievement in securing the release of Kim Dong-chul, Tony Kim and Kim Hak-song, the three Americans who were being held in North Korea on baseless charges — apparently as bargaining chips. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo flew to Pyongyang to bring them home, and Trump was there to meet them when they arrived before dawn Thursday at Joint Base Andrews outside Washington.
